Are watch straps from Hodinkee good to go? Looking for a brown-dark brown leather strap for a GMT II.

I was considering a Hodinkee strap briefly. Can't speak to the quality but they seem overpriced.

Eventually settled on a couple from Rios1931. Nice selection and good value imo.

Yeah I've never bought a Hodinkee but my strap addiction is even more troubling than my watch problem, and I've found(with some exceptions) that there's a real harsh diminishing return curve after you go over like $40. Sub $20 straps are almost all trash, but the handful of expensive straps I've bought were all disappointing in their lack of clearly being better than the $30-$50 range.

Rios is good, and you can get them for cheaper off Amazon/ebay if you're not picky about style. Hirsch is good. Clockwork Synergy's more expensive(but still relatively cheap, like $35) straps are worth it, their real cheap stuff is not.

For natos, PhenomeNato is incredible, absolutely worth the $40 for a nato.

It blows me away with what Hodinkee commands for everything. I remember when they did the article on that sweet hourglass with copper beads instead of sand. I remember thinking that'd make a nice gift for my dad, then I saw the ****ing price and just **** my pants. Seriously? And sold out?????

Looks pretty nice. All handmade, okay. Any guessses? I figured at most $600.

$12,000.

Anything Mark Newson is going to be pricy but it seems the ATMOS clock is a comparatively better value than the hourglass.

Thoughts?

Looking for a nice everyday watch for 1-3k I like Rolex omega breitling

Really like the IWC but its pre-owned and looks worn. Very nice Omega Dynamic? Want to pull trigger on this unless someone advises against.. may fit little small on wrist?

Its a standard 7753 based chronograph. Nicely balanced dial though you may find the case thickness a bit much at 14.9mm.

Personally, for a 7750 based chronograph, I think the best value on the market is something like the Longines Heritage 1942 Chrono.

Thanks for quick reply amoeba, which one were you talking about? Im looking at touchofmodern website specifically because they have pre-owned and good deals from what I've heard but I'm open to suggestions.

What do you think about the Omega with the brown leather strap?

The Omega is definitely the best of those three imo, it seems like Omega was just a little early on the 1940s/military-style phase which has been going very strong lately.

Is this still worth 5k even though it was purchased in 2014? I contacted and gave him an offer of 4K and he said lowest he would go is 4525.

Is this a good deal?

I'd say that's a pretty fair deal for that watch.

You can buy a 16570 with $4525. Feel like 214270 should be slightly cheaper.

Well I'm still not very knowledgeable about the specific models but couldn't come to an agreement for that one. I'm still looking. Made a couple of inquiries on watch recon forum. Looking to buy a used Rolex or Omega maybe Cartier or Tag Heuer. Open to suggestions ty

I specifically like that blue light up color on that 214270

Blue is the standard lume color on newer Rolexes, they switched from green like 10 years ago.

mods please delete if this is out of line (and a pm clarifying would be appreciated as well).

I have dealt with this guy a handful of times and he does not budge much on price. That being said, he knows his **** and has a good rep and is very pleasant to deal with.

IME, high volume guys like this charge ~5-10% above what you can find from less/(un)known, sellers, but they have the rep and selection to be able to do so.

Take this with a grain of salt as i have never looked into pricing/value prop of this specific piece

Oh yea that makes sense I was just curious why that one was 4525 and it was purchased in 2014 but the same model in 2016 was around the same price.

I think case diameter is what accounts for biggest price fluctuation. I think a 39mm would fit me best since I have a smaller wrist up to maybe 43-44mm

I think you should try it on first. The last ExplorerI wears and looks pretty small for 39mm. The 39mm Royal Oak wears and looks larger.

I've been eyeing off these for at least a year and finally used my birthday as an excuse to pull the trigger. It's sexy AF and my dick doubled in size as soon as I put it on (yes, it is now 5").

eta: obviously the next thing i need to buy is a phone with a camera instead of a potato.

I don't post here often but I am a browser. Can anyone say something about this watch?

It's a SARB017 Alpinist I've had my eyes on for a while and wanted to see if anyone has bad/good things to say.

The 6R15 is a great movement, very highly regarded. The SARB017 in particular has somewhat of a cult following for obvious reasons. The strap that comes with this watch is notoriously ****ty, just factor that in when you buy it.

Some sellers (seiya in particular) will source the SARB bracelet for you, which isn't supposed to be an option on this piece but it looks great and is a very nice bracelet.
