When wearing shoes the hem is supposed to just barely reach the floor or come up a bit short. Personally I'd rather deal with a bit of sock showing when sitting than have them bunch or drag on the floor.

Would be annoyed if they dragged with shoes on but in my experience most jeans will bunch rather than drag.

Would certainly go for the 34s myself, seeing anyone sitting with jeans riding up their calfs would just scream dad jeans to me.

Decided to go with 34 length because I can't stand my socks showing when I sit down. Just looks really bad imo.

Depends on the fit of the jeans. Skinnier jeans look awful all bunched up over the shoe. PROBABLY to gay and/or hipster for most people here but I like my jeans i little rolled up. Nothing much but def showing some sock when wearing low cut sneaks while sitting. For summer, maybe another roll so that sock/skin shows even while standing

And on the other hand, looser fitting jeans need to rest on the shoe, as above pic demonstrates.

I disagree. Jeans that are slim at the leg opening stack evenly. Looser fabric looks messy bunched up and begs for a hemming.

looks like if he sits down, his socks would show a little bit.

you can wear these with shorts, just no socks + make sure you tuck the laces.

just realize that the rocks in the foreground will affect the shade that your eyes see (makes the shoes look slightly more blue than they probably are).

I would go with the grey because they'd allow you to wear them with a greater range of shirts / belts / jackets.

it also depends on how dark your jeans are. generally its a good idea to have some variation in color between pants / shoes.

So my girlfriend is looking at getting me some nice dress shoes for my birthday coming up, because my current ones kinda suck. Hoping for some advice on what is good. Ideally I would like something that can be worn with suits for weddings etc, but can also be worn with dressy jeans/dress pants and shirts for a slightly more casual look.

These are two that she has sent me. Thoughts? Tips?

http://www.amazon.com/Antonio-Mauriz.../dp/B004CTGBNK
(on gilt for like $250, but not my size unfortunately)

http://www.allbest-mart.com/gucci-lo..._store=default

I would say price limit would be $200-$250, but if there were amazing shoes out there I could probably chip in money of my own

they don't seem very versatile with that heel. i'd prefer something with a darker heel that i could wear with nice jeans or khakis if i wanted.

Prada shoes at a consignment shop. Thinking I'd wear them mostly with jeans, some khakis. How much would you pay for these?

For some reason those images don't seem to be working, at least for me. Anyone know why?

You can still view by copy pasting the url though.

in my ignorant ass opinion the first one is really generic and boring looking and the second one is a gaudy monstrosity

They look like elf shoes with those super pointy toes.

Instead of the first, I'd suggest some AE Park Avenues. Perfect for weddings and funerals. But not so much with jeans.

Im looking at the AE site, as I really like their shoes, and they are in the right price range. I really do want to be able to wear them in occasions when i'm not wearing a suit, as I wear a suit <5x/year.

I'll be honest, I quite like the Boston. I also like the Provo and the Madison Ave. I do like the Park Aves alot, but dont really want to get them if they will be limited to 5x/year wear

are you talking about jeans, or khakis or wool pants?

if the latter, then

I think this

is way way way better than this:

with pants, too short > too long. I'd rather look a little eccentric than sloppy

w/ jeans different story

the vast majority of guys walk around in pants that are way too long

If you wear a smaller size, I think the Grenson Kirk is a nice, fairly fashion-forward but still wearable shoe. Not really suit appropriate, but it's leagues better than square-toed abortions.

http://www.shoenet.co.uk/p/p-Grenson-Kirk-456.aspx

The reason why I say "if you wear a smaller size" is because the toe is fairly elongated, and I think looks goofier in large sizes.

You could also look around for Paul Smith Ricard boots (or Corso). I have a brown pair that I use as my go-to for suits, but they're more than versatile enough to look great with jeans.

the one pictured above is ~$300 @ gilt, which is probably at the top of my spending range.

can anyone advise?
