There is one on the westside too, 78th sounds right. So not that close after all, I kinda assume everything uptown is walking distance for some reason. Good sushi though

Also Columbus and 78th. And, according to their website, 46th and 9th, which I hadn't known about even when I lived 3 blocks from there.

When I lived on the UWS favorites included Nice Matin, Five Napkin Burger (Nice Matin spinoff), Celeste, Barney Greengrass, Cafe con Leche (for cheap Cuban delivery), Cafe Ronda, and Salumeria Rosi. It's worth doing a little advance menupages/yelp/chowhound/etc research as there are literally hundreds of mediocre places in the neighborhood that somehow manage to limp on from year to year.

Is this hotel in a safe area?

My brother works for Choice Hotels so we are getting two rooms here for super cheap next Friday and Saturday nights. Appreciate any thoughts!

Yes, that's in an okay area.

okay = safe, but not necessarily convenient -- unless you're in town for a couple Mets games or a conference at LGA or to hang out in Queens. If you're planning on being in Manhattan, plan to take around an hour's worth of public transit in each direction.

I would not recommend staying there unless you plan on attending US Open. I stayed there because I wanted to see a mets game/US open.

As Wyman said you'll have to take an hour commute into Manhattan from there via the 7 train (a 10 minute walk) There is literally nothing around that hotel within walking distance besides the Queens chinatown.

Seems like a bit of an exaggeration... I don't mind this at all, the rooms are almost free.

thanks for the input though I was more concerned with saftey haha.

That's your prerogative. As long as you know what you're getting into. I'd guess that trip you linked takes at least 50 minutes on average. Keep in mind that they are starting you walking when it's optimal so you time the train right, and also keep in mind that they are optimizing your subway route based on the train "schedule," which you'll never be able to do in real time (and they assume the train stays on schedule, lol).

But whatever, you have an idea of how long it'll take you. Enjoy the city.

Uhhh definitely not an exaggeration, Flushing is pretty far out in Queens dude. His estimation was based on you only taking having to take the 7 to your destination; factor in transfers and your commute time will easily be an hour+.

separate note: I went to Chamber Magic on Friday... I know its already highly recommended but I suggest if you guys are in town go. Its only 1.5 hours (we went to the 9pm show) which left us plenty of time before and after to do other things.

Anyone know of any good basketball courts in Manhattan with good 3 on 3 games? Nothing too crazy with ridiculously good players. Basically looking for games where the level of competition is around people who played on their high school varsity teams. I'm seemingly unable to find good games anymore, especially in the summer.

Virtually any. Contra-wise, feel free to define 'moderately priced sushi' and 'near'

If it hasn't been mentioned before, drinks at the Four Seasons. Some serious eye candy comes in there, and the drinks are awesome.

Also, Tao is on the other side of the block for a different scene.

Most of the eye candy is working the room but is a good scene for midtown and not a bad weeknight spot.

Is that the courts by the school and they only have half courts side by side?
