i need advice on sheets and blanket. i really am looking to get the best possible thing i can find, which is pretty rare for me so i want to make sure i get it right.

can someone recommend me a type of sheet/blanket/comforter/anything? ideally i could order it online but it'd be nice to check it out in person first, at least for the blanket.

thanks,
taylor

got the same bed (minus adjust) two weeks ago. love it. best bed i have ever owned.

when shopping for a mattress how low is too low of a price to start negotiations at?

I'm looking for a queen and will probably get a temperpedic or similar memory foam mattress. If its say $1350 sticker price do I start at $900, 1k, 1100?

I have a Beautyrest and the exact same thing has happened to me. And I do have a lot of sexy time and usually sleep with a GF right next to me. IMO the viscofoam (tempur) feels really weird for sex or cuddling, but I guess if you're a balla like GP you could get a separate sex bed and sleep bed.

I was pissed that my Beautyrest was drooping at 4 years old, so I went mattress shopping a while ago, and one of the mattress guys was like "what bed do you have now?" and I told them about it and they were like "oh, I'm surprised it's drooping, that's better than anything we have"

I would never get a pillowtop that's built in. They feel great at first but pillowtops wear our really fast and get dents or lumps. Better to just get a regular mattress and if you want it get a viscofoam topper.

Also of all the beds I tried, the latex felt best and is supposed to be really durable.

cbloom, dents or lumps are caused by the cotton most manufacturers use as fill between the foam layers. You'll always have some body impressions ona mattress unless you get a firm one but who wants to sleep on a board?

According to Leggett & Platt, who makes almost every innerspring for mattress companies, the Beauty Rest is considered the weakest in the market.

Snipe, the reason most matts. sag in the middle - causing a hammock effect which leads to lower back pains - is because 60% of everyone's weight is between the shoulders and hips. Guess where that part of the body lies in the mattress?

And most mattresses don't strengthen the middle section (except for the Serta Perfect Sleeper), as they are designed to transfer weight from side to side ( look at the helical supprot wires in the store cut out).

Tempurpedic has a minimum allowed price and all dealers will have the same price. Some may offer a different box spring to save you a little money, but it usually voids the warrant from Tempurpedic.

If you're looking at different memory foam matts be sure to ask the sales person what density level it is. The best is 5.5 lb.s per cubic foot ( or 5.3, I can't remember). That's what Tempurpedic uses. You can find cheaper beds like the Sealy Tru Form or even from Restonic but you won't be getting the same thing as the Tempur.

I'm also looking for sheets, something high quality but if there's not a huge difference between some that are $200 and some that are $1k obviously I'd buy the $200 ones. Not really sure where to look, help me!

Awhile back I did a ton of research into sheets. Ended up going with the best sheets they had at overstock.com. I know it's hard to believe, but I got amazing sheets at a ridiculous price.

Also I'd note that girls are more likely to notice your sheets than your mattress, unless you get a Tempurpedic (or similar). Girls loved those sheets.

I can't possibly agree more. When I was in college, my girlfriend at the time bought this set of Victorias Secret Satin sheets. They were hella comfortable, so when we broke up I kept using them. Every girl who ever sat/felt my bed would instantly compliment them. It was pretty cool actually.

The higher the thread count the better feel, quality and durability they'll be.

If you go somewhere and they have swatches to feel, rub your hand on the 250 thread count one and then do it to the 800 thread count one. After doing this the 250 will feel like sandpaper. And yeah, women are always impressed when you have kick ass sheets.

Can satin sheets be machine washed? Also, do they get sweaty?

I've been sleeping on my new Mattress for a week now. A reminder, I bought a Simmons World Class Pillowtop, the one with latex.

The bed is absolutely wonderful to lay in. It's very soft, and very comfortable. I do feel like I sink into it a little bit, but I'm a big guy and I don't see anyway around that.

I seem to be sleeping better already though. I seem to be waking up earlier, but not being tired. Which I guess is a good thing. If this continues, it's definitely one of the better purchases I've made with poker monies.

Thoughts on how important the actual bed is as opposed to the mattress?

Unless theres something I'm missing the bed is 100% ornamental. I've just been using the cheapo frame on wheels that came with my mattress/boxspring for a year now and its been fine. I'll be getting an actual bed soon but solely because the gf and I want to make our apartment look and feel more like a home, I expect no changes in comfort.

Actually those metal mattress frames work really well.

A lot of the prettier wood ones are ****ty. I got one and found out later that it rocks and squeaks a lot when you do the nasty. I recommend taking your GF shopping with you and do some vigorous dry humping on the bed frame to test it out.

anyone have a take on tempurpedic's pillows?

i had them send me a classicpillow recently, have slept on it the past couple of nights, and am still trying to decide if i like it.

my initial instinct was that it was too thick and stiff to be comfortable. that said, maybe i'm just used to flimsly pillows that are bad for my neck.

Until I moved to Argentina a few months ago, I had a Tempupedic pillow. It was fantastic. It was really difficult at first. If, at the time, I hadn't considered $100 to be a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a pillow, I probably would have abandoned it. But after a year, I got used to it. I need to buy one down here.

the temp. celebrity bed has been GREAT the past 3 nights. using the temp. pillows too, just amazing. i've only been getting 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night but when i wake up i feel fully rested.

A+ purchase, now i just need a good comforter....anyone?

In my experience, marrying a woman who is good at quilting and other such things has been key.

Serious answer: Not sure on store bought stuff, sorry (My wife really did make ours). If you're willing to spend serious cash, looking into a nice hand-quilted comforter might not be a bad idea, though.

Is there much variability in comforters? I tend to live in warm climes, so comforters have never been an issue for me. I think I'd probably choose solely on aesthetics, but it could be different in Chicago.
