i just wanted to thank this thread

i got a pair of ultimate ears when they popped up on gottadeal about a year ago

tried all the different ear buds and couldn't find any that fit well enough to give me the sound i wanted. I barely used them and haven't touched them in 3 months.

i got thread a few pages and someone said that the bud had to be pushed in tight enough to create a really good seal.

apparently i'm ******ed and wouldn't just jam them into my ears properly. Got them back out, changed fitting and they sound 200% better than they did when i wasn't rockin them right.

stupid, but thanks.

Best earphones for live poker? Price isn't a big issue, but probably don't need the best of the best, as I simply need to upgrade from the standard ipod stock earphones (finally). Also, I don't listen to music too loud when playing, as I (sometimes) like to hear what's going on at the table and don't wanna be the guy that's constantly pressing pause and going, "What? how much?" etc. So, I'm not sure if noise-canceling would be the way to go, but then again I've never tried them, so suggestions welcome and needed. Thanks.

Contained in this RAR there are 4 WAV files. Original rip, MP3 320kbps CBR, MP3 VBR standard and MP3 128kbps CBR.

It's a fun challenge to see if you can tell which one is which.
NO CHEATING!

"MP3 VBR standard"? Huh? Is that V2 or V0?
12-29-2008 , 11:15 AM
--alt-preset standard
I guess that would be -V2?

Listened with Shure se310 on ****ty laptop Realtek HD audio (I'm rebuilding my DAC atm).

I think this particular piece of music is unsuitable for such a test. The music is a total mess ("is it a noise, a distortion or an instrument?") and the original recording doesn't sound great either.

Maybe when my normal system is back up, I'll be of a different opinion, I don't know.

I have a pair of AKG K271S, and I love them. FWIW, they're the first real headphones I've had, so I'm not tied to their particular sound. I just got an iPhone and I've been doing a fair bit of traveling, so I'd like a new pair. I've never had earbuds before, but I really want something super small for when I travel. I don't mind sound isloation, but I'm not dying for it. I'm going for super-portable, so I'm not going to use an amp. So far, it seems like the best iPhone earbuds in my price range are:

Sennheiser CX 500
V-Moda Vibe Duo
Etymotic hf2
Ultimate Ears Super.fi 4 (or 5) vi
Z.Buds
NuForce NE 7M

Any recommendations?

Grunching this thread... I read about 8 pages.

Today is a sad day since my Sennheiser HD580's just broke. The headband piece snapped in half... I guess after using it almost everyday for 2 years will do that but I have a few questions as to what to buy now. I think I'm going to switch to IEM's and I'm looking for some in the 75-150 ish range and I think I've decide to go with Etymotic ER 6 or E6 but am not set on it just yet...

My question is, will the Etymotic ER 4p need an amp or will they sound fine without one? Im trying to talk myself into spending more for them or any pair that is significantly better in sound quality without amp. Any suggestions?

Edit: also, what type of quality drop off, if any, should i expect from the HD580's to IEM's?

Yeah I own the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, love them. You won't regret it

Grunch

I bought these and they're AWESOME, my favourite out of all the headphones I've ever bought.

http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-ma...-ah-d1001k.php

Very light and comfortable, not too big, decent noise isolation, great sound and not too expensive. Got them for $95 on ebay.

I have

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro ( Squeeze my head too much and they're massive to wear on the go, otherwise great sound and isolation).

Shure E2cs (Could never get them to fit my ears properly and the wire over the ear kept wearing away)

Grado SR225s ( Awesome but no sound isolation)

If you care about your body find something with noise-canceling ability and deal with the lack of SQ. I'm 22 and have permanent hearing damage from using my Shure SE530s for about a year or so. I could never get the volume low enough on my iPod either. So yeah.

I'd like to create some mp3/wav tests of myself but I don't know what is allowed per copyrights and stuff.

Here are the best 2 'budget' optons I know of:

1. HotUSB1 - a custom created DAC from an enthusiast - $60
http://www.hotaudio.com/

Plug it into your usb port, plug your headphones into that. Done.

2. Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro - $30
http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/micro/home.aspx

Same deal, not as good quality, but cheap
Thanks for the link Z!

I just bid on the HotUSB1 on eBay. I read a bunch of the thread he posted about his own stuff, and he looks legit.

What about these for the iPhone?

http://www.zagg.com/audio/zbuds-ipho...FYwh3godQFFXDQ

It has a mic integrated which is quite useful for the phone.

Just as a PSA:

I had bought a pair of UE hi 5 pro's a while back, but never really liked them as much as my lesser priced shure's IEM's. I couldn't find the right fit with any of the buds that came with them, which wasn't a problem with the shure's. I just threw on the buds I always used with the shure's (the firm clear plastic ones) onto the UE's, and they fit onto the headphones perfectly, and completely transformed the sound into what I should have been hearing.

I can tell the difference between 192kbps and flac, but 95% of the time I can't when its encoded at 256kbps, and definatly not at 320kbps on my hd650's

I just recieved my Sennheiser HD585, tested them at the CES show last week does anyone else have these? and if so should I have paid less and got the noise cancelling ones?
