Had a nightmare that Anderson Silva broke his ankle and wouldn't be able to lose on the 7th.

that would be just so tragic

they already pulled faber/barao as the co main so that it can headline the montreal card

that card has gotten devastated with injuries.

Re: EDF MMA/lutte fil Juin 2012

The amount of injuries on UFC cards over the last year has been ridiculous, but is there any way round it? A fighter who fights injured has more to lose than he does if he just postpones his bout, and guys are just too good and there's too much at stake these days to train at anything less than 100% and risk those injuries.

What's the solution?

Dana was talking about this recently. It was suggested to him that fighters have more incentive to pull out with minor injuries now, knowing that a loss in the UFC can be really significant, whereas before there was less top competition so many would just fight injured.

He said he doesn't believe that since they all want to get paid and if you don't fight you don't make money and they're just going to have to tone it down in training.

Same interview apparently the meeting he had with Brock was the worst meeting ever, so I guess that means Brock said he'll come back for $10million and a title shot, and Lorenzo lol'd at him.

If everyone didn't do PED's, they wouldn't be able to overtrain beyond their tendons and ligaments capacity to recover.

Don't they also get paid now at least a little something when they get hurt now too?

I'd like to see a cite because I really doubt that's the case. Even so, PED's significantly help with recovery so it's at best a wash, but they are probably a net benefit as far as fights staying scheduled.

Connective tissue can't keep up with recovery of muscles in unnatural overuse afaik. Bodybuilders on roids often tear ligaments and tendons because they can't catch up to the muscle recovery rate. I don't have cites and might be totally wrong, w/e

I'm not massively knowledgeable about this but pretty sure it's correct. Ligaments and tendons both recover and build slower than muscle, so while the PEDs allow the muscles to recover enough for repeated intense training, the connective tissue can't keep up. Also, this intense training builds the muscles much much faster than the tendons/ligaments, so a lot of extra stress is put onto this connective tissue than it would be if a less intense training regime was implemented.

However, with intense training and no PEDs, it's still possible to reach the same position, so it's tough to blame it all on PEDs.

Re: EDF MMA/lutte fil Juin 2012

Muscles can also help protect a joint from injury. Physical therapy 101 after tearing something is to build up the muscle around that area. I get that the increased workload can lead to an increase of certain types of injuries but I'm guessing the positives outweigh the negatives and it's ridiculous to blame a rash of injuries on PED's.

The cost/benefit of fighting injured or waiting to fight healthier is set up for a lot of people to pull out of fights regardless of what "supplements" they are on.

I've always maintained that there's gotta be something wrong with MMA training if so many fighters get injured during training.

Stop working so hard dudes.

Re: EDF MMA/lutte fil Juin 2012

A lot of it is the way they are training and the lack of professionalism. Dominick Cruz got hurt because someone else ran into him while he was rolling. He's going to fight for the title and they didn't give him enough space??? They need to set up separate camps away from everyone else so **** like that doesn't happen.
