Jacques Lemans Men's Classic Bristol Collection Watch #1367A - $149.99 (from $695 according to Amazon, wtf?)

Seiko Men's Seiko 5 "Orange Monster" Automatic Dive Watch #SKX781 - $143.9
Which Colt do you have?

Nit: the Seiko Orange Monster is not a Seiko 5.

A73380, no diamonds, black dial.

And I'm just going with the name on Amazon, why is it wrong? Is the pic I posted the OM?

Re: the colt, I'm more interested in the movement. Are all colts thermocompensated quartz? I'm not very familiar with Bs but I know at least some Colts have TC high-end-quartz movements.

Re: The Orange Monster, that pic is the OM. "Seiko 5" is a particular sub-brand of seiko. In general, seiko 5's are "value" watches, cheapo automatics. Many are very basic models, either dress, railroad/military style, or (non-ISO-rated) diver-style under $100. There are exceptions, some 5s are more expensive than the Monster. The frankentunas, for example, are real ISO-rated divers and run around $250 which is more than the street price of the monster but less than the MSRP.

I own an SKX007 and an Orange Monster. I have been thinking about getting a Vintage Seiko. Either a Bullhead or a Helmet. I have been seeing alot of Citizens lately and wonder how you feel about Citezens vs. Seikos?

Re: Let's Talk Watches

Was about to ask in another forum when I stumbled on this great thread. Was quite saddened when it ended on page 3 though :/.

Anyway, I have been looking for a watch for about 6 months now, but have not found any which met my requirements so I hoped you could point me in the right direction.

First of all, I have a very skinny arm and long fingers. I can reach around my wrist with my pinky and reach my tumb.(I don't know if thats very descreptive, but I'm all around pretty skinny) This is why I'm looking for something pretty slim to avoid looking too akward.
I was thinking in the 100-200$ range but for the right watch I know I can save up a month or two more to get it.
I really like this:http://www.gemnation.com/watches/Pat...ater-7439.html
to give you an idea. I know this is WAYWAYWAY outta my price range, but I'm not asking for 18k white gold etc. I'm just looking for a very simple, slim, bright/white preferably, smooth looking watch.

Any pointers to certain brands etc would be very much appreciated. Thanks alot.

As mentioned in the top post, this is the second let's talk watches thread.

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/79...atches-149804/

was the first, and contains a ton more material.

The vintage seiko automatic chronos are so sweet.

Re: citizens, I think they're fine. They just don't really do much of interest with automatics any more (especially in the lower price ranges), which is what I'm mostly interested in. Quality wise I think they're roughly interchangeable with Seiko at similar price points. It's mostly just a matter of taste IMO.

There's just not much to be interested in from a technical standpoint. They're quartz watches with solar recharge. The movements are, in general, not particularly refined, though they're competent and practical. There's not much talk of any mundane (movement) quartz watches for the same reason.

lol

you picked a helluva watch to illustrate your taste!

How about a Seiko SCVS005? About $350.

The SCVS007 version is the same but with a cream dial and gold numerals/hands. These have the 6R15 movement which is very nice for the money.

Re: Let's Talk Watches

Yes I know I went a bit overboard with that watch but it was the only one at the time I could find which resembled my taste.

I very much like that. I actually forgot to say that I wanted an all black leather strap instead of the one I linked.

Thanks alot, I will look into that.

Btw, how do prices vary from country to country? I'm going to the states in 2 months but I live in Scandinavia. I thinking, there is a big diffrence with clothes, shoes etc, how about watches?

I was thinking about buying the Movado Juro from jomashop.com. First of all does anyone know if jomashop is reputable? Second I want the watch for wearing with suits and things. I like how the juro looks. Is it crap or ok? thanks in advance.

"crap" in what sense? It has a quartz movement that is roughly the same as you would find in any $20 timex. You're paying for the aesthetics and the name, for the most part. If that's all you care about then buy whatever you think looks good.

In regards to seikos, most of the best prices will be from grey-market internet sellers.

Most of the watches seiko markets in the US are pretty uninteresting (imo).

Most of the really interesting seikos are japan-only and you can't find them on the grey market (most of the grey market pieces come from the rest of the asian market).

Notice there are a lot of "most of"s in there. There are exceptions, but in general the best prices will be on the internet, I would not spend a lot of time on your trip looking for watches.

Re: Let's Talk Watches

Okay, it's just my friend had a bad experince ordering over the internet. We both thought it look good etc. but when he had it on, it just wasen't the same. Didn't feel right, didn't look right, quality was bollocks etc.

Is there any more "reputable" sites or do I just google around for the first and cheapest?

can't comment on the movado, but jomashop is one of the more reputable online dealers you'll find.

hey no offense taken I don't have much "i'm wearing a watch" style yet. What is an example of a classy watch you would like to see me wear if i was trying to impress you?

hmmmm something in that range. tags are kinda cliche i guess but i still think they are solid and id rather that than the movado. the tag carrera is actually a really good looking watch. check out sinn, i think there were some posted in this thread (or actually maybe it was the first watch thread). i think sinn's are really awesome. what else, there are some cool omega's that might be a little more. i posted one earlier that i liked that you can get in the grey market for like 2600 or so--not sure what your price range is.

are you looking for a bigger more rugged type watch or like a slimmer, leather band type watch?

I have no idea about the movement tbh but would love to know more about it if you find something out. How would I go about finding out more than the product # I gave you? I bought it on a whim while traveling and didn't really care about the mechanics of the watch too much.

On another note, there's been a lot of talk of vintage watches and how great value they can be, but it's pretty hard to differentiate good deals from bad. I'm looking at this GUB Glashutte cal. 69.1 on eBay but I really don't know what a fair pricing would be for this. Only one hour left if anyone knows anything :P otherwise I'd love to be pointed towards a good information source for vintage watches for future reference.

EDIT: Since when does tinyurl not work? :X

Re: Let's Talk Watches

That Glashutte looks nice, but the problem with buying vintage is that you don't really have a good idea of the service history of the piece. Buying from super-reputable dealers is really the best you can do IMO.
