Speaking of jumping seconds (ie the type of seconds hand you typically find on a quartz watch).

Here is a video of one of my favorite semi affordable independent watches, the Habring2 Foudroyante.

Yes, its a mechanical with a deadbeat second hand and a fractional second hand.

Priced starting at 5000 Euros I believe.

foudroyante is the ****. I got to try on the HBB Ayrton Senna foudroyante chrono and I just stared at it forever.

If I had one I'd just stare at it until I ultimately starved to death.

Someone please explain me if I'm wrong.
From the very first post in this thread:
"1) Please don't devolve the discussion in to one about the possible shallowness of potential watch buyers. Much of the discussion will be amongst well-to-do people considering buying expensive watches - whatever their reasons are, it's their decision, and they are aware they could buy something else cheaper if all they wanted to do was tell time."

Yeah sorry, I meant the 3750.5. I even get mixed up with all the speedmaster models sometimes! Haha...yeah the 3570.50 was one of the first watches I wanted to get. The 3572.50 (I'm guessing this is the one with the sapphire crystal?) is not a buy though.

Edit: Also damn, if it's hard to find sub $2k. I remember searching for mine in the summer and I would regularly see it between 1.6-1.8k. Guess prices increased.

Just picked up this Hamilton off of Ebay. Even after trying it on in person I wasn't sure it wouldn't look too huge on my tiny wrists but I'm really happy with it (helps that I got a pretty killer deal on it heh). BTW, this isn't the actual watch, but I can post pics of the actual watch later if anyone wants.

thoughts on spending ~500 on this used vintage 1960s auto chronometer omega constellation? size is about 36mm.

"SWISS 'OMEGA' 24 JEWEL AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT CAL.571(adjusted 5 positions) THAT RUNS STRONG & KEEPS GOOD TIME"

was wondering if it would be worth the money, or am i better off spending on a brand new watch?

How was the condition of the watch when you received it?

Sick watch btw, I had my eye on this watch for a while, 525$ is a sick deal.

Yeah it came with everything and was in near mint shape as far as I can tell. One small scratch on the bezel was all I could see (I don't have a loupe) on the watch itself and the strap has a spot that's a little scuffed. I got it on eBay so I was kinda worried about that stuff myself when I bid on it, but now I really couldn't be happier with it. My one small complaint is that the day/date version of the maestro is slightly more useful, but I prefer the clean dial on this one looks-wise. I'd definitely endorse the purchase of this watch by anyone in this thread, even at the ~1.5k msrp!

Constellation is one of the most historic and beautiful of Omega watches imo. Obviously quality of vintage watches are going to vary greatly and you might need to throw down another $150 to $300 for service or maintenence.

I would try to see if they have service records and would be nice to see how clean the movement is. Its just like buying a used car. You have to be more careful than buying new.

Hi can anyone in here tell me how to buy a watch that's only sold in Japan?

This is the only site I found but it does not look very credible.

I find it rather odd that for all of this thread, or almost all, pocket watches are not even mentioned. To rectify this situation, I offer the following links.

Inexpensive pocket watches (less than $ 100):

http://www.gentlemansemporium.com/store/watches.php

A bit more expensive pocket watches ($ 250):

http://www.gunthergifts.com/swismadelhei1.html

And Swiss made stainless steel, gold, and silver pocket watches from Jean Marcel, a bit more on the expensive side ($700- $1,700); chains also available:

http://www.pocketwatchsite.com/jm.html

Sterling Silver

18k Gold

-Zeno

PS: It is also great to go for antique or vintage pocket watches if you like. Many great deals can be had.

Richard Mille 020
This thing is sick, I'm not exactly sure on the weight, but the RM wristwatch that was misplaced by that tennis star weighed twenty grams(not including the strap)

To give you an idea of what that is, it's less than four quarters, and a Rolex Submariner is probably 120-140 grams.

$450k

The 4 indicator is supposed to be function, meaning neutral(in) H is hands(out) and W(wind) but it says R, I'm not exactly sure.

In any case, holy crap.
