Regarding the IWC love, what stumps me is the uber-love for the Portugese Chrono, as if it is the king of all watches. It's nice, but I would so rather a Portugese Regulator, the big pilot, or that Portofino above.

Sorry about the quality of the picture, that's a screenshot and the best I could get. Any idea what brand/reference is that watch? Would like to take a closer look on it!

2 very different watches. One is quartz kinect with a perpetual calendar and the other is a skeleton automatic.

First one is going to be more functional (you never have to set your calendar) but if aesthetically you prefer the 2nd one then you might go with that one.

First will have a tick 2nd hand, 2nd will have a sweep.

Nit: they both have sweep seconds.

"Sweep" refers to the fact that the second hand sweeps the entire dial (i.e. it's not a on a subdial). The rate at which it ticks is not relevant.

thats so weird. I've always referred to that concept as center seconds. What would you call a second hand on a mechanical watch thats continuous?

generally when I see people refer to that they'll simply specify the bph of that particular movement. 36000bph = 10 beats/sec, eg.

ty guys, geezz i realise I know absolutly nothing about watches :P

someone told me the mecanism of the bulova watch is alot cheaper compare to the seiko...??

They are completely different. That Seiko is battery powered but the battery is rechargeable from physical motion, thus the kinetic.

The Bulova is completely mechanical and its power source comes from a wound up spring which is either wound thru the crown or wound by moving your wrist/watch and turning the rotor.

I'm assuming the Bulova is using the Miyota 8215 workhorse movement but maybe its using something else.

Those 2 watches are pretty apples and oranges to be honest.

Yay, Orient Mako. Best automatic under $100 imo and I'm glad you picked it over the Orient Mako XL as the regular Mako lume is just so much better.

I've always been a fan of Linde Werdelin styling. They do charge a lot for ETA based watches but their case/material usage is great.

Spidolite chrono is coming too.

noob watch question that i probably already know the answer to, just hoping maybe its not the answer.

i just got a mechanical automatic self winding watch (link in case there is differences between mechanical watches; http://www.amazon.com/Eric-Edelhause.../dp/B000KJDH6A). If i don't wear the watch every day, and thus load the spring as it sound when I was reading about it, will i have to reset the time every time i put it on as the spring doesn't last long enough to keep the watch running in between times i'm wearing it.

thx

yes you will have to reset the time if the power reserve runs out (ie main spring becomes fully unwound). Solution is to either keep it on a winder or wear it more often.
