I found Otto's tacos to be extremely overrated when I went there. Supposedly they're good but I'm not seeing it.

I love you.

The biggest benefit with fast food restaurants is that they are quick and generally convenient. You shouldn't have to go out of the way to get it. In NYC, you would likely have a min 20 minute transit to the chick-fil-a, which will have incredible lines because of its overblown name. You could find a better place if you are willing to go out of the way for food.

I have always noticed that fast food (especially in the city ) is never as good as in the burbs. , the nut low Boston market ,Wendy's ,taco bell are in the city imo. Too many better hole in the walls in my area to choose fast food (except for the occasional Popeye on walker

Otto's tacos are fine. I didn't really know they were overrated, there's other taco places all over the East Village that are clearly as good.

Pick a CITIx60 guides to New York City from the museum shop at the Guggenheim.

Then go out and explore the local creatives recommendations.

NYC Sushi fans,

Anyone been to Shuko?

El D,

I have not, heard good things.

But I am going to Masa in exactly 2 weeks.

You tried it yet?

Naj

Naj,

Yes, went last month. It was great. Got the kaiseki menu with a truffle supplement. Passed on the other supplements - Wagyu and I think caviar.

Glad to hear it! Not the omakase?

I will try to pass on the Wagyu since I doubt I'll have room, but I don't know if I have the willpower.

Anyway, the Omakase was spectacular. I did pass on the Wagyu, just didn't have the room. I dislike sea urchin and it was phenomenal at Masa. Some of the dishes/pieces were just...perfection. No other explanation.

Pretty crazy to see a two-star drop. Can't happen often.

Naj,

Nice.

A little miscommunication there - I was referring to Shuko as the place where I went and had the kaiseki menu (vs sushi only omakase).

Check it out and give us a review vs Masa - I need to pick a couple places for my next NYC visit.

Had the omakase at Ichimura at Brushstroke and it was probably the best meal of my life. It is in a very intimate setting that seats 10 people at a time. I think it's the only 2* Michelin sushi restaurant in NYC. Every piece was perfection and the experience was unforgettable. Only thing I like more about my other NYC favorite (Gari) is you are able to request extra pieces after he's done. Here the sushi course featured more pieces, but you couldn't double back on your order.

My guess is that this is a combination of actual deterioration at Per Se and a restaurant critic looking to make a big splash. That said, I haven't been to Per Se in a decade so I can't really say what it's like now.

I was saying that as well. He is newish to the times and needed to make a statement and picked a low hanging fruit.

Anyone partaking in NYC restaurant week? Some great restaurants on the list, but always tricky to find decent menus and open reservations. 350 restaurants is a lot to sift through. So far I've picked:
Nougatine at Jean-Georges
David Burke Kitchen
Brasserie 8 1/2
DBGB Kitchen and Bar
The Back Room at One57

haven't eaten there, but he seems to make some good points.

for example, advertising the price as "service included" but still having a gratuity line on the bill is shady. the danny meyer restaurants (the modern, gramercy tavern, etc.) that have switched to no tipping really mean no tipping.

I tend to avoid restaurant week. Very limited menus, and I've had one too many experiences where you order and the waiter says "soup or salad with your entree", you choose, then realize it was a $15 add-on when the bill arrives.

I also usually avoid restaurant week. I have gone to some that are good (Smith and wollenski come to mind ) , if you are going to do it. Week day , off hours is your best bet.
