From this NYTimes article:

Today Voutilainen, whose Observatoire watch recently won the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève in the category of watches for men, produces about 20 watches a year at retail prices starting at $46,000. His company has orders through 2010.

Not the whole watch weight afaik, from what I've read about comparisons to other watches, not sure though. I actually have no idea what any of my watches weigh though now that I think about it.

Hey guys,

So I have started a new job and a useful watch would really be....useful. I have a couple of specific things I need though, and that is: plastic band, water resistance, and multiple timers (so a digital watch is best). The reason for a plastic band is due to frequent moisture (collecting water samples at work), so I don't want a cloth strap and I already have a metal one that doesn't seem right in that situation.

I like the look of Suunto watches, but I haven't found any that have multiple timers. It may exist, but I'm still searching the Suunto site. Any other brands I should look at for a watch along these lines? I am hoping to spend <300 US, but can go up to 500 or so if I find something that I really like.

I typically wear a Citizen watch, since I like the solar charging and overall look I guess. http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Eco-Dr...7574797&sr=1-6

How many timers do you need?

Are the water samples you're taking salt water or fresh?

You may want to look at a G-shock Gulfman like the GW-9100-1 or a GW-7900-1JF.

The gulfman would probably be best if you're in a marine environment.

I need 2 timers at a minimum. Three would be entirely sufficient.

I am talking potable and wastewater samples. So it is fresh........but the wastewater can be pretty funky.

I will give those 2 watches a google right now, thx!

Pvn, those watches look pretty brutal imo. Do you think something with my wants exists that has a more understated look?

I'm not even sure if those have multiple timers. The 7900 might.

The g-shock Frogman would definitely have two timers, a regular stopwatch and a dive timer. However, it's even more "brutal". It definitely grows on you though.

Only 50$? It looks more than that... I really like the look of this watch.

Do you need stopwatch-type timers or countdown-type? Every g-shock nowadays should have at least one of each, some have multiple countdowns but I'm not sure which models.

This is a good starting point: http://watchshock.com/archive/Casio/G-Shock/

They look surprisingly presentable on a leather strap.

They're brick-****house solid.
I just changed the battery in mine after 6 years

It's what I wear when I'll be doing stuff that kicks the **** out of a watch. Mine is beat to hell, but still keeps perfect time. I disagree that it's 'disposable' - it's actually one of the more durable timepieces you can buy. Inexpensive, but a pure functionality play.

SR & PVN,

Thanks. I like the look of the 9-timer watch. I also like the look of the watch that you just scooped up SR. Price / name?

I've got a Luminox watch.

They are quite good but I've not wore one in ages, don't see the point in wearing a watch now unless to 'show off' because i've got the time on my phone that goes with me everywhere I go.

It's a G7800B-1, not made anymore. Found some on ebay.

They make it in white now. $120 list price.

Not sure but I don't think the multiple timers can be used at the same time

The Mudman has "dual independent stopwatches".
And a watch called the Mudman would be perfect for handling waste water. =)

Why don't people ITT like roman numerals? Just today I got the Longines Grande de Classique which has them. It's beautiful IMHO.

Bad cell phone pic.

Any chance you can post more pictures? I might buy a white Navitimer but i can't find it in any store.

I prefer the one w/o the gold though.

How much you had to pay for it?
