i got those warrantied through play.com who gave me a refund, for some reason i bought my next set on ebay and the wire has started to come apart near the jack. It's fine if it is stationary but if it is disturbed for instance when it's plugged into my iphone as i walk, it makes a crackling noise.

i really don't want to buy a 3rd set primarily out of principal, i wouldnt mind upgrading but from reading around i don't think earphones really get much better than the se530s.

I prefer the in-canal phones for noise canceling compared to active canceling like Bose.

Hmmmm, since getting mine back from Shure (apparently with the upgraded material in the cabling), i've never had anything remotely similar happen. I think sending them back to Shure themselves could fix your woes?

LOL first question back for PITTM is a bose related question!

Hey Guys, I'm a newbie regarding headphones and would need your advise before buying a new headphone set. I'll use them mostly to listen to mp3 music on my Dell XPS laptop while my girlfriend is sleeping right next to me. So I guess I'll need pretty good closed headphones. Id prefer if the headset would be big enough to completely cover the ears.

My budget is around $200 but could go as high as $350 if there's a big jump in quality. Is there any set that you would recommend?

I've currently got Shure SE310 and they are absolutely brilliant can't fault them at all.

I'm thinking about getting the 510 anyone got them?

I am looking at getting a set of headphones and earbuds. I don't wanna spend a lot on either as I only run with earbuds, and only use headphones when trying to grind with distractions around me. Here is what I was thinking about. Plz let me know what you think.

Headphones....
1. Sennheiser HD-280 Professional Headphones $84
2. Sennheiser RS 130 Wireless Surround Sound Headphones $114
3. Sennheiser HD-555 Audiophile Headphones $97
4. Sennheiser HD-595 Premier Headphone $170

Earbuds....
1. Sennheiser CX300-B Earbuds (Black) $20
2. JVC HA-FX66B Noise Canceling Earphone $20

I don't think I like noise cancelling after reading ITT that it lowers sound quality. Also, I like to hear a little of what is going on around me. In the few pages of this thread that I read, I didn't hear your guys' thoughts on wireless headphones(like my number 2). I also don't know enough to understand what more I am getting between option 1 and 4 (what do I get for the extra $/is it worth it). As is, I'm pry just gonna go middle ground with 3. Plz help as I feel a little lost. Budget: phones $75-220, buds $12-40
Thx

I know very little about headphones but after a little research i went with the HD555s after previously having the bose qc2s. Its nice to be able to hear the tv, doorbell whatever while wearing them. Also they are way more comfy for extended wear.

just my 2cents

Awesome.

By coincidence, this Saturday the rubber housing that connects the cable to the metal casing on the bud seperated on one ear. I wonder if Shure will replace that, or if I should just try fix it myself.

My only comments:

1. For your main headphones, stick with an open design unless you MUST have closed. They just have a much more realistic sound overall. (This would rule out the HD280's). As far as the sennheisers, I bought my brother the HD555's a few years ago and really wasn't too impressed with them. I haven't heard the HD595's, but I'm told they are quite a big step up and actually have bass. These should be easy to find locally - I'd go try to get a demo at some store and if you like them order them online.

2. For earbuds, either of those should be fine. I wouldn't overthink it.

I so want them!

Shure earphones and customer service are both bloody awesome!

I'm also currently looking for a pair of headphones I can use for jogging. I bought the green sennheisers recommended early in the thread, but like with others I've used in the past, they won't stay in my ear. I think it's a combo of my ear shape and excessive sweating. Also I don't want to spend too much as I have the Shures for listening to music, I just want them to stay in and be able to hear the music.
11-12-2009 , 06:37 PM
I'm still using my green sennheisers (except when I use my shuffle and am forced into using the crappy ipod buds. Love them. There is an orange line that is supposedly a bit nicer. Definitely stay in my ear when I am running. Sweet.
11-12-2009 , 06:42 PM
Didn't matter which combo of big and small tips I used, they just won't stay in my ear!!!! I'm thinking maybe something with a hard band that goes over or behind my head?

My Bose QC2's just crapped out after several years (yes, I know Bose "sucks", they were a gift) and I needed to replace them with either earbuds or over-ear headphones that wouldn't leak out a lot of sound, since I work in a large room with several other people. I went to Best Buy, read some reviews on my phone for what they had on the shelf, got the Klipsch S4s which got good reviews on the interwebz and in this thread as well.

So, I'm listening to them now, and I feel like they have treble-static issues - like, everytime someone sings a word with the letter S it's like "CRACKLECRACKLECRACKLE." It's not terrible, but is very noticeable and I'm hardly an audiophile or anything. Is it likely that I got a defective pair or do earbuds just suck in general and this is what I should expect from them? The sound quality from the QC2s was definitely >>> these.

the jvc air cushions dont suck. and theyre 20 bucks.

This will now be my next purchase

Perfect for the iphone.

They don't have those at Best Buy, and I prefer buying somewhere close so I can test them out and take them back if I don't like them. Being stuck without headphones for a day while I wait for online shipping sucks.

I e-mailed Klipsch support and they're asking me what bitrate the MP3s I'm listening to are encoded at, which isn't good because they sounded fine on my Bose QC2s (and they're between 160-224kbps anyway).

As for what Best Buy has in stock, they have the Shure SE115s, but I've owned Shures before and found them uncomfortable for long-term use (I want to like the Klipsch's because they're very comfortable in comparison), dunno if the SE115s have improved in this area. They have the JVC Marshmallows, dunno if those are any good, as well as a whole array of Sonys, such as:

Extra Bass

"Ear Bud Headphones" (Sony, is it that ****ing hard to attach some model name that clarifies things more than "MDR XXX" so I know what the **** these things are supposed to do?)

The ever more descriptive More expensive "Ear Bud Headphones"

All of these are in stock at the store nearest my office.

:\ Why do you need to buy from best buy? Amazon would have a way better selection of non crappy stuff.
11-18-2009 , 02:44 PM
Amazon FTFW

Not to pile on, but I thought you couldn't take stuff back to Best Buy without like a 20% restock fee or something.
