Heh, probably not a bad idea. Haven't bought the Stowa yet but leaning toward it. Just feel I'll regret it if I pass up on what was my top watch in this segment, and one that is in the exact specifications I wanted. Thought I might see if anyone is interested in the Steinhart first. You really can't find many watches that match the quality/value ratio of the Steinhart -- with a good Swiss movement -- for $400.

Interesting video. Mayer seems like a cool guy to hang with.

Hey, I might be interested in this. Can u take a photo with the watch on your wrist and also post your wrist size?

Reason is my wrists are only 6.5 inches and want to see how it looks, especially from the side views?.

I'm assuming price is $380? Thanks

Oh god, more displaying of my hairy wrists! This watch is a good size for you. Believe it or not, my wrist is even smaller at 6". They have a choice of strap sizes, and of course I took the small. The strap comes with a nice Steinhart-engraved deployment clasp. I'm thinking $400 shipped, $380 if L.A. pickup. Here's some more pics. It's only 38mm, so not as big as it looks in these closeup shots.

With its looks and the high-quality Swiss movement, it really is a bargain for less than $500. I got my Orient Blue Mako back from Orient and they fixed the initial problem where it ran 5 seconds fast per minute. Good beater watch that still looks classy for just over $100.
Glad you got this fixed Gaddy! I was feeling a little guilty for recommending it then you having that issue. I enjoy my mako as well. Unfortunately i have a light scratch on the crystal but its a beater watch so oh well. Maybe i'll replace it with sapphire if someone can do it.

obv not expecting to get a swiss made watch for that, but looking for one that will both: work well, and not break all the time.

I know sea gull and momogrin make them, but has anyone actually bought one or have any feedback on these?

been looking at these two:

Only tourbillons below 5k are Chinese. You might luck out in terms of durability but its risky.

On a Swiss made common ETA movement, you still need servicing every 5 years. Even if the Chinese tourbillons work as intended, who are you going to get to service it?

Assuming that is even an option. More food for thought, service on a regular auto runs $200 or so, service on a chronograph runs close to $500.

how could they refuse to service their own watch!

i guess one should never rule this out, but talk about the worst customer service ever.

It's not that they refuse to service it, it's how will you get in touch with them, how long the service will take and the cost of service.

I would post this question in the Chinese watch sub forum at watchuseek.

I hate when I have a problem with my Samsung phone because customer service is such a pain in the ass due to distance, language barriers, and lack of support in the US. I don't want to think about what I'd have to do to get something like that fixed.

well, Sea-Gull and Memorigin both have US based stores, or at least vendors listed on their respective website that sell their products, and they have contact information on their websites.

So maybe it would work well, at least i would hope so.
