I have a pair of grado sr60s I got for $55 used off craigslist that sound good out of an ipod without an amp. They're open headphones though.
I'd recommend getting jvc ha-rx700s. They're about $40 shipped from buy.com or amazon or wherever, and I'm finding myself liking them more than my grados even though I have to admit the grados sound better. I just like the sound of the rx700s more and I'm probably more of a closed headphone person.
They get good reviews on the headfi forum, and if you don't like them, hey they were only $40. They're extremely huge so if portability or going out in public is a concern I'd definitely pass on both the sr60s and the rx700s.
If you do decide to get them give at least 40 hours to burn in. Just higher than regular listening volume is ok, you don't wanna turn the volume up too high. I didn't think they were anything great at first but I think around the 40 hr mark for me they opened up more. I think mine are still burning in and I'm finding myself liking them more and more.
<edit> Oh yeah I got mine from newegg.
