By all accounts, Faber is a great guy. Him and the rest of Alpha Male are more bro than douche, but there's significant cross-over so they're often one in the same. I don't blame anybody for conflating the two, however. It's often difficult to separate them:

I think you all are not taking into account just how strong of a bond people make when they train combat sports together. Alpha Male goes even farther, though, and is essentially their own Bro community. I believe they all even live next to each-other. So when one of the younger guys who started their career with Alpha Male ends up ghosting on them, I can see how it'd be taken personally. Ultimately, I think it's more about the manner in which TJ left, than the fact he left that caused the problem. It started with him pretending to only train with Duane intermittently, then he just kinda slunk away. Faber even defended TJ against criticism for this before it became clear that TJ wasn't intending to stay with Alpha Male at all.

If he had simply be open about his feelings and intentions when Duane first left, I doubt there'd be such fallout.

EDIT:

One more thing. I think TJ is good at retaining an on camera persona. Cruz mentioned once how TJ was ranting and cursing at him while the camera wasn't on, then switching over to the polite pro athlete when the the cameras started rolling.

He has also been accused of being a hot head in the gym, something he's admitted himself, and there's been several people who said he had a history of blasting newbies.

I dunno I've trained, I have several extremely close friendships. If one of my friends was offered a much better opportunity I'd be support happy for him and support it. TJ going to train with muscle pharm meant he'd be getting paid instead of paying TAM, more sponsorship's etc. It's obviously the best move for his family, how could you not support that?

And from what I gathered TJ didn't ghost him. TJ told Faber he wanted to train at both but he'd obv be repping his new gym because they were paying him ( and obv he didn't wanna pay TAM a percentage of his purse anymore ) and Faber told him no so he said **** it and left TAM. Regardless of how it went down, accusing your friend of using PEDs and throwing his name in the dirt constantly for something petty like not telling you right away he wanted to train with Duane is scummy. Yeah it's pretty weak from TJ but you really gonna **** all over a friend constantly for that? You're a grown ass man, get over it. It's some high school **** imo.

Also Faber accused TJ of using PEDs soon after he left. Also when he was on the MMA hour he blasted TJ for being a bad friend and teammate. That's why I think he's kinda scummy. I'd never do that kinda stuff to a friend unless they did some real awful **** like try and bang my girl or something.

Also I feel like if TJ did in fact keep his intentions quite for a long time, it's probably because he knew TAM would freak out about it and act like a bunch of douches. It's like when you know your GF is gonna over react to some stupid stuff so you put off telling her lol.

Or putting off telling your gf something when you know you ****ed up.

The level of loyalty people choose to observe is personal. Ronda is an example of why it can be terrible to be too loyal. That said, it is not strange for Uriah to feel like he got ****ed when everyone in his gym was living a narrative that they were all hyper invested in each other's goals, and as soon as tj reaches the goal, and the payoff, he leaves and takes the spoils with him to a guy who there is bad blood with. Then Ludwig enjoys the rep, promotion, and the credit for the belt.
05-25-2017 , 06:43 PM
I guess that's true to a certain degree. I dunno I don't require loyalty from my friends, I just want them to be happy and have the best lives possible. For example I let my brother in law live with me for free for awhile. Soon after he got a job and moved out and then got a girlfriend who hated my friend group so he didn't even talk to me for like a year. I didn't hate him for it, I told him be happy and I'll always be here. They broke up and now we cool again.

Obviously their situation is something none of us have experienced. But I still can't get over the accusing him of steroids stuff and basically going on a huge slander campaign afterwards. That's awful imo regardless of whether they felt their loyalty was betrayed.

I know TUF is irrelevant now but it's still the best season in forever.

Did anyone else see the one of the worst stoppages of all time last fight?

seemed fine to me esp since spitting out his mouth piece seemed like a means of trying to get the ref to stop the action while he was getting pummeled from a mounted position

Ha what a coincidence it happened to Let me bang Bro

It was a bad stoppage, but he was also in a lot of trouble. Probs gets saved by the bell and we get an interesting 2nd round tho.

Also begs the question who even won the first round if its not stopped.

He said after he was trying to tell the ref he was fine and got nailed in the mouth as he said it, but that he was ok. Seems about right.

In real time it looked like he was getting KOd tho.

id have to watch again but feels a little fishy as he didnt look fine n didnt seem all that upset when it was stopped. most fighters would have lost their minds if they were yelling im fine im fine

I've heard a bunch of people say this, but also that it has (i think?) the worst ratings so far of any season.

True, "Let me bang bro" seemed suspiciously fine with the stoppage afterwards. He was telling his team he didn't want it stopped, but who knows?

Idk, maybe I'm used to fighters having to get the lights completely turned off before giving up.

Yea, it's a weird time. ex. UFC 211 was sick and didn't do good numbers.

Meh... all these fancy aggro gyms got nothing on Mom.

It seemed like a decent stoppage to me.

And also in the interview after the fight didn't he say something like he had nothing left in his arms, probably from squeezing the guillotine for so long. So he most likely would have just taken a beat down next round not being able to fight back or defend.

Surprised mine is the first post about this considering it broke a while ago today, but Roy Nelson just signed to Bellator. Thats a lot of top tier talent just walking out the door!

Dude was a corpse and I'm a fan. Good place for him to not die.

Good time for my all time fave Roy story. On TUF Roys a coach and his fighter wins a fight. Afterwards he goes up to Dana and in hushed tones explains that his fighter might have actually been a half pound over weight.

Instantly Dana says why are you telling me this, shut the **** up. Then cut to a talking head of Dana saying I swear to God he's the dumbest person of all time.
05-27-2017 , 03:54 PM
Nah, he was saying that's why his guy lost.

That's why Dana said something in his confessional to the effect of, "You had your chance to say something when they were both on the scale."

Quote:
Upon reviewing the fight, a frustrated Roy complains that Julian didn’t control the Octagon and let Bristol control the range. He adds that anytime they had a wild exchange, Julian won. Dana is similarly frustrated that Bristol didn’t push for the finish after hurting Julian with leg kicks.

Carwin, ever the perfectionist, wished Bristol had clinched more in the second round.

After the fight, Nelson chose this moment to approach Dana about Bristol potentially not making weight. A strange series of events. Unsurprisingly, Dana doesn't have much in the way of sympathy for his cause, saying that Nelson should have said something at the time. It is, after all, Nelson’s job as a coach to speak up.

"You can’t fix stupid," Dana assesses, in his uniquely diplomatic fashion.
