tommy,

i'm not saying don't use something that's effectively an extra fitted sheet. i'm saying don't use something that's padded.

Just bought a Tempur-pedic Celebrity. It is getting delivered tomorrow. Going to be sick. Obv got 2 pillows and delivery thrown in.

Also, I recommend everyone go and try them out in a store near you. You can't avoid sales tax with a Tempur-pedic and the pricing is fixed and a store will give you free pillows + next day delivery. Also, I almost ordered the Classic online until I went to the store and realized the Celebrity is much more what I'm looking for in a bed. Sure I talked myself into an extra $2k, but for a bed that will last 20 years it is worth it.

What do people think about Tempurpedic Combi mattresses?

My bed has unusual dimensions, they can make a custom sized Combi for it, but not a Celebrity or Deluxe. I have tested the Combis, found them comfortable, but hot as hell, which worried me a lot, since i live in a country with a rather warm climate (Greece).

Anyone else has any experience with them and willing to share?

Looked at some tempurpedics today that were amazingly comfy. I forget the two styles I like but they were listed at 4700 and 3500. Before I could even talk prices the guy offered me 3500 and 2500 with free delivery and set up. I'm going back soon and probably going to ask for no tax and some pillows included. Before I go I was wondering if anyone had more input on how sex is on the tempurpedics?

Ended up going with the celebrity which is going to be delivered to my place the day after I get back from WSOP. Can't wait to try it out since it was by far the most comfy in the store.
I ended up paying 3700 Canadian including taxes with delivery, take away and a top sheet which seems like a pretty sweet deal.

No first hand info but I did have a friend get rid of his for this reason. He said it was "like ****ing in quicksand."

Yeah I decided to go with that one. I really like the minimalistic look of it. It's call "zurich". You can just google "zurich bed" and get results from various stores. It ranges from $800-1000ish. The whole set is quite a bit more depending on how many pieces you get.

The like the top one more, but mine is pretty similar and you're definitely going to nail one of your shins rounding the corner of the bed one night.

this is the exact reason i think i'm never doing another platform bed. between the damn thing and the similarly shin-destroying coffee table i've got, i've developed scars on my shins about 12" off the ground. while i love the aesthetic, i just don't think i can deal with it.

I've always slept on a box-spring/mattress combo, never on a platform bed...what are the upsides?

afaik, almost entirely aesthetic. if there's anything else at all it's probably that you don't have to pay for a boxspring?

Went to Haverty's today an the guy there told me Tempur-pedic's are actually better on platform bed's, don't remember the reason, or how much truth there was to it.

I ended up actually getting a different frame, mostly for the shin banging reasons people mentioned above. If you're a broke ass or a nit and in the market for a queen bed I recommend going to the youth section of the furniture store. They're usually half the price of the others in the store and are the exact same thing. Most of them look like kids beds but there are quite a few that look great. One of the main reasons I chose a different bed was because the one I got came up to the back of my knee when it had boxspring + mattress on it. I'm 6'4" so it's hard to find a bed that's the perfect height for me. The platform bed would have been awkward cause I would have to climb out of it every morning.

I laid on a bunch of different tempur-pedics today and I have to say the celebrity and the allure felt the best, also the most expensive. I also laid on a bunch of sealy posture-pedics, they felt almost identical to the tempur-pedics. Salesman told me it only had a 10 year warranty compared to tempurs 20 year, although by then there will be newer mattress technology so I don't see myself keeping it longer than that. Maybe not as high quality, but I couldn't feel the difference, especially not enough to justify paying twice as much or more. In the end I ended up getting a really nice Stearns and Foster on clearance, paid ~$1200, normally goes for ~$2400. I couldn't feel too much of a difference between all 3 of the brands, but I didn't lay on any of them for longer than 10 minutes, so keep that in mind. My opinions could be completely different had I spent a full night on each of them.

As for bedding, I'll probably end up getting the set from macy's that TeeJay linked, I love the way it looks and is over 300 thread count. I've heard that you can't feel much (if any) of a difference once thread counts are over 300. Anyone know this to be true?

i dont think the type of bed really matters for the memory foam mattresses. that said i use a cheapy ikea platform frame and i am enjoying the non-expensive brand mattress. prob been about six months since i got mine.

I guess I'll have to do some "reserch" when I get back from Vegas. There is a 60 day return policy so hopefully it works out but if not w/e.

I bought the Tempurpedic Combi 25cm (a model that's not available in the US i think) and so far i have found it to be very meh, not a bad night's sleep, but not something special either. Made me really wonder what the fuss was all about. What i cannot recommend enough is their pillows, i got a Symphony one, it's just perfect.

Just upgraded from a really cheap, crappy double to a much more comfortable Therapedic king (baby steps -- I'm still in grad school). For 2 of us, having a king is just so much nicer, and the mattress is pretty comfortable; I wake up refreshed, which I didn't used to.

This thing is massive, though, and it really needs furniture so the room doesn't look ridiculous. Currently, we have a little metal frame, but I'm looking for something higher (so we can store off-season clothes under the bed, say) with a headboard and hopefully a footboard.

Haven't seen too many suggestions for this ITT (other than the platform/box spring debate -- we already have box springs under there). Not looking to break the bank, but we did not pay much for the mattress either ($50 -- with box springs and frame, all in very good condition -- from a friend who's had the bed 3 years and was moving out of the country), so we can afford a little extra here for the right thing.

Thoughts?

Update I had trouble sleeping on the Tempurepedic and realized a King would fit in my room. I decided to take advantage of the sleep Guarentee and exchanged it for a Simmons Heavenly the same mattress the Westins use in their Heavenly bed. I also went back to a king.

I wasnt sure if they would allow me to exchange a queen for a King and is why i did it. The guy said it takes 30 days to get used to it. I did find I was getting to like the Tempurpedic after 10 days.

I love my Simmons though

The complaint about the smell on the tempurepedics I found it dissapeared after a couple days

Just bought the Tempur-pedic grand bed. After one night on it I can safely say I'll never go back to a coil mattress ever again.

This thread has kind of died off, did anyone ever figure out the best types of sheets to buy? I started to look into sheets and it seems like you can spew a lot of money on them. Some of the higher end brands like sferra can run $300+ just for a queen sized 'flat' sheet. So the entire set (flat sheet, fitted sheet, pillowcases) would run you something in the range of $600-900. Pretty pricey if you're gonna have two sets of those so that one can be in the wash while the other is on the bed.

Anyone have any good advice on sheets?
