Been living in NY 5 years now and have been to all 3. IMO Supper is the best spot and if you want a dish recommendation, the 1/2 roast chicken entree on the dinner menu is one of the best things I've ever eaten (especially at that price - $25)

A couple miles is a really big area - I'm guessing Meatpacking all the way up into the Upper West Side, and almost the entire width of the island.

The immediate area surrounding MSG is not great for food & drink, aside from pub-type establishments. Ginger Man on 36th and 5th is good for craft beer, Keens is one of the best steakhouses in the city and a few blocks away from the garden, and although I haven't been yet, apparently there are some good food choices in Hudson Yards (The Tavern by WS just received a good review by NY Magazine).

Agree with other poster that it gets much better if you venture below 23rd on the West Side (& Gramercy), and you could also hit a ton of good spots on 9th ave between 42nd and the mid-50s.

Oh, I most certainly will venture out if need be.

Thanks, all!

Be sure to give us a trip report with pics if you go (or wherever you end up going)

I have been to Lil Frankies and Supper more than 25 times each. I've probably been to Franks 10 times. All three are very solid neighborhood places. There is better Italian food in the EV (Lavagna, Hearth), but it is more expensive.

Walking from MSG to Lil Frankies is a hike.

EV = East Village?

good to know, are you referring to this Hearth?
