A lesser known comic who has a pretty hilarious book out is Mario DiGiorgio.

Re: Let's talk Stand-up

I got to go to the Opie and Anthony Traveling Virus in Cleveland a few years ago.
Saw:
Jim Norton
Patrice ONeal
Rich Vos
Bill Burr
Otto and George
Robert Kelly

was pretty amazing.
I saw Leno in Vegas and he was great. Did a solid 90 minutes and was high energy the entire time.
Also saw Carlin live as he was preparing for his Your All Diseased HBO special. He was reading from sheets of paper, restarted bits over, etc. I felt like I paid $60 to watch someone rehearse and didn't enjoy myself.

Saw Ralphie May shortly after he took 2nd in Last Comic Standing and show was meh. Mostly same material he used on tv.

Louis CK is my fav touring today but haven't seen him live.

Going to Daniel Tosh in Pittsburgh on Sat and besides Tosh.0 being great weekly his first comedy album was fantastic.

My biggest regret as far as comedians was going to a Magic tournament instead of taking someone up on seeing Louis Black, Dave Attell and Mitch Hedberg
Hedberg died a week or two later.

Re: Let's talk Stand-up

Reread the thread and noticed someone mentioned Patton Oswalt 222. This is a must-have comedy album in my opinion and amazing for a road trip.

I remember my mom having Eddie Murphy Comedian and letting me listen to the parts where he ripped on Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Also the BBQ sketch where Gus's wife looks like a bigfoot. Still has me howl to this day.

When I was really young I found some Bill Cosby albums at a church flea market and I played the **** out of them.
Bill Cosby Himself was the first Standup special I saw and it was fantastic.

Of course I'd be laughing harder now if it was Louis CK calling those kids c.. for rating out dad giving them the chocolate cake.

Patrice ONeal Elephant in the room was fantastic but just youtube clips when hes doing Fox News and defending Imus. Was brilliant stuff.

Also Louis CK recently got into a small amount of trouble for asking Donald Rumsfeld on a radio interview if he is a lizard spaceman that has to live on the flesh of mexican babies.

Rummy wouldn't deny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dK8Y2..._embedded#t=0s

Agree completely on Cook and Mencia but the interviews themselves are definitely interesting.

I can almost go word for word with this disc. Seriously. I can't recite it without it, but I'm pretty damn close with it. Kinda pathetic that I can do that, but the whole thing is outstanding.

Re: Let's talk Stand-up

The only Dane Cook skit I like is the atheist one.

Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Chappelle, Richard Pryor, Mitch Hedberg, and Louis CK are my favorite comedians.

Jimmy Carr's style is great too, love the guy. I'm actually surprised Pablo Francisco was only mentioned once ITT. Pretty talented IMO.

Re: Let's talk Stand-up

I've been hooked on stand up lately. Really like Chappelle, Jim Gaffigan, and zach galifianakis. It also sucks that Greg Giraldo died, I liked his stuff and seemed like all the comedians respect him.

Does anyone have some recommendations for "comedian's comedian" type of guys? Really good, but probably a little under the radar.

Just got a copy of the full DVD. There's about 35 extra minutes and it's freaking hysterical. Best Stand-up special of the year easily. F*cking hell. I hope he comes out with another one soon.

Joe Derosa
Bryan Callen
Eddie Ifft
Bobby Lee
Duncan Tressel

You might have heard of all of these guys or none of them don't really know how much you know about comedy.

Colin Quinn is the ultimate Comedian's Comedian. Others treat him like the Godfather. He's very funny and quick witted but his delivery is sometimes painful. He has a one man show that was very successful on Broadway that is going to be on HBO in two weeks.

Louis CK is probably high on that list now was well as far as being idolized but he's a Colin disciple as well though guys like Chris Rock is a disciple of Louis.

Re: Let's talk Stand-up

I'd say Dave Attell was the Ultimate Comedian's Comedian before I'd say Colin Quinn.

I don't agree at all about Louis CK being a Colin disciple. Those guys all came up at the same time. Colin found some success before Louis, but it wasn't in stand-up. And Louis has found great success as a stand-up and I've yet to even see a Colin Quinn special of any sort. I would love to though.

Re: Let's talk Stand-up

Colin Quinn had a 1993 HBO special I believe. You can find it on youtube.

Chris Rock is not a Louis CK disciple. They pretty much both started at the same time. Chris did SNL while Louis wrote for sketch shows (Conan, Dana Carvey Show, Larry Sanders) early on in their careers.

Not even sure what the ultimate comedian's comedian means.
