Re: EDF Wet Shaving Thread
FWIW I use the Art of Shaving pre-shave oil, cream and post-shave balm with a Merkur razor and Derby razor blades. The most expensive part of the whole thing for me is the pre-shave oil. It definitely runs out the fastest. $22 plus s/h for a 2 oz. bottle that might last me six weeks if I stretch it. But it really helps me. I have a coarse beard that grows fast, and the oil makes my shave much smoother. After running out of oil a couple days ago, I found out how to make my own for a lot cheaper.

2 parts castor oil, 1 part olive oil, and 6-7 drops of essential oil for fragrance (I use sandalwood). Pour all that into a small container and shake vigorously. You can find all three ingredients at Sunflower or any Whole Foods-type store, I imagine. The castor oil cost me $10 for an 8 oz. bottle...could have gotten more, but I wanted to see how it went first. Essential oil cost me $10 for 1 oz., but you only need drops at a time. The blend works just as well as the bought stuff, and I figure it's about 1/8th the cost. I'm sure you can fine-tune the ratios to make it thinner or thicker.
Might have to check out the Nancy Boy products. I got turned onto Art of Shaving after having my first straight razor shave at the Mandalay Bay location. My wife loved it so much that I bought the whole kit.

Re: EDF Wet Shaving Thread
Scottie I think the Art of Shaving stuff in general is pretty good but often overpriced- especially any equipment, they mark it up a TON.
I found their pre-shave oil to be way to viscous, it gummed things up for me. Truefitt & Hill's pre-shave is fantastic, but costs an arm and a leg. As noted about, I use Feather's pre-shave conditioner - put some on my face and also mix some into the lather before I apply. Helps with the shave and also makes my skin soft as a baby's bottom. And I have a baby right here, trust me his ass is SOFT.

Re: EDF Wet Shaving Thread
So my Truefit & Hill shaving cream is nearly gone. I need some suggestions for something to get that I can use with my brush. Should I get a cup or bowl, too? I've been mixing in my hand.

Moss Scuttle. Love mine. Fill it full of hot water before I shower, dump and refill while I brush my teeth, fill and mix up later & then let it sit while I do my pre-shave oiling. Nice warm later waiting for me, and it stays warm for my second pass.

Re: EDF Wet Shaving Thread
Badgers? Badgers? We don't need no stinking Badgers!
But actually we do. I'm thinking of spending some money on a new brush. This appears to be one of those items on which one can spend as much as one wants. I don't really care what I spend, but I'd like this to be my brush for a long, long time.
I like the cut of the Rooney brushes' collective jibs, I think.
Is there really that much of a difference between a $100 and $400 brush?

Re: EDF Wet Shaving Thread
Once you get over $100, the difference in quality gets negligible. I'd spring for a Rooney myself, but I have a pretty good brush now.
Sign of the Apocalypse: Procter and Gamble bought Art of Shaving.

I really prefer very small brushes to large ones. There's a lot more tactile feedback and you can get some lather by your ear without flooding your ear canal with shaving cream.
I'd go for a tiny, high quality brush. Also, consider synthetic too, they're quite good now.

Re: EDF Wet Shaving Thread
Sorry to bump this, but I want to ask a couple questions and im pretty clueless.
My facial hair is starting to fill in more, and get more grown in. I have tried to use disposible razors like the Bic ones, and I cut my self, or it just doesnt go right. maybe cuz im using soap in the shower, and not like shaving cream, i just dont know.
I have a braun electric razor, which works good, it just isnt getting close anymore, since my hairs are getting more "adult".
Should I use a different electric razor, or what?
What do you all recommend.

Re: EDF Wet Shaving Thread
I always wet shave. Mach 3 is my favourite razor because the hair rinses away more easily than other razors i've tried. I currently the gilette range at the moment for other shaving products.

Re: EDF Wet Shaving Thread
Had no intention of buying a razor today, but read this thread and had to order a Merkur 38C and some Derby blades. Hope it's an improvement on my Quattro

You will need a good setup:
Razor
Blades
Brush
Cream
This is all from West Coast Shaving (in which I have no affiliate interest, but is a highly regarded merchant), will run about 50 bucks plus shipping. You could go for a higher-end brush or cream and get free shipping for an 80 dollar order.
If you've read the thread you will see reference to Badger and Blade wet shaving forum. Read the stickies in the various rooms for how-to info, or post in the Newbie room and the guys will be happy to give you tips.
Your shaving experience will improve, and so will your skin. Wet shaving helped clear my skin, and I'm in my 40's
Good luck.

Re: EDF Wet Shaving Thread
Got my Merkur 38C and Derby blades a few days ago in the mail, and bought some Proraso pre and shaving cream to go with it. Took a few rounds to start getting the hang of it but what a difference from using a Quattro and regular shaving cream. Looking into getting a decent brush now, maybe the Vulfix 662S Super. And who knows maybe a Dovo straight is in the cards one of these days
