Ok i pussed out and bought this for my suit wearing escapades. I couldn't rationalize paying $400-700 for a watch that I sort of like. I'd rather save up for a dazzler in the 2-5k range in a couple years. So I got this puppy for $60. Flame away.

How about a Seiko SCVS005? About $350.

The SCVS007 version is the same but with a cream dial and gold numerals/hands. These have the 6R15 movement which is very nice for the money.
pvn,

I'm interested in getting a watch similar to this style. My most perfect dream watch would be this bad boy: http://www.watchbuys.com/store/pc/vi...4&idcategory=0

The size, the simple dial, the clean look, it's what I want.

I'm willing to spend somewhere around $500 on it and would obviously prefer if it was fairly easy to buy so that I could go somewhere around Atlanta and try it on.

jeff,

personally, i love the watch you posted. it's obviously within your price range, etc.
i would take a look over the last thread (linked in op) which has a ton of great watches, with photos, as well. i really love the watch raptor got, but i think that it was something like a $25k watch? not sure.

the watch i personally like the most in that price range (though i couldn't stomach paying its price, myself) is this one:

front:

back:

Reverso Squadra World Chronograph

available with leather, rubber, or metal bracelets. usually somewhere around $15-16k, afaik.
chrono front, time in 24 time zones on the back.

Yes, Antonius wears a Super Avenger. Not too sure if the diamond bezel is the Breitling one or aftermarket though.

jesster,

yeah i'd looked at those a bit but the smallest of the "clean" looking ones is a 44mm i think? obviously not that ridiculously bigger than a 40mm, but still really big, imo?
Yeah. The diff between 40 and 44 is definately there. I'll see what else I can find. My boss has a Pilot like you are looking for, and his isn't too big, and I know it was a max $600 watch.

They call it that because their marketing department has decided to go full-bore with SuperBuzzWords (tm).

BTW, from a practical standpoint, independently settable hour hand is great for travelers who move around a lot. Also, for High-End Quartz pieces it allows you to change the time without moving the minute hand or interrupting the second hand which is great if you're synced to a precision source (you don't have to worry about losing your sync while you move the hour hand, the seconds continue to tick while moving it whereas most movements hack while moving the minute hand).

The band is easily changable, don't let it affect your purchase decision (if we're talking about leather; bracelets are a different matter).

Heh.

You can find these under $300.

There are a couple of variations of this (you can get them with TiN coated case and bracelet, there are also variants with blue dial highlights instead of red, etc.

These have the newer 4R15 movement which seems to be a pretty simple evolution of the rock-sold 7S2x movement. Personally I'm not crazy about these, but if you like the Sinn look these are considerably cheaper (the Sinn pieces these look like will be closer to $1k).

Even cheaper, SNZG15 (and variants). These are around $150.

The seiko5 logo really tilts me, it just clutters the hell out of the dial.

The above are all 42mm.

Seiko also has a HUGE number of military-styled quartz chronos in the $200-400 range.

$200 titanium piece (available with Ti bracelet) SNA139:

$400 japan-only chrono SBPP007:

If you want something Swiss, and you don't mind something more pilot-styled than military, Archimede seems pretty solid. I haven't seen one in person but I know a couple of people who have these and they're happy. But again, 42mm.

~$500

So, say I want one watch, maybe two but probably one

I don't want nothin with a huge hub or really flashy. I want it to be something sick but I wanna be able to wear it casually, like when I'm just in jeans and a sweater or even a hoodie or a short-sleeved button shirt or t-shirt. I dunno if such a watch exists or if this would be in bad taste or w/e so fill me in. I don't like the idea of buying this thing and only being able to wear it when I put on a button shirt and matching dress shoes or some ****.

All I've ever owned is some $1500 movado I got for winning a poker tournament. But I just decided I want a watch so I'm doing it right.

recommendations?
The new white-gold Submariner? It's stealthy since it's all white gold but it has the newest rolex features, ceramic bezel, new clasp/bracelet, etc.

It's not super-flashy, most people will think it's just a "regular" subbie, which works great casually IMO.

Looks like a pretty good deal for $60; does the job you need it to do amirite?

Only problem with titanium is it scratches like a bitch unless you get the carbon-treated stuff which you aren't going to find on anything less than $500 (more like $2k if we're talking swiss).

That sinn is awesome. I really wish their stuff were cheaper.

I can think of quite a few 6R15-based seiko pieces with that super-clean look. My favorite is the SCVS013.

Also noteworthy, SARB031:

There are a ton of these in the SCVS and SARB lines. A few new ones with roman numerals. Most of these are sub-$400, a few are between $400-500.

Of course, these are all japan-only so you can't really try them on unless you know someone who has one. And they're all going to be on the smaller side, sub 40mm.

First watch I thought of too that had the mature expensive look but wouldn't look totally off with a hoodie and sneakers. Vacheron Constantine Dual Overseas Time, go for about 11k.

Was thinking the more simple faced stainless steal Royal Oaks are in this category too although they seem closer to 15k. Sorry no pics imageshack is being weird.

I too love that JLC jeff, but as you seem like much more of a casual dressing guy it seems like it would look odd most of the time. Maybe be more flexible with a black leather band. Sick watch though, if it makes you happy go for it.

Go to a watch store too, even if not to buy try stuff on, get an idea for what feels good etc. gl

Thanks for the advice guys. That submariner is sick. 22k?

I'm gonna check out a store in Boston and see what I like.

I leave with:

yea that JLC looks pretty sweet already...if you like that simple classy design besides JLC there are constantin vacheron, a. lange & sohne (last thread had a nice one), and of course patek.

there's always in the "in" thing atm and for the younger crowd like iwc and panerai which i'm a fanboy. i have been looking at a Hublot Big Bang or a Audermars Piguet Royal Oak or the Offshore which looks like they'd go with anything from classy to casual.

couldn't stress this enough, you need to go and try these on. online pictures and wrist shots are great...for photography sake but until it's on your wrist you can't be 100%.

here's the lange&sohne, might cost a bit more than your budget but if you gotta do it right...and it's not my money!

sheebus jeff, i've looked at that pic for about 5 minutes now.....and i really don't like it. it's not my money or watch though so.... hope you're happy with it.

it's just too flashy for my tastes. Looks expensive though if that's the image you're trying to portray.

gl with it.

lange&sohne so sikkkkk

I'm probably going with the JLC but I'm gonna check out a watch store next Friday while I'm in Boston for the Celtics game and see what I like.

besides JLC there are constantin vacheron, a. lange & sohne- LOTS of nice options here.

I'm digging that rolex white gold submariner too.

Mental battle between a classy look with moderation and reasonable spending, and just getting some baller $20k watch. Either way it's likely something that will be underneath the sleeve of my sweatshirt half the time, lol.

more watch porn up to 20k pls

IWC Top Gun. You can get the regular version that doesn't have the button at 10 o clock.

I love it because it's black, really easy to read, great looking and not too flashy. You seem like me, mostly dress in jeans and t-shirts/hoodies but like to dress up once in a while.

That said the JLC and that Lange are both fantastic looking, you're going to be really happy with whatever you get.

I like that, yeah. Looking at pics now and pulling out what I like, that was one of em

that's a pretty good description of how I dress for sure. I'll throw on a good button shirt and nice jeans when I go out. Dress up real once in a while for restaurants and such, then I might wear pants and a jacket. But I'm usually in a t-shirt/sweatshirts/sweaters and jeans.

I should add that I'm in college.
