also **** dominick cruz, tell me moar about how great his "footwork" is

sad that the division is full of napoleonic wrestling mini-men and that it took this long for a real striker to expose his pillow hands and sloppy technique

Haha excellent, reminds me of this.

Oh no RDA moving to WW. Terrible idea, don't think he will do well there. He's the same height as Woodley with 4 inches less reach but half as thick. Apparently the weight cut has been killing him though.

Don't really see him getting near the top 5. Just too small.

I haven't seen that happen once on the internet ever. Except people like Rogan who are doing it out of professional courtesy imo.

What? He dominated his division for a super long time then loses a competitive fight with a guy who was WAY faster than him, younger, and more athletic, and suddenly he's a bum? lol. And you needed more than a real striker, Dominick is one of the best offensive wrestlers in MMA and it was always a big part of his game and Cody shut him down 0/7. Had Cruz been able to get a few takedowns like he always does he probably would have won.

Yeah, 31 year old long term champion with 3 ACL surgeries loses close decision in a war: OVERRATED

Classic rep!

rep,

re-watch the fight with the sound off. The first two rounds were close.
01-06-2017 , 05:24 PM
Cruz likely losses his fights to TJ & MM if he wasn't able to get multiple takedowns in those fights. His offensive wrestling was always a huge part of his game.

Also I'm not convinced it's all over for Cruz. Prior to this fight nobody expected Cody to have the skills he has or abilities he did including Cruz himself.. All he'd done is knock out a bunch of bums without wikipedia pages in the first round. Then sloppy striker Almeida. His only fight past the 1st round were against Brimage where he didn't look that great and the rounds were kinda close IIRC, and Brionese which tbh I didn't see. Meanwhile Cody had a camp that had faced Cruz a **** load of times and knew basically everything about him.

Cruz is one of the best analysts in the game. Wouldn't surprise me if he was able to come back with a better game plan and edge out Cody.

I'd watched the **** out of a dirty cop movie with these 2 as the leads!

Also, I think this might be the first time i've ever seen Nick crack a smile!

Lol at anyone trashing cruz for that loss.

That fight was a massive mind **** since absolutly noone expected the dynamics of this fight and yet cruz did ok while losing to a much closer decision than it could have been.

I guess cruz would be slightly favourite at least if they have a rematch and it will be boring as **** now that he knows what to expect.

All good points. I had it 49-45 for Cody, but I don't think it was a complete blowout. Cody's timing and accuracy really ****ed Cruz up, and his ability to keep it standing played a huge role. I'm no Cruz expert, but it seems to me in a lot of his fights he relies on his opponent to be the aggressor, and in this fight he was moving forward a lot, letting Cody pop off with counters. He also got flat-footed in rounds 3 & 4, so Cody wasn't having to guess where the ghost of Dom Cruz was gonna be. I think Dom would analyze all of that and plan for it in a rematch. Not sure if he'd be able to implement a better game plan, as he looked like molasses against Cody, but his cerebral approach gives him an edge if they fight again.

Here's hoping Hunt adds Overeem to his list of walk off KOs

Fight IQ and IQ aren't the same thing tho.

Cody didn't luck into his gameplan, it was instilled in him by his coaches and using his experience. He's a better striker than Dom, he moves more efficiently than Dom. He can defend Dom's takedown attempts. He hits much harder than Dom.

Dom is a smart guy, but he failed to make any meaningful adjustments during that fight, due at least in part to the fact that he was getting hit in the head repeatedly.

Injuries are real too. Dom can claim he was at 100%, but it's pretty silly to think that a lifetime of serious injuries to key parts of his body haven't slowed him down a half step. It may be such that his body is just breaking down at 31 because it was never that durable to start with. His hands are notoriously fragile as well, which is an obvious determent in a striking match.

Dom might come up with a better game plan, and he might be able to execute it, but this wasn't a fluke that should have anyone favoring Dom in the rematch. This was a 25 minute exhibition put on by a younger, quicker, harder hitting fighter over a Legend. The king is dead, long live the king.

If Dom's plan in a rematch is to focus on wrestling and grappling he has a a shot to win but I don't see him winning 5 round striking wars with Cody on the feet at his age.

I am not a big dom fan, but I do wonder if he will be able to adjust from this last experience. I think there is a decent chance he is the dude who can and will.

It is all over! Just! Like! That!

Watched a replay of Bellator kickboxing last night and the WSOP play by play commentator was doing it with Matt Mitrione. I never knew he did other stuff than poker, he wasn't too bad.

Mitrione was poor though.

I've watched these clips so many times, that whenever I'm doing MMA and covering up/circling out, I imagine my opponent is Mark Hunt about to catch up with me and KO me through my hands.
