Just got a sick deal on some Shure SCL4's for $75. They sound great once you pick the proper tips for the earbuds

FWIW I bought some Etymonic er 6i earbuds and like them a lot. Very good sound, great fit.

The reason I chose them is you don't have to loop the cord around your ear, which i've always thought was dumb.

Just did the same tho in Europe I paid about tree fidy.

After I ordered them with the iPhone adapter, I realized the plug they come with already fits the iPhone.... grrrr.

I just ordered mine but don't have an iMod cord or even an audio cord to hook it up. I'll report back, I'm using a pair of SE530's as well as some Grado RS-1's with CD's burned to itunes at 320kbps.

Carrying around a brick to amplify the signal from an iPod seems counter to the portable nature of the device IMHO

Cool kids make their own pocket amps..

I was a sucker and picked up some Skull Candy Headphones. My friends all rave about them, but sound quality just isn't there. Disappointing purchase for me.

If you want just a cheap set of earbuds, the JVC Marshmallows for $12 are the way to go. Are they super amazing? Nah. Are they damn good for $12? Yes.

Personally, I don't see the point of expensive earbuds. If I'm commuting to work or running, I want something that I don't mind destroying.

When I'm at home I prefer a comfortable set of regular headphones.

I'm listening to "Moby: Play" for the second time in a row right now, which is something I never do I have massive ADD. The punch (bass!!!) and accuracy of these things is amazing!

I was pretty nervous, because I have not particularly liked ANY headphones or semi-decent IEM's before, but the high resale value of these convinced me to try. BTW make sure you order the old yellow foamie inserts from Shure, MASSIVE increse in sound quality! Process detailed here in this great review. Oh and make sure to encode your music losslessly or at least at very high bitrate, huge difference with these they reveal everything!
i've had my SE530s for a little over a year now and love them, though i haven't tried the yellow foamie thing yet because their newest black foam is just so comfortable and better than the old grey ones already. will have to do a comparison though to make sure i'm not missing out on much.

also, just started ripping stuff as lossless and am pissed i didn't start doing it sooner. especially if you have headphones that cost this much money you're missing out if you don't do lossless

best headphones hands down sony 7509 http://www.proaudioreview.com/article/956

they sound good, get really loud, and isolate very well

best in ears are any ultimate ears molded in ears

they have 1,2 or 3 drivers and you have to go to an audiologist to get the moldings done ($700-2000 total cost)

http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimat...rearphones.php

also do not but from shure.

they are manufactured by Westonehttp://www.westone.com/

and if you buy from westone, you get them without the shure logo, but for 20% less
based on this recommendation i ordered a pair and they arrived yesterday. like the feel and the look. the sound is great. but i'm so used to listening on my SE530s that i'm going to have to get used to this for a while before i can make a good comparison.

re: sure/westone, i've had great experience with shure's costomer service (i stepped on my SE530s once and i had received a totally new set within the week even after i told them it was my fault), have you had good experience with westone service?

bringing up Bose on the internet will never end any thread. have you compared them with some of the other headphones from this thread, like the seinheiser or the sonys?

I use earbuds when travelling, so they live in my computer bag. This means they're constantly getting tangled up and eventually the cord breaks.

Are there any good cord management solutions for this problem? I have tried using these little re-closable tie-wrap type things but they are a pain in the ass and the cable still gets tangled up anyway.

Yes. Get a pair of headphones that have fabric cord insulators -- the Moda Vibes I mentioned earlier in the thread, for instance. They will hold up much better.
05-23-2009 , 03:39 PM
Wow, those vibes look pretty sweet. Durable cords are a big plus IMO and it comes with a cable-wrapper thingy and a large selection of earfoamies, pretty sweet package for $40 on ebay. Thanks for the recommendation, I will probably order those.

If anyone has been shoppin around for a while this may be a good time to pounce. Seems like a pretty good deal

I actually think my problem are my sleeves. I use the "olives" on my SE530s and I think they just muddy up the highs. I really want to get custom fit sleeves but am having a hard time finding a way to get them done.

rocking se110s now. super comfortable, though having to flip them upside down is kind of weird.
06-01-2009 , 03:14 PM
I ended up getting some Shure I2c-m from ebay. Some guy is selling them in OEM packaging for $22 shipping included. They don't come with the retail kit, which means no extra ear foam pieces or carry case or anything like that, you just get one set of rubbery bell-shaped thingies. These seem to be good for a one-size fits all solution and they are very comfortable and the sound is great. The rubber pieces are horrible at isolation, of course, but I think you can order the foamie things that do more isolation pretty cheaply.

I *think* these fit, but I'm not sure.

Klipsch S4s or some other sub-$100 set of canalphones? My years-old Shure e4cs just shat the bed and the stock iPod earbuds aren't cutting it.

CNet review with video (4.5 out of 5 stars)

was going to recommend getting the scl4's at GuitarCenter but it looks like they fixed their price mistake. They had them for $99.99 ($300MSRP/$200-250 retail).

the S4 imo outclasses other competitors at that pricepoint. They're a pretty obvious choice and I haven't found anyone looking for sub-$100 who dislikes them

didnt read the thread, anyways i just got the beats by dre headphones, bad idea?
06-06-2009 , 11:35 PM
Nothing really to add other than I bought the Plane Quiet Platinums for my upcoming transatlantic flight. So far they seem decent enough considering the price.
06-08-2009 , 07:27 AM
Bought a pair of Ultimate Ears Triple Fi.10 Pro's.

They sound awesome, but apparently my right ear is extremely small or something. I can't seem to get a 100% total fit. Any ideas? I've tried the smallest ones in the box.
