i was about to purchase a Jaeger LeCoultre Master Calendar (Steel+Steel Strap) soon, and was wondering about ordering online vs auth dealer. is it ok to order from a site like www.essential-watches.com or www.thewatchery.com ? I'm guessing its fine, but wouldnt mind confirmation.

its about 7500 online and roughly 10500 retail, which is near what auth dealers charge. same warranty length, but with 3rd party.

i don't like getting warranty through the grey market online vendor instead of a factory from AD. in case something is wrong, i would not be comfortable sending my 7k watch back to the online vendor and trust his "guy" or wherever he sends it to.

you can find online vendors who get their stock from ADs with the factory warranty, or you can try to find a used one with leftover warranty.

i never even knew i wanted a watch till i read this thread and the other one...

surprised nobody has mentioned phil ivey... that watch he wears has to be baller...

and i don't know what this says about me...

but i was kinda disappointed that IWC stands for international watch company...
and i would rather have a watch from switzerland than germany...
and i don't like leather bands...
or square faces...

this thread has been useful in determining what i don't want in a watch...

This just isn't true, i'm a haggling fish, and i managed to get 10% off mostly through the prompting of the tourneau sales guys. Others have stated that you can go as high as 25% quite frequently.

maybe at the wynn. but everywhere else you get a discount automatically and its not unusual to get discounts in the 30-40% range depending on the brand

just went watch window shopping at lunch at a few watch stores and i came away really liking the Tag Heuer Carrera. not sure which model but was the the the one that was not so thick. looked awesome when i tried it on.

pricey (for me at least) at $3,200 but i can't stop thinking about the damn thing and i might have to splurge, though i really shouldn't.

other than that i don't have much to say because i know pretty much nothing about watches (but i'm going to learn).
