hey all,

i'm looking for a place to have a beer + have lunch + watch euro somewhere in the area of columbia univ (broadway & W 116th) with a friend or two. preferably big TVs that will have volume (sports bar or otherwise). any recommendations? will be traveling by foot, so would have to be within 1-2 mile radius.

thanks!

I've never stopped in, but this place on Amsterdam & 120th seems to be a neighborhood hangout for football fans at CU:

For a rowdier atmosphere, there is a big sportsbar called the Village Pourhouse am Amsterdam around 108th st.

Went to Whitehall in the village last night for dinner. Service wasn't perfect but their drinks are absolutely phenomenal.

Urgent help guys

I'm looking to go on a camping trip with some friends but I'm having a tough time planning it without a car. Has anyone been on a vacation around NYC?

What do you mean on a vacation? Are you looking for camping spots? How far out of the city do you want to travel?

Yeah a camping spot is what I'm looking for. If they have a cabin where we could stay that would be perfect but we can tent out as well of necessary. We're all around manhattan so the closer the better. The main problem is that we don't have a car..

If I remember correctly, there's a place near Beacon where they pick you up at the train station and provide all the gear. I'll see if I can find it. It's about an hour on the Metro North out of Grand Central.

yeah there is. i live in the area. there's a guy who comes and picks people up from beacon train station in a converted short bus - takes them hiking or drops them at motels. forget the name. but there are some great hikes in this area.

also you can take the harlem line a little further up and go to taconic state park, they have cabins there i think. it should be accessible by train + taxi from dover plains or wassaic or one of those stops.

We're about ten people total and looking to "camp" as in cooking marshmallows, horseback riding, kayaking, barbecuing etc. which of the two are better options? It seems like the first one is for hiking mostly? I'm trying to find options around manhattan online but many of them at hours away.

This is it - I have never been here (own a car and grew up in the area), but it sounds like what you're looking for:

I know a lot of people also take the train to Cold Spring, walk for about a half mile up Rte. 9/9A (can't remember which), and hike up Breakneck Ridge. It's a great hike where you'll definitely need to use your hands. I don't know of any campgrounds, but I'm sure there are places to hike to for camping since it's connected to miles of trails.

Looking for a good meal, maximum 100$/person (without tips/drinks). Thinking about either Ai fiore or Public, any thoughts on those or other places are welcomed.

Forgot to mention that GF is allergic to seafood/fish so seafood restaurants are of the table unfortunately, otherwise open to all kind of restaurants

Public is a cool place, nice atmosphere and people watching etc., but the food (a few dishes notwithstanding) is nothing special. If you're not picky about food and just want a cool nyc restaurant to go to, I'd recommend it. If you're more of a foodie, I'd go for something else. haven't been to AF

You are like in the safest area to walk in the whole country. I know shake shack ka closed , I believe they opened a 5 napkin by there , minetta is probably closed too. If you are asking if 21st and park is safe , I won't even mention Brooklyn places. Settle for blue 9 burger on 3rd ave , they might be open still.

Walk over to koreatown , 32nd between 5th and 6th. Plenty of open spots there. Not burgers though.

I went to ABC Kitchen last month - excellent food and will come in well under budget. Highly recommended!

My favorite restaurant in the city that isn't one of the three star Michelin's. I actually ate there twice during the soft open and had no trouble with reservations, now it is nearly impossible. If you want to try it I would recommend walking in around 6 PM on a Friday or Saturday and sitting at the bar. You can order the full menu and I have never had to wait for a party of two doing it that way.
