how often do you guys receive comments on your watches?

I'd say never of the three that I've owned, though I did get some nice comments about my old Armani quartz(girl was in to me though so whatever)

I got a compliment on my IWC yesterday but the guy said "oh, nice, I love IWC watches."

=\

that's a pretty good description of how I dress for sure. I'll throw on a good button shirt and nice jeans when I go out. Dress up real once in a while for restaurants and such, then I might wear pants and a jacket. But I'm usually in a t-shirt/sweatshirts/sweaters and jeans.

I should add that I'm in college.

good option that works with casual but also classy with a touch of balla

yeah I mean, unless you're really classy or hang with a really classy crowd. If I, personally, was gonna spend up to 20k on a watch, it BETTER say "baller".

IMO if it doesn't have a leather strap, it needs to be something cooler than steel too. Going into Boston tommorow, while there gonna see if I can find a good store

Just picked up this little badazz...'77 Seiko Helmet aka Seiko Darth Vader. I love vintage Seikos. Next I plan on getting a Seiko Bullhead or maybe a UFO.

i just sold my panerai 233, and looking to add an iwc auto with power reserve. the big inge looks badass (45mm) but i will probably buy back the one i sold last year, a portuguese(42mm). 45mm and bulky is too big for me.

The 6139 is a sweet movement, and the white helmet is my favorite in that group. I think I mentioned this piece in my big seiko post a few pages back.

Very nice catch IMO. It looks to be in pretty decent condition (many of the helmets I've seen are beat to hell). I think these look nicer on the fishbone bracelet, you can find those in NOS condition pretty frequently on eBay.

don't you guys get annoyed when wearing a metal band? it keeps pinching my wrist hair.
do the more expensive watches not do that?

I'm still mucking about since I'm not going to the watch store until next Friday. But I am also on the look for some slightly flashier alternatives to the jaegar. Maybe white gold-unfortunately all of the cool watches I've seen like this have been 25k+. I'm thinking 14-16k is a practical limit right now.

Jeff, thoughts on a Audemars Royal Oak Offshore or a Hublot Big Bang? Both of those fit pretty nicely into your price range and are certainly considered "baller".

I can't find anything that stands out for the Audemars. I like some of the Hublots, never even heard of them before:

Would love some help finding some ideas for watches that fit these criteria for my next addition:

Must have:

Case Diameter of at least 44mm (ideally something like 48, I'm looking for somewhat of a monster watch on this)
Chronograph

Ideally will have these, but is not a requirement:
Leather band
Black as the main color
Automatic movement
Price <1k

The more of these criteria that can be met, the better.

white gold is probably a bad choice as it is softer/less resistant and way more scratch prone than solid steel and looks pretty much exactly like SS

For some reason, I can't decide if this is the most awesome watch I have ever seen or the ugliest watch I have ever seen. Very different. Yeah, it's growing on me as I type this.

Damn. Auto + chrono + <1k is going to really, really narrow your choices. Maybe down to zero.

I think even the cheapest Seiko auto chrono will run around $2500.

Some suggestions anyway, though, in wildly different directions:

http://www.worldlux.com/cgi-bin/navi...roogle_sponsor

That's going to be more than double your price target.

That's more like $250. Quartz, but it's an ISO-rated diver, all the crowns fully screw down. And it's BIG. 48mm and like 15mm thick. It's a helluva chunk of metal.

Any particular reason you want a chrono? You could REALLY open up your options if you dropped that.

If this is the case, lets move the chrono into the ideally, but not required field. I'd love to see some more options, the two you listed were the right idea.
