I am looking to part with my DT770P's and UE Superfi5 Pro's, so if anyone is interested please PM me.

I just ordered the Shure Se420-K in-ear headphones, with two drivers. Almost pulled the trigger on the 530s but the price was too much. Anyone have any experience with these?

From what I understand I'll never be able to get really good sound with canalphones so I don't want to spend too much given I have my HD555s for home use.
Well I picked up the 300s the other day and they're a bit heavy on the bass for me but they were cheap and they actually stay in my ear unlike regular earphones so I'm happy.

Also just skimmed through the thread, but I had been looking at some sennheiser.in ears. and found some on sale for $85 online, which was alot cheaper then I had so decided to grab em.

I am very impressed with them, and have already dropped one in a glass of water cause I is a moran, and they still work fine. Just wondering if these are decent somewhat higher end earbuds or did I waste money just for the name.

Got some Grado sr60s last week. It's my first nice set of headphones so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I really like them and they sound pretty sick on my ipod and puter.

I also bought some JVC HA-RX700s online for a bit under $40 shipped after tax (they're like $33 with free shipping on buy.com) just to have a decent set of closed headphones. I got them a few minutes ago and my first impression was that they suck, but I listened some more and they're actually pretty solid for the price imo. They sound way better than any of the other cheap headphones I used to own, and way better than the cheap headset I used to use up until a week ago. Obv I'll have to give them some time to break in too.

The JVCs get louder than the Grados on my computer, but the grados are loud enough for me without me fearing anymore hearing loss. The JVCs have more bass and are able to reproduce an open sounding sound stage well which is pretty impressive if you ask me considering that you can get these for under $40. They are also pretty huge but comfortable. You can search google for some actual pics.

I'd say if you're just looking for a set of cheap closed headphones that sound decent the HA-RX700s are good, but I like the SR60s better and would rather use those except that at night I'll have to switch. The SR60s are $79 but it's well worth the extra price imo. The only thing is it leaks sound since the cans are open instead of closed.

Thanks to the head-fi forum for pointing me in the right direction.

I just broke out my sr325s this afternoon for the first time in a long time, and I'd forgotten what a rich headphone they were.

in the market for some over the ear headphones to be used primarily during live poker.

the two i have found so far are the beyerdynamic DT 880

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

and the AKG K702

http://www.amazon.com/K702-Reference...9124575&sr=8-1

any suggestions for which is better, and if anyone has an alternative suggestions greatly appreciated.

Haven't listened to the beyer's, but the AKGs are a really really nice headphone.

One thing that's going to be really important about that setting is that you really don't want noise-bleed; I don't remember how the AKGs are, but I'm sure there's information out there. Your best bet would be to take your ipod or whatever to a decent audio store and just try out a bunch of things... quite a few higher end headphones will sound pretty poor if they're being plugged straight into an ipod and not an amplifier of some sort.

so far these are awesome...even came with a hard carrying case, a detachable volume controller, an airplane adapter, a stereo adapter and a bunch of different sized and ear pieces.

bought these for two upcoming flights. Got up early the day before my cpa exam and took my laptop to a Bread store for a early pastry and smoothie. Besides the complete full tilt boogie of the blender i felt that that I was in an almost cone of silience.

I also watched a DVD, From Hell with them on. I enjoyed the sound. I am definately not an audiophile, but I thought $256 was a deal.

Are the Bose QuietComfort 15's overpriced or well worth it?

Yes, no.

If you read this thread, there is extensive discussion about everything made by Bose and tons of recommendations in all different price ranges for what to get instead of them.

I skimmed the thread a bit and am a bit overwhelmed. I almost bought the Shure e530 but I can't seem to pull the trigger yet.

I'm looking to buy some new earbuds and price isn't that big of an issue (willing to spend up to like $200 for something super quality). Basically what I'm looking for is something that will allow me to drown out any outside sound and let me be "in my own world" listening to music when I go play 1/2 and 2/5 casino poker against old donks stoned out of my mind. Comfort, sound quality and sound isolation is very important here.

This is probably a dumb question, but are the Shure e530 (I can get them currently on amazon for $275 + shipping) really that much better than a different set of earbuds in the $75-150 price range? I have literally no experience with headphones/earbuds other than the standard sets one receives packaged with an Ipod and typically sold at the local Walmart, so a mid-range set may just blow me away from what I'm already used to.

So what are the best earbuds around the $75-150 price? Is there that large of a difference between the Shure e420, Shure e310, and Shure e210 compared to the Shure e530? Am I just being dumb for not already semi-splurging on the e530s? What is the advantage of having the e530PTH over the standard e530 set?

Thanks in advance.

I am looking for headphones to my ipod. I am willing to spend up to 80$. Any recommendations?

Skimmed through the pages and it seems to me that the Sennhieser 280 pro's are a great buy for the price. I am also wondering about the Shure SRH440.

I am looking to spend around $100 maybe a little more, I mostly use when I fly so something good for that would be great.

Anyone have experience with or thoughts on the Denon noise-canceling headphones? Especially as compared to the Audio Technica? I assume Bose is a non-starter based on earlier posts in this thread.

I have a pair of grado sr60s I got for $55 used off craigslist that sound good out of an ipod without an amp. They're open headphones though.

I'd recommend getting jvc ha-rx700s. They're about $40 shipped from buy.com or amazon or wherever, and I'm finding myself liking them more than my grados even though I have to admit the grados sound better. I just like the sound of the rx700s more and I'm probably more of a closed headphone person.

They get good reviews on the headfi forum, and if you don't like them, hey they were only $40. They're extremely huge so if portability or going out in public is a concern I'd definitely pass on both the sr60s and the rx700s.

If you do decide to get them give at least 40 hours to burn in. Just higher than regular listening volume is ok, you don't wanna turn the volume up too high. I didn't think they were anything great at first but I think around the 40 hr mark for me they opened up more. I think mine are still burning in and I'm finding myself liking them more and more.

<edit> Oh yeah I got mine from newegg.

I just got the Westone umx3 earphones. Obviously the sound quality is great, but for people looking at buying something like this, there're a few other things to bear in mind...

They're great, but really hard to actually get in. It takes me literally a minute to put them on every time, kind of annoying. It took me six months to get used to my last set (Etymotic ER4) until I could wear them all day without headaches, kind of a pain to aclimatise myself to something new, particularly as these fit the entire ear instead of just the canal.

They do look vaguely insectile though, which is pretty cool

have had a pair of Bose QC2's for like 2 years. the speakers in the headphones still work perfectly, but the foam stuff around the ears is starting to come out. basically all the black leather/foam around the ears is falling apart. do i have to buy a whole new pair of headphones or is there some way to fix this?
09-09-2009 , 05:51 PM
sinner with lots of headphones you can just get new pads.

I just bought a pair of shure sr840s which are getting good reviews on headfi forums. They're really hard to find right now, but I found them in stock at guitar center for 200 which I price matched to 150. I love them right now. I tried the atm-50s first which are 160 new but I've heard that GC will sell them at 100 and if not they're on ebay new for $80-90. They sounded really good to me but then I tried the sr840s and they were clearly better. I ordered a zero amp/dac from ebay last night too.

I am looking for a set of noise canceling headphones. I know the Bose QC series are pretty much shunned on this forum, and they are also a little bit more expensive than I would like.

I am looking for a light, noise canceling (airplane, loud rooms), over the ear headphone that isn't ridiculously huge and is in the <~200 price range. I saw some recommendations for the Sennheiser HD-280.. is this still a good set to go with? Any other recommendations?

Thanks

Cliffnotes: hd280 work well but can be uncomfortable because of the clamping effect. Direct Sound EX29 isolate better.

http://www.amazon.com/Direct-Sound-E.../dp/B0002GZLY2

The first review by audioaddict on the amazon page is pretty insightful. He compares the qc, hd280, and ex29.

Also these get good reviews and they don't look as hideous as the ex29s: http://www.buy.com/prod/able-planet-...207682303.html

Oh and I've heard the QC are ok for planes if you can find them for a decent price. I think people just hate them because they're overpriced and the sound quality isn't as good as other stuff for half the price.

Kinda random and it hasn't EXACTLY been posted so here goes:
I want to get new earbuds. My main concern is their "lasting" quality. FWIW, I think the sound of ipod buds is just fine, so if that is the only argument against a pair, it doesn't make much of a difference to me - although obviously a step up would be nice. Between the PVC marshmallow and SC Ink'd which is a better choice? Or are there any other good options in that price range I should look into?
