With Charter, I don't know if this is exclusive, but I've had d/l speeds up to 4mb and steady at 3mb. The last time I had TW, I maxed out at about 1.2 and a steady .85. Thats some fast ass ****!!!

I use TW when in L.A. and I pretty much get the speed they advertised. I pay for 30 down and get a consistent 26+ most of the time. Netflix and all other video streaming services work without issue. I've never used Charter but I'd be weary of Fios. With all the recent reports that they are throttling Netflix I probably wouldn't go with them.

I will be in LA for about 8 days early 2015 and am thinking of staying in little tokyo.. is this a good place to stay to see LA? I assume the train line will get me around relatively easily and cheaply?

*I'd like to be close enough to commerce casino which is why I'm thinking downtown LA area..
Would it be worth breaking the 8 days up into 4 days/4days downtown and santa monica?
What are my options with traveling from D/T LA to commerce? bus? train?..

is san diego worth seeing or will 8 days be enough in LA?..

I don't know about staying in Little Tokyo. Not the best part of downtown, but it would keep you connected by metro rail and train. Other than Union Station, not too much to see right around Little Tokyo. You will be within walking distance of all of downtown, though it will be a mile or two to some parts. You would be able to take the red line metro train very easily into Hollywood, Universal and LA Live/Staples. You'd be able to take metrolink or amtrak trains to Disneyland. There are two metrolink stations in Commerce but the hours on them don't go late at all and the one closest to the casino has a very limited schedule. Problem for you is that there is a metro line being extended to Santa Monica that will probably open sometime in 2015, but not when you're there. So being in downtown L.A. you will not be connected by train to West Los Angeles. There are buses that make the trek. You could also use Uber or cabs. But the Los Angeles metro area is sprawling and there is a lot you won't be well connected to by public transit. Eight days is a long time to be in L.A. Might want to check out SD with the Zoo/Wild Animal Park and Old Town.

I want to check out some live music, anything from rap/hiphop to electro/dance even some jazz clubs where should I go?.. Stand u comedy?
The only the I have booked so far is an NBA game..

Lots of good comedy options. I'm personally a big fan of the Upright Citizens' Brigade on Franklin and Bronson. You can buy tickets directly on their website for cheap, they're daily. Best ones are Facebook, ****ty Jobs, and ASSSSCAT imo.

Jimmy Kimmel might be a good option for comedy. It might take up a good portion of your day just to get into a live recording though, but I'm not entirely sure

I am going to be in LA for 3 nights. I am staying at Sunset/Vermont in Hollywood.

I am attending a NHL game on the Thursday night @ Staples. Best way to get there? Drive or Public Transportation?

Any tips for leaving LA on a Friday and heading to Vegas? Times and routes etc... I will take a recommendation for a good stop along the way for food if anyone has one.

Im back in LA again on Tuesday. I am looking for a good nightclub and bars for the Tuesday and Wednesday night. Maybe college areas?

I'd just uber it to the game. If you don't wanna spend $13 or whatever, you could take the subway (there's a stop right there on Vermont) downtown and uber the short distance that remains. Driving/parking sucks imo.

My tip for leaving on Friday is leave early. If you wait until 3 or later it's going to suck really, really badly. I try to get out by noon. There's only one route afaik.

Somewhat surprisingly, college areas are the worst place for nightclubs and bars. Since it's mid-week, you're gonna wanna go somewhere that's always busy. I'd recommend Hollywood, it's close to where you're staying. There are tons of cool places, just depends on what vibe you're looking for.

By far the best way is to just hop on the metro red line train at the Sunset/Vermont station and ride it for 10 minutes to the 7th/Metro station. There are three exits to that station: Hope, Flower and Figueroa. Go out on Figueroa, cross over 7th and walk four blocks, crossing over to the right side of the street and there will be Staples. It will be $1.75/per person each way to ride the metro, which will be open past midnight. It's a nicer area of downtown now near L.A. Live and walking along Fig will be safe. You can also switch to the Expo or Blue line at 7th/Metro for no extra charge and ride it one stop to the Pico station, from which you will be able to see Staples. But it's not really worth doing for the two blocks closer it will get you.

You could get dinner in that area before or after the game. You'll be walking past the L.A. landmark diner The Pantry, which won't be anything that special but it is famous. The Counter next to the metro station on 7th is a place you can get a quick (and good) burger before heading off to the game. Or you could opt for a little more pomp and circumstance and go to Bottega Louie, which is right across the street from the Seven Grand bar, for Italian food and the most outrageous dessert display in town.

Obviously, best time to drive to Vegas is at night. I think the go-to food stop for people driving from L.A. to Vegas -- at least for me and all my friends -- is the In-N-Out in Barstow. Just take the 210 to the 15 and ride it all the way over.

There aren't really college areas with good nightclubs/bars in L.A. You're better off in Hollywood. My favorite place to get a drink is to get an old fashioned from the Seven Grand Whiskey Bar that's just a couple blocks from that 7th/Metro station.

Really good review. Thanks.

I guess the kind of bars/clubs we would like would be lower class and more wild if there is any particular recommendation.

Are you talking the actual college crowd? The 901 bar and grill is USC's only off campus bar and gets really wild on Tuesdays and Thursday but there will be an insane line if you get there after 10. I can ask my roommates about the UCLA scene if you want that. Lots of places in hollywood will be wild on the week nights but most will cost more $

Is there any issue getting in to these places when we are not students?

If you could ask him I would appreciate it. I find Hollywood ridiculously touristy and would like to try somewhere like the UCLA scene. We could deal with queue no problem as we would happily arrive early.

You're not in the right part of Hollywood if that's your take. Which isn't surprising, because you're a tourist! I'm just gonna warn you, as a UCLA grad student, the UCLA "scene" is nothing special whatsoever, but of course do whatever you prefer.

Ok I am happy to take this input aswell. We are looking for somewhere that we can go a little mad. I usually find US bars in the better areas a little uptight. The way ye guys drink over there is a lot different to us here. I would have imagined that the Hollywood bars would be pretty uptight. We would be out from about 6pm. If you think there is somewhere in and around Hollywood that may be of interest by all means suggest it and I will do a little Yelp research.

I don't know much of anything about clubs, but Hollywood isn't as touristy as you think outside of Hollywood/Highland.
