iphone users: downloaded the Louder Logic equalizer app and used with Sennheiser Momentum 2's... round and delicious sound.

standard iphone equalizer sucks, sucks, sucks.

I haven't done much poking around with headphones for a few years but i'm looking for some lightweight, over the ear, active noise cancelling headphones in the ~$300 range. Nothing bulky and I have fairly crappy hearing so I'm prioritizing comfort (6-8 hr sessions), noise cancellation and size also they need to work without batteries for when i get lazy.

I tried on the QC15s when they first came out and quite liked them but that was several years ago, was thinking the 25s are the way to go as the 35s look more expensive for stuff that won't really bother me.

Thanks!

edit: one of my ears sticks out so preferable one that has soft padding that is large enough to go all the way around the ear so it doesn't smoosh my ear

order a few from different sources and return the ones you don't like.

It's always very difficult to suggest something based on comfort because everyone has a different opinion on what comfort is... that being said, in over the ear units, Beyer dynamics makes really great comfortable pieces with wonderful clean sound dynamics.

That seems a bit aggressive (mbrown), I'm planning on going into a store and trying a few on, I was curious whether bose were the new beats and were just an over priced name. I realize it's impossible to tell without trying for an extended session.

Will check out beyer, they look a bit large on the head from what I can see on google, will check them out in store, thanks.

pretty common actually.

i use sennheiser momentums and love 'em. but your ear[s] may cause issue. bose aren't just a marketing ploy- they're worth their requested dollars.

On the noise cancelling ones sure.

Bose aren't the new beats they were the original beats.

In the poker room I like use ear buds that are very good at isolating but not completely noise blocking.

I had a pair of old Bose earbuds back in 2009 that were pretty good.

Anyone ever try these?
Bose in Ear -QuietComfort-Acoustic-Cancelling-Headphones

Or these Bose SoundTrue Ultra in-ear headphones

Other recommendations?

I tried these and they were terrible. The same people who voted for Trump must be voting for these headphones. I shouldn't have trusted the 39k reviews.

bose have been best in class at noise cancelling forever, and their products in that space are great as ra_z said. outside of that, i don't know much, but i believe they are overpriced but will sound okay (whereas the early generations of beats were expensive AND sounded awful, but the latter has been somewhat remedied i believe)

what does your first sentence mean exactly? what are you hoping to block out and what are you hoping to not block out? are you going to be listening to music, podcasts, nothing?

the headphones you linked are excellent, several people in this thread including myself own them. but they are active noise cancelling headphones that excel at cancelling out low frequencies like plane engine noise (i know lots of people who own these solely for flights and they consider them one of the best purchases ever). they are much less successful at cancelling out voices, so when you use these at the poker table with nothing playing through them, everything will feel dulled, you won't hear the A/C etc, but table voices will still be quite audible. maybe that's what you want, but i feel like if you then listen to music you'll struggle to hear much of anything of what's going on around you. try before you buy given the expense imo. maybe you just want a pair of much cheaper earbuds with no active noise cancelling, like a $50 sennheiser set.

Thank you very much for the info. Basically I just like to be able to hear others when playing poker, but the fully noise cancelling feature would be nice for work.

Have you given the "Aware" feature a try? I'm wondering how the sound is in that mode.

"-Aware mode lets you hear what's around you when you need to, at the touch of a button"

I ordered some Shure SE215's a couple of months ago, only used them a few times. The sound quality seems bad, everything just sounds dull and muted, flat with no depth (like i need to turn on noise cancelling or something). Would it be worth buying some different tips to see if they sound better with those?

Really annoying when i listen to some of my fav songs that i know sound much better with other headphones!

brick,

https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/...ul&sh=5ddea26c

the newer bose models allow you to alter the amount of cancelling taking place i think.

Couldn't find Beyer in Australia, I ended up getting the QC35s very happy with the limited use so far, the cushions fit perfectly around my ear, I have a ~20 hr flight next week so that will be the real test thanks for the advice

Looking for bluetooth over ear headphones, budget around 300. Is buying the qc35s the right choice?
01-31-2017 , 04:09 AM
only if you care about ANC i imagine
02-03-2017 , 10:25 AM
If you don't, I'd suggest the V-Moda Crossfade Wireless. IMO, it's the best sounding bluetooth over ear headphones in that price range.

If you happen to be near NYC, Stereo Exchange in the Lower East Side has a closeout sale on a bunch of stuff, including the Crossfades for $200.

The QC 20s are surprisingly good at ANC relative to what I was expecting, and on the whole a lovely experience. Two drawbacks:

1) They have this annoying dongle thing, presumably where all the ANC magic happens.

2) Im about to return my 3rd pair. My experience seems unusual as its not a common complaint, but I would def recommend the full extended warranty if anyone gets them.

Im primarily using the QC30 for earbuds now and overall I like them more than the QC20, but I can't help but feel there is still room for improvement as the ANC just isnt as good as in the QC20. Also, the neck band thing drives me crazy while running to the point they are unusable, but if you could look past that, the variable ANC and wireless convenience are worth the downsides imo.

Grunching but looking for a pair of headphones for around $200. I don't think ANC is important to me, just looking for the best sound quality out there for my price range. I don't really understand what any of the specs mean, I guess I'm just looking for the most bang for my buck. Will I also need an amplifier? I'd be using them with my cell phone and Ipod and on my Laptop. Thanks for the help for this newbie!

I'm really not sure Yeti, I've only used ear buds, I'm assuming headphones have a better sound? I don't care about open or closed although I don't really know the pros and cons. Like I said, I'm a total newbie here. My main priority is sound quality for rock music (not hip hop) .

ok haha i'll try to be in a less bad mood and go through it in more detail:

- when you use earbuds, do you use ones that sit comfortably in the ears (e.g. apple), but not deep in the ears? have you ever used ones that really sit kinda deep in the ear canal and block all the sound out? they are the kind where if you brush the cable while they're in you'll hear it in the ears, and if you eat a potato chip it's deafening. does the thought of wearing ones like that gross you out a little?

- where are you using them? always at home, or out and about? open means people around you will be able to hear them quite clearly, and they won't block sound out. closed means people around you won't hear them, and they'll block sound out to varying degrees. open typically sounds a bit better, but no one uses open headphones outside.

- do you care about looking like a dork while wearing them?
02-23-2017 , 06:52 PM
and last question, probably a trickier one to answer:

- do you think you are someone who wants to hear the track as it's 'supposed' to sound, or do you want to hear it in a more 'fun' way (which typically means the lows and highs are more pronounced, so it's a bit bassier but the vocals still shine through). for example, every car radio is the latter. there's no right or wrong answer to this, different headphones have different sound 'signatures'.
