My god that last round. Sergio could of coasted the last round, instead he tried to finish non stop, got caught and dropped, gets up and flys at him and keeps attacking to the end. So insane.
Great fights, with a couple of disappointing main events. Lopez was game but just couldn't cope with Canelo's power, Chavez was dominated except for that HOLY **** last round. I think if you sub in a fresh Jr with 1 minute to go, he has a very good chance of winning, he was winging his shots and actually looked to be holding on for a while.
At 154 we have Canelo, Cotto, Martinez & Mayweather. I'd be interested in seeing any of those guys fight each other. Martinez-Canelo does about 500k PPVs.
What a fun fight to watch (Martinez Chavez). I've never watches Martinez before, does e always have his hands down like that? Or was he just in super taunt/show boat mode? If that's his reg. style thats pretty bad ass. What are some of the interesting pros (against the obvious cons) of that style?
thats just his style and you'll see alot of counterpunchers who are quick use that style ,(anderson silva and sometimes machida in mma)
pro's : you can bait opponents to make mistakes , you can use your quickness to an advantage , punches come off quicker when your hands are lower and you can hit from a ton of diff angles .
disadvantages : your head is out there , you take more punishment and get ktfo , also it becomes more ineffective as you get older and lose a step ala roy jones .
problem comes when you're not faster than your opponent and lack the timing. Roy Jones is the perfect example of when it goes downhill with this style, it does so very rapidly.
Martinez, hopefully, future opponent Golovkin punished Proksa a while ago for using a Martinez like style.
I am not huge boxing fan but watch it every now and then including alvarez/lopez fight on showtime, Can someone give me a short explanation why Canelo or Martinnez aren't fighting ward, mayweather, pacquiao or each other?
Is it similar reasons to the promoters getting in the way of mayweather not fighting pacquiao?
They are all in different weightclasses except for Canelo and Mayweather (and who knows if Mayweather sticks around).
Martinez is a giant compared to Pac and Ward is a giant compared to Martinez.
Most likely is probably Canelo-Mayweather.
Second most likely out of those fights are probably Canelo-Martinez if Martinez want to go down to 154. But until Canelo actually fight someone currently elite, who knows.
Ward should not be in the run to fight either of those guys. He's closer to a light heavyweight than he is to Middle let alone welter.
