Meh, I guess Pearson's record is shoddier than I remember and more than anything the lines closed ranging from -333 to -435. Cowboy being more dangerous reflects in current lines, Pearson was the one more likely to get a SD.

Regardless, the point of the matchups is to test him and gauge him. Not build him up.

Don't think you give his wins over Chandler enough credit. Most people had Chandler 2-0 against the current LW champ. He was ranked in the top 10 and close to #5 than #10. Should have been top 5 if he got the rightful decision against Eddie.

It's certainly a lot more impressive than Poirier/deriush/Chiesa/Diaz

For the Pearson fight yes Will Brooks looked pretty bad, but it was also short notice and his first UFC fight and UFC jitters are real. Tons of guys under perform in their UFC debuts.

We don't give Brooks enough credit for his first win over Chandler?

Will Brooks should be fighting top guys on his way into the UFC just like Alverez did. If he wants to jump down a little in competition and gently adjust to the UFC I don't see a problem with that but most of these guys coming over from Belator are coming for the higher level of competition.
09-30-2016 , 02:54 PM
Even still going 1-0-1 with Chandler and finishing him the 2nd time and being 18-1 is still more impressive than many fighters ranked above him.

Most rankings outside of the UFC have him between #5-8 currently. Fighting guys outside the top 20 is silly come on now.
09-30-2016 , 02:56 PM
These guys left bellator because they ran out of quality opponents and they wanted a chance to be UFC champ. Fighting anyone less than Ross Pearson defeats the purpose unless you just want to get past the UFC jitters.

Conor isn't really comparable because he came from a different organization and didn't had some hype behind him but didn't have a recognizable name yet.
09-30-2016 , 03:04 PM
You guys are talking about Brooks like he's a fan fave. Mainly it's just hardcores who even know him. The UFC has historically tried to expose these guys, not build them up (wrestlers who use it that aren't finishing machines).

The Chandler finish was also bizarre but that's neither here nor there.

Quote:
Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks (17-1 MMA, 9-1 BMMA) has been released from the California-based promotion and is now a free agent. Additionally, heavyweight champ Vitaly Minakov (17-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) has been stripped of his title due to inactivity but will remain under contract with the company.

Bellator President Scott Coker today confirmed the moves with MMAjunkie.

In the case of lightweight champ Brooks, who’s ranked No. 11 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA lightweight rankings, Coker said the promotion has elected to terminate the fighter’s deal and waive all negotiation rights so that “Ill Will” can pursue his free-agency options.

“It was very simple,” Coker told MMAjunkie. “Will Brooks’ contract is ending, and we made a decision not to renew it. We’re going to give him a full release, so we’re not going to be in the Will Brooks business any longer.”
Bellator likes exciting fighters. They could've afforded Brooks on his 50/50 deal.

He's got one finish in 8 fights against guys like: Saad Awaad, Dave Jansen, John Alessio, Alexander Sarnavskiy

John Lineker missed weight (fifth time in UFC).

He missed by half a pound but seriously how do you move up in weight and still miss weight ?
09-30-2016 , 03:13 PM
Stim,

Poirier/deriush/Chiesa/Diaz finishes Saad Awaad, Dave Jansen, John Alessio, Alexander Sarnavskiy how often?

Damn near errrytime imo
09-30-2016 , 03:20 PM
Jesus how does Lineker move up in weight and miss that's ridiculous. Was that his 2nd try? Or does he get another chance?

I already said him not being exciting is one of the reasons he isn't getting the respect he deserves. I'm aware of that. Doesn't change the fact that any reasonable rankings have him in the top 10 and him getting guys outside the top 20/30 is silly.

And I checked Wiki and it says nothing about Oliveria being a replacement.
09-30-2016 , 03:21 PM
Also, if Brooks passes the tests ftmp and is 3-1 or 4-2 whatev. Then he becomes the guy to try to expose other guys, especially rising strikers.

He will have to go on a ridiculous run to get a title shot. If he stays in his lane and doesn't get froggy with money demands then he can have a very long UFC career.

Still makes him gatekeeper to the stars as his likely ceiling imo.

So then it's even more clear they're testing him against a monster. One who hung with The Real Cowboy for a bit and was winning on the feet.

I think Oliveria would be top 20-30 lw, Santos was 15 at ww as a comparison. Cowboy just isn't ranked at lw right now but ww.

Guess he's also not fighting at lw tomorrow.

ETA: Lol didn't realize none of his fights were at lw in the UFC except one.

You keep reiterating the point we already know. My very first post on the subject was that he was being treated like this because he's boring and so the UFC doesn't like him that much.

I/we just don't support the clown act that's UFC's current matching making and don't think it's fair/just. They should at the very least have him fighting top 15 guys.
09-30-2016 , 03:51 PM
Alright but when I see a post that says, "If he wants to jump down a little in competition and gently adjust to the UFC I don't see a problem with that" it sure doesn't read that way.

And I also was countering your actual appraisal of him when it seems like you think he's clearly better than those guys you listed (I know in a diff context) when finishing ability is an indicator of actual skill. I don't see why he's automatically better than a number of other guys who have previously been exposed a little, the reason you give is that he beat Chandler twice - which I countered. Then the default is to others' opinions.

It seems like I'm not saying what you already know but I'll drop it as agree to disagree and we can revisit after a few fights.

Good chance LIneker is fighting for his job right?

Idk if he's fighting for his job . Think he is on a 5 fight winning streak
09-30-2016 , 04:31 PM
missing weight 5 times is a UFC record I think. But it was only half a pound so hopefully not. But they cut Anthony Johnson after he lost and had missed his 3rd cut.

Apparently UFC fighter Josh Samman is in the hospital in critical condition and unresponsive. Reporters being secretive about why and saying its not their place, coupled with his history kinda points to drug overdose. Seems like a decent guy hope he pulls through. Dudes been through a lot.

Also notable he was with a local mma announcer that died.

Alexander Gustafsson out vs Lil nog due to injury., Ryan Bader in.

Lina Länsberg wants 20% of cyborgs purse because cyborg weighed in at 141,45.

The only other case I can remember is Rumble who missed by 11 pounds after moving up to middleweight. Rumble somehow looked big at every weight class he fought at though, don't think Lineker will if he is forced to featherweight.

Is it possible that tonight's card is the worst card the UFC have put on to date?
10-01-2016 , 06:13 AM
Isn't Brandon Moreno the TUF contestant who won that epic fight in episode 1 of this season?

So I guess he doesn't win the show then?
10-01-2016 , 06:19 AM
Let's say Alvarez gets injured 4 weeks out from 205. Khabib and Johnson are on the same card, RDA and Ferguson are fighting the week before. What's the play from the UFC and from Conor?
