If you hate them, why wear them at all?

i work with a bunch of conservative stiffs that always deride me about things i go for, like the tan lace-ups i bought for the spring. whenever they comment, i know i'm doing something right because all they wear is white ralph lauren button downs and ferragamo loafers. good look, just not for me.
I think you're better off saying "feel free to break the rules" rather than "there are no rules".

you're making good points. i hate them unless i wear them how i do. that's weird, i know.

i can see why one might say feel free to break the rules instead of how i said it. the rules depend on the situation, and then it's an issue of whether you "break" those rules.

i'm with you on this.

got these white tretorn retro tennis shoes last summer and they are still pretty cool for white running shoes. Got the ones with the green http://www.shoebuy.com/tretorn-nylit...-_-none-_-none

manque, really like the first button down, neutral on the second.

Button downs often suck if you are going to a bar/club. Some are really cool (see manques) but most guys look really boring and std.

edit: thinking of getting some loafers. debating between http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=h...num=2&ct=image or these ones http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=h...num=2&ct=image

sometimes a cool button down but also blazers over a t-shirt or a fashionable tight designer polo. I guess I do wear button downs a good amount in those spots but most of them are much more baller than the **** I normally see. love the two tone.

stinkypete,

I have the completely opposite opinion. Not a fan of polos. A nice t-shirt with a cool blazer is much better IMO.

totally depends on the club. If you are going to a hot place the polo is better, if you are going to a student club the blazer is better. My choice is more a function of the weather however...

for some reason the links arent working at all. Not what I meant to show.

I didn't get the link joke. Though to be fair, I was trying to avoid vomiting in my mouth. Since any mention of loafers makes me imagine some hideous tassled/penny loafer that 70 year old men wear.

I rock the Blazer/T-shirt combo in the fall at pretty divey bars (As if there was anything nicer than a dive here). But then again style is something that is also partly dependent on your environs.

Agreed.

No offense, but this thread is like the blind leading the blind with a few exceptions (Siglo, Caveat, Manque)

You aren't going to dress well until you are exposed to a large number of people that consistently do and will share their ideas with you. I know everyone here hates on poker analogies, but think of this thread as a typical non 2p2er poker game.. yah, a few people will occasionally make some good plays but it will generally be a bunch of donks doing donk sh**. In fact, it is probably worse because there is so little good information out there on men's fashion.

If you seriously care even a little bit, go a forum that is dedicated entirely to the cause..

I liked this shirt when I first saw it, but something about one or two of the details bugged me. For one, it uses the world's thickest MOP buttons ever, and they look a bit out of place on such a lightweight shirt. Hope you liked it.

Yeah I do. It's probably my favorite of the 5 or so new shirts I have bought this year. I love the buttons. Never thought about them being too big. I like how thick they are.

Does anyone here wear pocket squares? I think it's an inexpensive way to improve a suit or Jacket. I've bought a few for Spring/Summer

Both Linen

Cotton/Silk

Manque,

Pocket squares are ze best. I prefer simpler ones like the two on the left since that is more my style. Though may try some more brightly colored/patterned ones in the future. I'm a fan of the white ones with colored borders. Peter Millar had a full set a few seasons ago that I totally noobed and didn't get.

+1 on pocket squares.. own a couple and hope to add more. they def add a touch of class imo. the patterned ones are fine imo. the skill is matching them. they should not match the color of your shirt or jacket or tie. some people have a skill in matching with some contrast
