you get over it (and you get insurance).. i wear a patek half the week. a few months back i put a small ding on the bezel, it doesn't really phase me.

mind you in years past i've already cracked the crystal on my panerai and scratched up a few rolexes.. i guess you work your way up, but regardless, you get over it. watches are meant to be worn, if you don't put the first ding in them, your kids will when they inherit them..

i'll also re-iterate the lange comment.. the datograph has been calling my name for the last 5 years..

i am a total watch-noob and perhaps someone here can help me with some info.

i have a new+unworn+pricetag still on+boxed Baume&Mercier watch. the shop charged 2.7k Euro for it. now i am wondering how much i can expect to get for it if selling it. anyone got an realistic estimate?

Got bored and shipped one of these last night for $140, not stoked it's a 5 as pvn you have me thinking they're crap, but I've been lusting subs lately and want a white faced beater water watch so it satisfies those desires on the cheap, auction said Japan market but I have no idea.

I've heard pretty decent things about that piece. Seiko 5s aren't all crap. There's a few really nice pieces in there (the frankenmonster/frankentunas are ISO rated divers and very solid, for example). In general, the "sports" subline is nicer than "regular" seiko 5s.

This IWC Portuguese collection is IMO one of the most beautiful watches ever made.

i normally dislike rose or yellow gold watches, but the gold portuguese chrono is just magnificent on the wrist.

I agree, it's a beauty. A little more expensive though.

We should have a "let's talk non-portuguese watches" thread since the awesomeness of the portu has already been beaten to death.

one more comment on the portu: tried one on the other day. watch totally freaked me out. the glass was so clean that i didn't think it was there. it really looked like the hands/dials, which have a good amount of stand off, were exposed to the universe. i didn't really hang out long enough to try to figure out why this was with just this watch amongst the handful i've tried on lately. i think that maybe they use a bigger/flatter piece of glass or something? really odd though.

that's the effect of the double sided AR coating. i had the same effect on my breitling b-2, makes the crystal almost disappear with no reflection. i much prefer the look of the port chrono with the 6/12 subs but ultimately went with the auto for the 7-day reserve and the in-house movement.
