Re: Let's Talk Watches

I've been lurking this thread for a long time and made a few good buys based on advice . I was at a Tag Heuer outlet/factory store today and saw a few Zeniths on display. I've never really seen a Zenith in action (have a few other high end watches but assumed all Zeniths were 10k+).

It's an official Tag Heuer store and the watch was new but only 1-yr warranty for an outlet model. I'm pretty sure it's this model:

http://www.jomashop.com/zenith-mens-...1-21-m526.html

The guy told me MSRP was $11,000 and the store price was $5,500. Seemed like a very good price and the watch was amazing so I almost impulse bought it. Anyone have an opinion on the stainless steel El Primero's? Most links I've seen ITT are the alligator strap versions.

Also I think the stars are kind of tacky but I didn't really notice them when viewing. I'll have to look closer at it since I was kind of in a rush.

Re: Let's Talk Watches

Most of the defy series of watches from Zenith right now should be going for a good price as the company is going in a more classical direction and away from the radical direction led by the previous CEO.

The good thing is that if you like the out there design styling of the Defy line, you should get some deals. Other good thing is that the movement is the same.

Re: Let's Talk Watches

Zenith Defy's are amongst my favorite watches. That El Primero model is a nice nice watch and a sick sick movement. Yes it's bulky, yes it's a bit over the top, yes the stars are a bit gaudy. I don't care. I've seen & tried on that model several times in real life, and I love it.

Enjoy it.

Re: Let's Talk Watches

I'm not sure why more watchmakers don't use the eta2801 more often. I like the Eta/Unitas 6497 and 6498 but they force a really big watch since they were originally pocket watch movements. They also don't hack like the 2801 does.

Love the retro stylings on your watch. I imagine it would look pretty awesome on leather strap as well.

Having quite the hard time with this. Many online sellers list it as having the deployment clasp but when I confirm with them they're like "lol no its just a regular buckle". Still searching, though. (I bet I could find one used with the deployment clasp but I'm trying to get it new).

Re: Let's Talk Watches

you can always just get an after market strap with deployment clasp.

I have bought several clasps from here: http://www.mywatchmaker.net/deployantclasp.htm and they have been very solid.
