Well he def used a Nate blueprint from 1st Conor fight. Would love to see that fight.

Holloway still gets hit though, McGregor has too much power at lower weights imo

Does Holloway have good takedowns?

He was walking through Conors punches pretty easily in the first fight. Conor won via takedowns but Holloways TDD is like 100 times better now.

o.O lol ill have to rewatch that

Really weird that Aldo threw 0 leg kicks, especially considering max seems susceptible to them.
06-04-2017 , 07:49 AM
Edgar has to be really happy, he should get the next title shot.

When Aldo got dropped, it was like Gandalf getting killed by the Balrog. I really hate how emotionally invested I get in some fighters.

Stim,

I thought the same thing. He only threw one leg kick the entire fight, and this is the first in a while where he legitimately didn't have to worry about TD attempts.

Most interesting point of the fight for me was coming out of the corner to start round three Max's corner told him it was time to choke him out which is wild to me that they think he can just dominate Aldo on the ground like that but Max's cardio is elite.

Conor's knee blew out in the fight with Holloway. It's why he shot for the takedown. Max is still a big dog to Conor. No-one has really ****ed with his head. He will often crumble under the psychological warfare.

Max seems way too dumb/confident to buy into any of Conor's head games

Let's be real tho. Conor isn't coming back to fight Max.

Couple things.

Max broke his foot in the first kick of the fight. Conor didn't injure his ACL till the 2nd round, and Max ate all of Conors best punches without ever being rocked in that first round. 14 of Conors 18 tkos come in the first round. He already starts to fade after that.

Now max has improved tremendously since then, he was 20 years old and coming off a loss.

I think Holloways combo of insane chin + cardio & pressure is very similar to Diaz. Except he's faster and more mobile than Diaz. Though much less reach.

If you watch the first round of Conor vs Max, Max eats a few perfect left hands and doesn't even flinch. Boys chin is just insane.

max could absolutely beat conor, unfortunately he'll never get to try again

Just makes me more and more upset. So many amazing fights for Conor in MMA and we might not see any of them .

Why do we think Aldo gassed by the 2nd round? He did look bigger, maybe bad weight cut? I guess you could say because Max started to pressure, but he went 5 rounds with Frankie trying to pressure constantly.

Yeah at this point connor vs mayweather even at the start when it was super unlikely had more chances to happen than connor going down for Holloway now.

All - how do you see Max v. Frankie?

Kind of hard to predict, all depends on max's TDD. It has improved an insane amount since his early UFC fights, but still the only decent wrestler to test it has been Lamas who isn't even close to Frankies level.

I see either Frankie gets a few takedowns and it's a close fight, or he doesn't get any and it isn't very close at all.

Should be great though, pretty excited.

I like both fighters, but Frankies one of my favorites. Would be amazing to see him become a 2 division champ. Maybe then he could be convinced to drop to 135 and become first 3 division champ ever.

Did Aldo really gas or did he just get touched on the button? I mean he slowed down obv but I didn't think he was tanked. To me the question with him is his chin at this point, and I wonder if being slept by Conor is what did it.

I am pretty impressed with Holloway for sure, his chin is crazy and he really finds his range and rhythm.

All of that said, while the fight should have been stopped without a doubt based on the rules but it was one of those finishes that had it happened closer to the bell he would have survived. Honestly, if the ref let it go for the rest of the round Aldo had a chance to survive it. Again, good stoppage based on taking blow after unanswered blow, I just am not sure he was really doing much other than boxing his ears at the end. I don't really like those stoppages. When the ref steps in because a dude is not able to keep himself from getting hurt that is one thing, but I don't like that when someone is turtles up the aggressor has the choice to either go for a an actual finish or pitterpat and look at the ref. If there is not real damage being done then it should be up to the fighter to tap or his corner to throw the towel in that situation.

Full disclosure--I have no idea if I'm right about this at all but the best way to get an answer is post an opinion, not ask the question.

It's definitely an exciting match up and I hope they can put it together quickly.

I definitely think Aldo was pretty darn gassed. At the end of round 2 Holloway stood right in front of him with his hands up and Aldo did nothing. I even made a comment being worried after the 2nd. Then in the 3rd round he was super flat footed breathing with his mouth wide open ( this makes it easier for you to get ko'd ) and was super slow. He didn't even try to get out of the way after he threw his counter on Holloway. Even if he hadn't got KO'd I felt it was the beginning of the end for him anyways, Holloway was gonna put a pace on him and break him eventually. Also if Aldo hadn't been so tired I think he possibly could have recovered.

I'm thinking maybe going hard in the 1st and putting everything into his shots trying to finish Holloway might have gassed him faster than normal.

I'm going to rewatch it. My bias for Aldo had me missing all of that at the time. I saw Holloway warming up and Aldo slowing a little, but I didn't see the apparent significant fall off of Aldo.
06-04-2017 , 10:41 PM
IMO, Aldo looked tired from the beginning.
