They don't have "soul." Which is just weaselwords for saying "they're too utilitarian."
From a practical standpoint, quartz watches are superior to mechanicals in just about every regard. They are more accurate, they are more shock-resistant, they a cheaper.
They are more susceptible to EMP, but if you have nukes going off around you you've got bigger problems.
Batteries are another weak point in quartz watches. Even batteryless watches like eco-drive or kinetic use capacitors that eventually wear out.
A lot of people think quartz watches don't last as long as mechanicals, but that's probably because most quartz watches they are familiar with use el-cheapo movements. There's nothing inherent about quartz that wears out faster IMO, there are serviceable quartz movements out there designed with 50+ year lifespans.
