It's a megalodon 3. I think all the PVD ones are already sold out.

Sorry to hear that

I love grinding the ebay saved searches, its a great feeling to check your email and find something thats eluded you for years!

It was also a great feeling for me to read a few recent pages of this thread and see people reccomending Oris. When I was in highschool, I fell in love with a watch on page 2 of the newspaper. I cut it out and promised myself I would own it one day. Three years ago, I commemorated my best poker month ever by pulling the trigger on it and its my favorite posession. I hope I have a son that I can pass it down to one day

I have the leather band, here are some photos of the metal band from a watchuseek post

Ok, movement folks.. can you please enlighten me? I will confess I am a shallow watch enthusiast and have not educated myself in the depths of the movement.

Unitas 6498
vs
ETA 2824-2

Aside from the obvious where one is manual and one is automatic, pros and cons of each? Which should cost more/be more of an attraction?

Comparing similar watches different by this movement and curious if they are equivalent quality just different mechanisms or what.

Anyway, appreciate any input....

Thanks

I don't think there's anything particularly noteworthy about either of them. They're both pretty ubiquitous, solid workhorses in their respective niches and you shouldn't have any trouble finding a watchmaker capable of working on them or finding parts.

FWIW, the unitas has a weird tick. It's slow (4 or 5 bps, IIRC) which isn't a big deal visually since it has small seconds, but it sounds odd and the couple I've had have had a very metallic bell-esque clang to their tick. Definitely a different sound.

Hmm.. interesting.. if I am not mistaken, my PAM000 has a Unitas movement in it... it is pretty loud.

The watches I'm looking at are the Debaufre Csar (which I impulse purchased) and the Steinhart Aviation. About the same price (Csar actually higher price but offering a current discount) and aside from recent aesthetic changes by Steinhart (they used to be identical) the major difference between the two is Csar has Unitas and Steinhart has ETA.

Steinhart has nicer strap it seems.. but generally, was curious as to the movement and cost/value/etc.

Thanks

BTW, I'm kinda getting the doxa bug. Am I crazy? On the one hand they're all basically the same, Doxa just seems to put a new dial color in and slap a different name on, but I can't really see any significant difference between the different models. This makes me think Doxa is run by a bunch of pikers that are just phoning it in.

On the other hand, this just kinda says "buy me"

I've wanted to like Doxa but every time something else just irks me about the designs... first thing that grabs me about that model is the hands.. sizes are so quirky looking. Normally the multi color bezel numbers also bug me... I don't know.. just don't 'get it'.

Yeah re: doxa. Dwarf hour hand is weird, but supposedly that's part of the charm. I don't "get" the bezel either.

It's probably just a phase. I'll be over it soon hopefully.

Other bug I have right now is bronze divers. I really need to get one.

the patina on this one is sooooo hottttttt

I kinda hate that Kazimon, the hands are just... wrong and the dial is meh but the case is so right.

The bronze moray with the blue dial is ****ing mind blowing, though there's not a lot of pics of well-patinaed morays floating around.

I think it's $1,725 MSRP in the US

I got mine for €1,000 + change here in Europe, while the official price tag at the AD I bought it from was €1,340. I hope I negotiated well, not sure though - maybe I could have pushed for a bigger discount, but oh well

All in all, I think it's a very good price for this watch. There are many very similar chronos manufactured by more "luxury" brands that use exactly the same movement (valjoux 7750) but cost several times more, while not even necessarily looking better than this one

That's over a 25% discount, I'd say you did very good.

re: Bronze-- definitely grabbing me too... seems like the hot thing coming in to play these days. I am a very anti-gold guy but the aged bronze is really cool.
