Good for Bisping, he should do what he can to fight GSP.

I actually feel like he beats Romero however it's clear he as more chance of winning against GSP and that would be his more lucrative option.

People like to give Bisping stick but there is not 1 single person on this planet who would agree to fight Romero for less money than you could get for fighting someone else who is way less likely to cause you long term damage.

For some reason the MMAWeekly article won't link properly so here's the reddit link to the thread

“Me vs. Vitor Belfort in Brazil in January should be for the Interim Middleweight Title,” Bisping wrote in a Thanksgiving message to his fans this week. “With (Chris) Weidman out, I think me vs Vitor is a worthy Interim Title fight. Way more worthy than Urijah Favor’s 2354987th title shot and, and I would defend my Interim Title against all-comers and keep the division moving.”
Quote:
“As it stands, the middleweight division’s champion has no plans whatsoever to defend his belt until at least the end of next summer.”
Quote:
“Or GSP could win or Anderson get hurt… the fight could even be moved to mid-summer for venue reasons… a million things could happen even when we get to May. Meanwhile, the middleweight division is in a complete holding pattern.”

pissy,

The problem isn't Bisping, it's the UFC allowing fighters to conduct themselves like this. Fighters should always seek the best financial outcomes for themselves, but it's the promotion's job to retain the integrity of the division and the belt. If a champion is not going to fight number 1 contenders, there's no point in having a belt in the first place, and fans get an added bonus of a diminished product. The UFC monopoly has a serious benefit in that it, used to, match up the best with the best. That is something boxing doesn't have and is worse off for it. UFC is now heading that direction, with fans and fighters justifiably complaining.

I haven't really researched it but I saw some articles claiming stuff like this

http://mmapayout.com/category/promot...fa/zuffa-sale/

Quote:
As outlined by a Moody’s report in July, there are “earn-outs” if performance goals are met over the next two year. The new owners could make an additional $250 million if it meets EBITDA goals. According to the Moody’s report, it will receive a $175 payment upon the achievement of $275 million in EBITDA (but not earlier than June 30, 2017) and $75 million payable upon achieving $350 million of EBITDA (but not earlier than December 31, 2018).
With the employee layoffs, the previous payroll of $55.4 million will be cut by $27 million. The new owners did not acquire the corporate airplane used by Dana White, et al. It also indicated that it would “increase standardization and more rigorous corporate discipline, namely in “compensation practices, (travel and expense) policies…” It will also cut the budget for “The Ultimate Fighter.” The show’s production budget will be cut from $27.6 million to $10 million per the document obtained by Junkie.
Payout Perspective:
It was expected that there would be cost-cutting upon the new owners taking over. With the news that the owners would receive a bonus upon meeting EBITDA expectations over the next two years, the cuts are more glaring than one might expect. The news likely means that any chances of significant raises for fighters will likely not happen. Moreover, with more “corporate discipline” it’s unlikely that the company will take on significant extravagances. The news of cuts with “The Ultimate Fighter” likely means the show will not have international TUF’s although I would expect the show to continue since it does provide content for FS1.

Stim,

Thanks, interesting structure. In the short term these guys are definitely highly incentivized to cut costs.

Really this deal seems to come down to the next round of tv licensing fees. They get a good deal for that, UFC will be positioned for success. If that's lower than they're aiming for, then who knows what fallout we'll see from that.

I think their recent bad ratings will definitely affect any new tv licensing deals in a big way.

New weight cutting regulations in CSAC, wonder if other states will implement this as well.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/CSA...lations-121497

Quote:
The California State Athletic Commission unanimously passed a 10-point plan on Tuesday in hopes of combatting extreme weight cutting in mixed martial arts.

Included in the new regulations are larger fines for missing weight, the introduction of more weight classes and weight checks on fight day. MMAFighting.com was the first to report the new regulations.

The plan will officially take effect on June 15 and will be in place for the next major event in the state, UFC 214, which is set for Anaheim on July 29. That card is headlined by a light heavyweight championship rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.

Some of the key components of the 10-point plan include:

• A 20-percent fine on a fighter’s win bonus — as well as the show purse — for missing weight

• The addition of 165-, 175-, 195- and 225-pound weight classes and licensing by weight class for fighters

• Weight class restrictions for fighters missing weight more than once

• A second weight check on the day of the event “to ensure fighters have not gained more than 10 percent of their body weight back in the 30 hours between the official weigh-in and the event.” If a fighter gains back more than 10 percent of his or her body weight, they will be recommended to move up a weight class for their next bout.

• The implementation 30-day and 10-day weight check for “advertised high-level title fights.”

According to the MMAFighting.com report, the UFC, Bellator MMA and Invicta FC all wrote letters in support of the new weight-cutting plan prior to the CSAC meeting. However, in the case of the new weight classes, it is not mandatory that any of the promotions add more divisions.

The full 10-point plan, listed on the CSAC agenda as item No. 8, can be viewed here

Cormier gonna have to lay off the popeyes

New weight regulations Tl;dr-Cormier vs jones off.
05-19-2017 , 04:12 PM
I bet the rules definitely got DC worried AF. Though technically as long as he makes weight worst that will happen is recommendation he moves up weight classes. Unless for the first time in his career he decides not to be a fatty.

Dana said if Bisping is injured

Romero vs Whittaker for Interim, and that GSP will be fighting for the WW belt when he returns.

Woodley finna have some knee problems too lol.

Romero vs Whittaker is dope, but it really irritates me when champs sit out and make the contenders eliminate each other.

Interesting thread from Shane Carwin showing how much he made back in the day for the Bock Lesnar fight - both from UFC and sponsors

https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comment...e_are_popular/

I think it might be old news to talk about the economics of my era because the times have changed.
Here is what I recall for Lesnar Fight.
Bout Agreement - 40/40
Contractual Bonus - I forget the amount under $65 over $30 for every fight.
Bonus from Lorenzo and Dana 1.25 million dollars
Bud Light 90,000 (+so much beer they got concerned)
Dethrone 4,000 a mo
NightRider 1,000 + sales a mo
Max Muscle (not featured) 6,500 a mo
Malibu Boats 3000 a month plus 3 $100,000 boats
Good4U Drinks 3000 a month plus 20,000 for the title
Warrior Wear 4000 a month (short sponsor) 20,000 title
Blow Out Cards - 15,000
The Gun Store 10,000?
MTX Audio 15,000?
One of my managers post on here he can add in the details.
a few of the sponsorships were just smaller people jumping on that night.
I went 8-0 all KO's in the first round and made about $30,000 in sponsorships ALL IN.
I went 2-2 and made a boat load (pun intended)
I made well over $2 million dollars and most of it losing fights and belts. Thank God for great management.

Schaub talked about that night before on JRE

05-19-2017 , 08:12 PM
I still like the theory that sparring with Carwin is why Schaub had a glass chin. Carwin is an amazing human being and Schaub is the worst.

I mean, getting blasted in the head on a daily basis by a gorilla can't be good for anybody's health....

Stim,

Woodley definitely wants a GSP fight. Hell, he offered to step in against Bisping. He crushes Georges, IMO. Also, a Middleweight Interim belt is a nice move. Forces Bisping to finally face a contender.

Yeah, going to be a banger. Bud Crawford just beat someone up last week as well. He and Spence are on a collision course as they new guard at 147 in the next year or so

Hot damn that card is sweet.

Yea great card. Usually hate WMMA headlining but that's a good fight so it's all good.

Yoel vs Whittaker is dope. If Whittaker is able to win... that'd be a sick rise, most people didn't give him much of a chance against Jacare but he looked amazing. That boxing is sweet, especially for a bigger guy. Really like both of them a lot. Hard fight to predict as well.
