If $250 is a hard cap you're missing out on all the lower-end Swatch group(Certina, Hamilton, Tissot) that make some decent stuff in $300-$400.

But at where you're asking, Seiko makes some international market dress watches with the 4R movement, the SRP705, 767, so forth. That's probably your best bet.

I think you can always get an Orient at a good price if you're patient. Maybe around Black Friday or the holidays.

Thanks fly, those look pretty nice! And yeah Gaddy, it's mostly a case of being around at the right time - got a few alerts for all these watches now.

Just watched an interesting BBC documentary, 'The Incredible Story of Marie Antoinette's watch'. Rather bizarrely it was presented by 92 year old Nicholas Parsons who it turns out has a great interest in antique clocks etc. Here is the actual watch

That's the holy grail of watches. Breguet's masterpiece.

She'd lost her head before it was completed. Breguet himself actally died as well and it was finished by his son.

What color would you guys prefer?

Blue for something different and unless you are a GQ model making sure your watch strap inverse primary colormatches your shoelaces isn't something anyone will care about anyway.

Also

"Pilomatics feature 22mm lugs and come mounted on some pretty gnarly handmade leather straps. I have to give them some points on these as they definitely are nicer and more rugged than what one normally finds stock on a watch. They are thick, fold over designs with burnished and painted edges, thick row stitch by the lugs and a nice taper. The black comes on black while the blue comes on blue, both made using Horween leather. They are supple and will break in beautifully."

I'll have to take their word for it, those straps look like plastic fake leather. I think it's the lack of stitching running down the sides, maybe it's just me having a different preference.

Just pulled the trigger on a Hamilton for work. I've been wearing a Tag Aquaracer for a while but I'm a little bored of it now. I'd actually thought of buying this watch months ago but I went off the idea a little, however I've not found anything else that particularly jumps out at me (in the price range I'm considering anyway). Buying a new car this week so I thought I might as well sneak this in as well

I'd go with the blue, but $950 for a base(I assume, if it was Top or Elabore they'd say so) ETA pilot's watch puts you in Stowa/Sinn territory.

Yeah, that's really nice. It's too bad it doesn't have anti-reflective on the crystal (IMO) but the strap and case are incredible and more than makes up for it. Something about that lug profile sweeping in to the rest of the case, damn. Reminds me of a Ferrari.

Is it DLC or ceramic?

I think it's only PVD. My job's mainly office based so it shouldn't be getting knocked around in anyway (hopefully)

It's always fun when people who don't know anything about watches write articles about watches:

These aren’t mass produced on factory assembly lines like a cheap digital Casio.

They're mass produced on assmebly on a factory assembly like an expensive Omega!

Still, I like where this is going, is a chunk of steel really that much more expensive than a chunk of plastic anyway? RM gets away with it on their zillion dollar Nadal tourbillion, and I think the new GP Circuito is of similar material.

If this picks up and I can pick up something like that for 1/4 of the price from Hamilton that'd be an automatic sportwatch I could wear 24/7 without any discomfort.

Breitling lists the Avenger Hurricane at 69 grams without strap vs 150 grams for the Super Avenger without strap, so the difference is monumental.
