Haven't been to Per Se since the chef change, but I can't imagine its ever the wrong answer. Gramercy and Le Bernardin are obv always good, Kyo Ya and Sugiyama both have awesome top end tasting menus (never been to Masa). I'm a fan of Bouley as far as the high end french places go but that could be cause I live in Tribeca and view midtown as a trek. A couple chef friends of mine really like EMP but can't say I've ever been.

Loved Per Se if money is no object but for high end to value ratio prefer La Bernadin or Jean Georges.

Blue Hill is pretty phenomenal as well. Another one I really liked recently (and a GF will love) is ABC Kitchen which is Jean Georges new local/sustainable restaurant. Incredible space and phenomenal food and works great for my GF who is a veggie lover.

abc kitchen is definitely good, but it's pretty simple and i don't think i would ever go there as my "one meal in the city."

Agreed. I didn't necessarily mean it in response to that question but more of throwing out a newer restaurant I really like.

Momofuku.....mmmmm, I can't wait to go tomorrow.

Also, side note, I'll be in town for 2 nights if anyone wants to get drunk.

Jean Georges restaurants are garbage. Don't waste your money there. I interned at mercer kitchen and worked at the mark and abc kitchen, all of which are jokes. If you want real food that's cooked with purpose and care, go with le bernardin or a dynex restaurant.

Maybe you are right, but realize that Le Bernadin is in a much different price range than any of the other restaurants you just listed.

Also, what is a dynex restaurant?

Assume you went to Ko. Interested in hearing about the meal. Want to go myself but since GF is vegetarian, need another excuse to have a buddy come.

everyone should check out Emporio on Mott and Prince in little italy. great brick oven pizza, great pasta, a boneless whole fish (yea i know, wtf?) and nutella-ricotta calzone for desert. neat decor, decent service, fun area and inexpensive. pretty fun for a date situation and i could eat 5 of those nutella calzones a day, omg.

If you want Chinese, Shun Lee is good.

my ideal choice would be something in the "upscale comfort food" category, but i have no clue about anything in nyc. any help?

Does anyone know anything about coca cola business cards? I woke up the other morning with one in my pocket, and no recollection of how it got there/where I received it. I called the number and it is most certainly NOT a coca cola distributor, but I didn't want to be like "I got your card but I don't remember what you told me it was for" and have a potentially useful hookup write me off.

If Midtown, I think Bar Americain fits pretty well. It's a Bobby Flay restaurant.

my bad guys. i know very little about manhattan, oddly, so was just told to find someplace "on manhattan" for dinner. we're doing dinner for 7 at Apiary, which i've heard some good things about.

tonight, going to milk and honey for drinks. pretty excited.

i think apiary is a v solid choice given your description, havent been in over a year though.

just going off memory the standouts were the rabbit pappardelle, roast chicken (although this mightve been due to the sides), sweetbreads and cold corn soup all of which seem to be on the menu still. the sangria used to be consistently solid if you dont feel like springing for wine, although the list is much more accessible than veritas.

Hey,

I have a room available right now until the 20th October in the heart of the East village on the corner of 7th street 2nd avenue, close to NYU, union square and a billion bars. Trains within 5 minute walk: 6, N, R, F, L. I'm sure people here can vouch for the location, i've been living there for 9 months and love it. I have to go back home for a month to organise a working visa.

3 bedroom with 2 aussies (26 and 28) one of which is away until the 2nd of october and the other is a consultant and will be in a different state during the week so the place will basically be empty.

The room itself is small just a queen size bed (bed is raised so you can fit your bags underneath) and table + a/c, with a 3 drawer dresser just outside the room, but the lounge room and kitchen are huge with 52' TV + cable (showtime + hbo) + ps3. Roommates are 420 friendly.

Total cost is $1,300 for the month including utilties, pictures available (pm me) want to rent asap! All you need is a toothbrush, everything else is included. Roommate is available to show room any night this week (i am currently in canada because the US government sucks)

Didn't read this whole thread, but I went to NYU and have a few favorite East Village spots.
Caracas- 7'th st and 1st Ave is a great arepa spot. Best meal you'll find under $10.
Rue B- Ave B and 12'th st has a great 2 for 1 happy hour with really intersting drinks.
