I'm thinking of picking up this Stowa. It's about $770. I've seen this style elsewhere (though I'm not sure where?), and I really like it. I think I've seen some similar cheaper ones, but I'm under the impression that this brand is pretty good in terms of mechanical quality for you $.

Why is this exactly? I am a big Panerai fan and not one of the gheys you speak of.

I guess this one has the same movement and is slightly larger (42mm) and cheaper ($550). I just need to find a brown strap similar to the Stowa. Good place to look for one?

http://www.gnomonwatches.com/archime...tHistoric.html

Edit: I can just buy the strap from Stowa.

lots of those flier looking watches...i had a debaufre/steinhart, they're 44mm and 47mm. stowa is a good name but i wouldn't pay too much for that generic look (i know u can buy a ticino for around $100). not sure if you can find a 40mm anywhere else tho.

Trying to get my girlfriend a watch for Christmas... I really love the Raymond Weil Parsifal and think she would love it:

But I it's out of my price range. So then I found the Raymond Weil Flamenco:

Can anybody give me information about Raymond Weil watches? I don't know too much about them but they seem to be well known within the watch community? Also if you have any recomendations or suggestions for me I would really appreciate it, especially if you knew of something similar to the first watch I posted.

Wow, this watch is surprisingly pretty. Not a fan of the strap though. It would look good with a distressed leather strap, then you'd just have to hope nobody got a good enough look to read the "Timex". Keep it moving and you'll be fine. PVN, you selling?

It's funny you should mention it, it actually came on this fantastic strap:

This strap alone was worth more than the $30 I paid for the watch.

Zulu/nato straps are an acquired taste IMO.

I think those zulu straps are pretty sick personally. i also just got a lighter brown/distressed leather strap for my panerai that i am really enjoying

They look so cheap, like something a 13 year old would wear.

I got the Rolex three years ago and the Hamilton two years ago. The Rolex has been great for me as expected and I had some problems with the Hamilton when I first got it. When I ran the chronograph it would get jammed on the 59th second so they fixed that but it still doesn't keep super accurate time, it's a little slow. Other than that I love the looks of the Hamilton. For my next watch I'd like something that lays thin/flat/low profile on the wrist. Also, lightweight and comfortable fitting would be preferred so that I wouldn't necessarily have to take it off if I were to play golf or something so probably a non-metal band would be better. I guess I want anything ranging from dressy to casual. I don't need another black face so I'd prefer a lighter face. Also since both of my watches are automatic and my watch winder only holds two (and I don't want to get a new one) I think I want to go with swiss-quartz.

I like the classic Movado but I don't really understand all the hate/lack of interest for Movados in this thread. Is the dislike for them really unanimous? I know I said I don't want another black face but I've always liked the Movado signature style.

I'd prefer to spend < $800. Any suggestions?

^^ stretch the budget slightly and go for one of the classic longines imo:

^^ Very nice I like. How do you pronounce Longines? I've never heard of it; are they considered to be good watches? Is there any reason I should be skeptical of buying on amazon even through a third party seller as I found here? http://www.amazon.com/Longines-L4-72...6963896&sr=1-1

Longines are a classic (founded 1832) and very well known and respected swiss watchmaker imo. You are buying a real timepiece which would fit well in your already sterling collection ^^

In terms of buying on amazon, i have no real idea whether its legit or not, I'm sure others on this forum will be able to give you some advice. That price $585 does seem suspiciously low though, its more like £900 in england.

Watch tool question:

http://www.nationaljewelerssupplies.com/p/ETCWR770.html

Is this the correct tool for removing the case back for a dive watch? The battery crapped out in my TSAR.

Also, Zulu straps ftw.

(not watch related, but horological)

Check out this rad old electric miltime wall clock I just bought.

Circa 1940's, world time dial, made in USA, big red second hand.
Haven't gotten it in yet so I don't know if it keeps good time or not, but I figured the case/dial/hands were worth it even if I had to gut the mechanicals and put in a modern quartz movement (which would be a ****ing disgrace, but I've prepared myself for this possibility).

Yes, but can find cheaper.
Make sure that you choose the right spanner head. It should fit precisely (or close to it) into the recesses on the case back and not jiggly.
