crowd is more like 18-25, and 20 dollars should get anyone with a bad fake in or no fake at all.

Kind of a random question, but does anyone no any reasonably tall buildings that are free to go to the top/roof of or have an observation deck.

I know about top of the rock and the empire state building but was wondering if their where any other places to get great views of the city for free, even like sketch abandoned buildings or anything like that(been to 5 points).

Thanks

you could try that jogging path by the Brooklyn Bridge. You won't be on top of a building but you'll have a great view.

Best Bahn Mi I've ever had, the shrimp roles are amazing too. Stop by, grab a cheap sandwich and walk over to madison sq park and enjoy.

So what's my play for eating at the top notch restaurants (such as PL) when I'm going to NYC by myself for 4 days. In most places I'd just grab a seat at the bar if I was dining alone... will that work at some place like PL?

Cause I'm going to NYC alone for 4 days to get shopping done? Most people I know can't just drop what they are doing for 4 days in the middle of the week to hang out with me on my trip I booked 2 weeks before leaving. I imagine this isn't an uncommon problem for young poker players. Most 25 year-olds are either kind of busto or working their ass off. Neither is very conducive to the scenario described.

Edit: I am meeting up with a few friends in NYC for drinks but they are definitely more of the busto category so going to a super expensive dinner isn't going to fly with them.

not at the highest end places, no

just kind of a case by case basis if they serve a full menu at the bar. I'm not sure where the line stops where "eating at the bar" isn't possible, my guess is that places with like 1 Michelin star it's sometimes possible, sometimes not.

places like Gotham Bar and Grill and Spotted Pig look sort of made for it, while others places won't be

then there are places like a'telier du rubochon where countertop service is a specialty, but thats not really "the bar"

Son of bitch, I really wanted to go to some of the multiple star places. Ugh, I could pay for friends to go but something about that doesn't sit right with me. Maybe next time.

I mean, I dunno you can call and ask but my guess is "no" but
been wrong before

there are only like 9 multiple star places, shouldn't be hard to figure out

You can eat at the bar at many of the city's best restaurants, including Daniel, Babbo, Jean-Georges, Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Gotham Bar & Grill, Del Posto (the bar area there is called the Enoteca), and at the newest spot to beat the system, Terrance Brennan's revamped and reworked Picholine.

I had dinner at Gramercy Tavern on Monday; both the service and the food were excellent.

What are the clubs in NY with a strict door policy and long lines (a chance to be rejected at the door)?
Not asking for myself obviously .

Some of the toughest places currently to get into are 1 Oak, Greenhouse and Goldbar. I know there are a few others and it definitely depends on which nights are "hot" but I am not nearly plugged in enough to have any idea of what that was.

1oak and greenhouse have gone downhill a bit, but i agree they're still tough to get into. if you want to include smaller lounges, include beatrice inn, eldridge, PDT, bungalow 8, milk&honey.

I recommend Nicky's Vietnamese instead. I have had both and usually get the chicken or pork sandwiches but regardless I think Nicky's is the best.

Weird bump but I got linked here through a topic in travel and basically just read the whole thing, makes me wanna get back to NYC.

Anyways, if you're bored in the summer and wanna catch some sun, go to the Empire Hotel in Manhattan, grab a drink at the bar at the roof pool and just chill out and stare at gratuitously/try to hit on hot girls. It's not really allowed so just change in a middle floor bathroom and head up. Pretty fun if nothings going on/cool spot.

Can't speak about 1 Oak, but Greenhouse and Golbar are both really dope spots, if you don't mind putting up with bottles and models and snobby people.

If you can roll with a decent sized group of friends, they are both great nightspots.

Didn't read the whole thread, but I just got back and have some suggestions.

I stayed at empire hotel and it was really nice. A bit pricey but good location and pretty sweet bar/lounge.

Also a MUST is the comedy cellar by NYU. A friend recommended it and it was well worth the price. Awesome.

So I've decided my plan is to live in nyc this summer and grind there instead of where i go to school. my budget for rent will be like 1k-2k per month. assuming 1-2 roomates, how nice of a place could i get if everyone chips in equal. i'd want to live somewhere around tribeca or soho (any other recomendations? and im not 'cool' enough for williamsburg...) Do they rent furnished apartments for just like 4 months? Thanks. I've done a little looking on craigslist but its always nice to have people who know what theyre talking about chime in.
