**** everything forever. Jesus Christ.

Cerrone gonna end up taking it. Whatever fun enough but ****
02-23-2016 , 09:34 AM
Damn!

What the hell can they even do now? A none-title fight between Conor and Diaz? Surely he cannot cut down to 145lbs to fight Frankie or Aldo from where he is now?
02-23-2016 , 09:37 AM
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

you guys are crazy imo if you think conor is fighting someone else in the meantime
02-23-2016 , 09:39 AM
If they could somehow get Pettis in there, I'd call it an even trade even trade as far as entertainment in matching up. He took very little damage in his last fight, and the striking match between the two is almost guaranteed to be a fight of the night. Passed that there's several far less glorious but still interesting options, and given the massive Conor hype, I'm sure most fighters would accept the Mendes stigma.

Diaz and Cowboy are locks to take it if offered. Maybe Khabib, but he's likely not getting the offer. Tony would be awesome, but he doesn't have enough juice, I think. Plus, it's probably too close to the fight to try a FW match-up (poor Frankie). The biggest problem, IMO, is the lack of a belt really makes it not very worth the risk for Conor. So I'm guessing they make an inter-rim LW title for him.
02-23-2016 , 09:39 AM
Frankie can't fight due to injury. Cerrone diaz are primary options. Really doubt it'll be a 145er fighting unless the ufc gives conor all of the money to make a drastic cut and fight for his belt (unless they are coming up to 155 to fight him).

It's gotta end up being cerrone though.
02-23-2016 , 09:41 AM
it's a complete and total reverse freeroll for him to fight anybody else in the LW division while hes set for a title shot against RDA

what happens if he loses?
02-23-2016 , 09:46 AM
i) Can Cerrone make 155?
ii) Big risk for Conor. If he loses against Cerrone/Diaz it takes the lustre off him much more than a loss to RDA.
iii) UFC needs to put a LW contender type make on the same card as a LW title fight. Some combo of Ferguson/Khabib/Diaz.
iv) Fighters should stay in shape 'just in case' when there's a huge fight like this scheduled. Diaz should be in fighting shape.
v) Really love Cerrone. Willingness to fight anyone anywhere is probably my #1 criteria for liking a fighter. Obviously it's a little bit different when you're guaranteed a paycheck like headlining v. Conor.
vi) Will Holm-Tate now headline? Seems like Conor would but wouldn't they have to make an interim title fight to justify it headlining? Aldo didn't defend much but RDA did two months ago so an interim title makes little sporting sense. If they push Conor-RDA back it would be to UFC 200 otherwise Conor doesn't have enough time to fight RDA & fight at UFC 200.

i wanna cry

this ****s up everything

probably forces mcgregor to let go of the FW belt or force him to go back there and forget the WW belt dream for a while

If Cowboy can make the fight then I think that is the only decent option for all parties. He is a big enough name with a bit of history with Conor so they can sell the fight, but really he is not much of a threat and Conor will most likely destroy him in 1 round.
02-23-2016 , 10:22 AM
I think McGregor will want to fight anyway. He has absolute conviction in his thoughts and truly believes no one can beat him. I have no doubt he would take a fight against Cerrone or Diaz on short notice.
02-23-2016 , 10:43 AM
McGregor's smartest play, IMO, is a fight with Cerrone while demanding some form of monetary compensation for the switch. It's also a legitimately fair move. His hype is big enough to have most people write off Cerrone as an easy win, so he's risking more for far less reward.

ActionJeff,

Yeah, pretty remarkable. The most interesting part was Mir saying he'd never been triangled, even as a white belt, until he rolled with Maia.
02-23-2016 , 11:09 AM
Let cerrone make big $$$$$ for once. 75/75 while stepping up against anyone even on short notice is lol.
02-23-2016 , 11:37 AM
Monetary compensation for Conor??? He is getting a share of ppv. He will lose millions fighting now regardless.
02-23-2016 , 11:55 AM
If I'm this devostated I can only imagine how Dana felt when he got that call...
02-23-2016 , 11:56 AM
The one time a superfight was actually happening
Agree it's a reverse freeroll now but gonna fight cowboy anyway imo.

extra compensation for the change. I doubt the PPV buy rate changes all that much so long as they get someone marginally relevant in there, but a lot is being asked of him to fight somebody other than RDA at this point. A temp bump in his PPV cut, or a flat cash bonus or something is completely fair of him to demand, IMO.

Conor fighting for the lightweight title will have 100ks more view than vs Nate Diaz. They would have to give him 3 million for it to be fair given that losing to a nobody costs his career so much.
02-23-2016 , 01:09 PM
Can they not just push the fight out a month and make Holm vs. Meisha the Headliner

maybe have Cerrone fight again at 170 lol

Wonder how he broke his foot?

Coach said he did it kicking in sparing. Kicked partner in the knee
02-23-2016 , 01:51 PM
Khabib offered to take fight, ufc said no, according to Kevin iole. So it sounds like Pettis diaz and cowboy are only remaining possibilities and at least pettis and cowboy have offered to take it. And nate just tweeted 30s ago that he'll have to get on his knees and beg.
02-23-2016 , 01:52 PM
Wow what a thing to wake up to. So tilt.

As for Conor fighting, I really didn't think they'd have him fight at ufc 189 after Aldo pulled out. They invested more into Aldo vs Conor than any fight ever, and yet they still let him fight Mendes on short notice. So while it seems like a gamble, I wouldn't be too shocked if he fought someone else. Cerrone fight would be lackluster for me, he hasn't looked very good lately. Should of lost to bendo, starched by RDA, and was losing to other cowboy till the takedown.

Conor vs Nate would be the best. Epic trash talking, and it'd be a great fight. Some people think it'd be an easy win for Conor but I disagree. The people who beat Diaz bro's are really good at two things, leg kicks and offensive grappling. Conor is good at neither. I think it'd be an epic boxing match with two great chins and cardio and if it hits the floor Conors in big trouble.

Conor vs Pettis would also be fantastic.
02-23-2016 , 01:55 PM
Fighting any LW at WW would be a decent option as it wouldn't muck up a LW title shot down the road for Conor, and gives the opponent an easy short notice weight cut.

Stim,

Nate has 3 take-downs in the last 6 years. This isn't likely to end up on the ground, and Conor has a high level kicking game. That he hasn't utilized leg kicks doesn't mean he won't when Nate plants that leg out there waiting to be attacked. I wouldn't be surprised to see Conor land endless body kicks (with some leg kicks) to Nate as he plods forward. Also, RDA didn't starch Cerrone. He did immediately overwhelm him, though.
