so I usually have expensive taste but saw a picture of a friend with this watch and I am really intrigued. It's very cheap which makes me think it's hot garbage but I like the style and I dont have anything in this caramel light color.

So the questions are:

Does anyone know anything about this brand and its quality?

Does anyone know of a similar style watch in a better brand?

If you like it, just buy it. Note that if it is just the strap color that you like, you can buy straps separately.

Would be a weekend wear. It's gonna see time doing outdoor activities. Needs to be rugged (shock and water proof). Doesn't have to be mechanical, but I do prefer them. Obviously has to tell time reliably, but would also like a date function. Chronograph would be nice, but not a necessity.

I had a couple of SNK809 Seiko 5's in the role, but they didn't hold up very long to any of that. Size, weight and function were great, but they weren't very robust.

Would like to keep the new one under $500. Ready, go.
Seiko dive watches seem like they'd be more suited to your task than the Seiko 5, either the SKX or the Turtle is comfortably under your price range. Non-diver, the Seiko Alpinist.

Getting a rugged mechanical Swiss under $500 is real unlikely absent some clearance deal, and if you're willing to compromise on mechanical just get a Casio.

Oh actually yeah clearance deal, get a Glycine from this ebay seller:

Plenty of field watches under $500, or try a "Best Offer" for the $550-$600 divers for like 60% of list.

I just got another SNK809. Third time's a charm right? It's a nice little watch, I just think I've been running bad.

I'll probably look to a digital watch if this one dies on me. Is the Timex Ironman line still cool? I remember when I was a kid, the Indigo ones mean you were a badass. The poor kids had the ones with the yellow lights that only lit up like half the screen.

I want to buy this watch. Is there any reason I shouldn't?

I know very little about watches and nothing about buying watches online.

Thanks!

Was close to punting on a Longines but decided to sleep on it. Saw the Seikos the next day and they look so similar!

Spoiler:

$120 vs. $2200 is pretty bonkers. Got the Seiko today and I love it.

I've got no reason for you not to. Generally I think you can get better prices for watches not using ebay, when the seller doesn't have to deal with the ebay fees. But I don't see that in this case. And it's a respected watch brand.

I would at least look through their entire newer watch selection first.

I'm due for a Father's Day present in the $150-$200 range. I'm thinking about asking for a beater to hold me over until my next major upgrade around Christmas. I would love an Orange Monster but I don't really see anything used or new in that price range. I do like the Orient Orange Mako and the Blue Mako as well. Is there a major drop off in quality between the monster and the Orient? I'd primarily be wearing this on the weekends, wouldn't be doing any actual diving just a lot of fishing.

There is a substantial difference between new monster srp315 and mako, not as big a difference with old 7s26 monster skx779 and mako. Monster bracelet a lot better is main thing.

My mako is a lot more accurate than my monster but that's just variance. I like my Mako though.

Thanks. I think I'm going get a Mako. I reread a lot of this thread and it seems like prices on the Orange Monsters are significantly more than they were a few years ago.

You can get the Seiko Turtle reissue for under $250 if you're willing to lose the orange color option, imo it's the low-end dive watch price-performance sweet spot.

Gna, look in to the difference between quartz and mechanical watches first. Not saying which is better but i think thats a pretty good first step.
