How often are we doing new threads now ?
08-17-2016 , 07:00 PM
I made a new thread so people could vote on this weekend's main and co-main. Looking at the UFC's schedule the next thread will go up early in October to allow voting on UFC 204.

Mystic Nate. He predicts these tings.

Yeah nice bit of foreshadowing by Nate.

Apparently, Nick motioned for Nate to bounce, maybe as an FU to Conor since he showed up late. As juvenile as it all was, the ultimate result is Nate kinda one-upping Conor's whole mental warfare angle. If he simply left, Conor would have stayed on the stage and just talked **** like normal, but getting the whole press conference to shut down and pissing off Conor is a win for Diaz. I'm very amused by all of this.

Stim,

Damn nice spot. That is really funny.

EDIT:

Damn, Sonnen's kid was born prematurely and apparently just died. That's ****ing terrible.

Nate's boxing is really sharp at 26:00.

That press conference was so good for that card but so bad for the sport, UFC better fine them and increase their paycheck at the same time.

I found it interesting in the Embedded that Conor straight away wanted to go back out and take questions, and Dana shut him down immediately.

That press conference was just like the last one. In the stare off Nate got his fist all up near Conor, and then Conor batted it away.

I remember immediately after he went on, I believe it was Ariel's pod, and said that he was cool with it and thought it was Conor trying to get the upper-hand after Nate had it and then Nate thought he gained it back again later somehow, I forget. Said he woulda smacked Conor's hand away too, if it was reversed.

Same thing here: Conor's late and so Nate has to get the upper-hand back with a move of his own.

I think I've been proven right in my main initial hypothetical: Conor's shtick isn't working this go around so he wanted to minimize the time involved with it. Now he's talking press conference and media appearances down when that was his bread and butter to stardom. He's like a politician with his faux talking points.

He wanted to get the upper-hand back.

It's indicative of his mind-frame to think that throwing those bottles while on the stage made him look good, esp in those tight ass clothes. In reality he blew his shot at the mic.

What are the chances Dana even lets them get within 5 feet of each other at the face off after the weigh in?

Hope they don't do something that puts the fight in jeopardy, I have put my bets on and I am looking forward to cracking out the red panties after Conor makes me rich(a few hundred bucks).

+1 RIP, awful news
08-18-2016 , 07:48 AM
i mean yea that stuff is kinda cringe or whatever but i'm not convinced that it's as bad for the sport's image as people make it out to be, and honestly i love it. it's a ****ing FIGHT, idk anybody who doesn't get more excited to see two dudes get in the octagon who legit hate each other, as opposed to a couple milquetoast nobodies praising and respecting each other the whole way leading up to the fight. **** that, it's a fight, there's supposed to be **** talking. **** gets real when people put their pride on the line

I liked nate's early exit. The water bottle throwing was pretty childish but it made me laugh. I also enjoyed that they edited it out of the embedded with out mentioning it.

Conor didn't gain any extra weight for their first fight, and certainly won't have gained any for this one since he attributed part of his loss to his lackadaisical eating habits.

Just watched 117lb women's freestyle wrestling gold medal match. It was pretty great.

On the topic of the poll, interesting that 14/18 people have picked Overeem despite Miocic being the betting favorite.

I think this is finally the one for Reem. He has a a nasty guillotine, superior grappling, is (much) physically stronger, and has better striking credentials. His chin/Miocic's power are the only way he can lose. I think 50/50 seems about right anyway. I'm hoping Reem continues his recent trend of defensive striking with lots of power strikes and some takedowns.

The thing is, at any point Reem might suddenly decline and get KO'd a bunch and retire. It seems inevitable unless he can really retire on top. I'd really like to see him get this title before he fades

Laughed pretty hard when Nate said "he's go pictures of me hanging and punching me in the face Etc" was so funny. Gotta love Nate. This is a really cool fight. The way conor appears to train and the mindset he he trains with is so fun to watch too

Its pretty embarrassing how Conor has zero ability to adapt his schtick after losing to Nate and instead rehashes the same ol weak lines while trying to avoid as much media as possible.
08-18-2016 , 07:07 PM
Ty, stim:

Yep.

I especially liked from Nate:
"Who does that?" (after talking about the pictures)
and
"When he goes to sleep he thinks about what happened last time" (something like that)

Conor is just a robot designed to repeat "Yull do fookin' noothin'" over and over.
08-18-2016 , 09:51 PM
I think robot is a bit extreme, but it is disappointing that he's rolling out re-tooled versions of the old hits.

El D,

Yeah, such a great line by Nate. That kind of placid honest stings way worse than any pre-planned witticism. Best part about it, though, was the Embedded episode showing Conor watching that very answer on his phone, unable to respond because he was late to the conference. That must have sucked.
