Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
What do you guys think of the cheaper Allen Edmonds shoes? I've found a fair amount on sale or online in the $100 - $150 range.

hard to generalize. it's not that strange to find the $325 AE on sale for $225 or from some guy for $175. otoh $150 is close to the retail price for some of the cheaper rubber soled crappy stuff they sell. just depends on the model you can't go by price alone
in the past month I've bought 2 pairs of AE
a $525 shell cordovan MacNeil (totally a classic style, awesome) worn 5ish times for $150. of course this douchebag mislabeled the size so that fell through
a $300 pair of AE Taunton Chelsea boots slightly worn 10 ish times for $40. this model is discontinued so it kind of warps the value.
these are both sweet deals imo. the minute you wear AE outside/scuff the soles they lose a ton of value, but in reality they are very close to new. this is the sweet spot for shoes imo, unless you don't care about $

Don't like the full coating think it completely ruins the purpose of buying great leather soled shoes in the first place. IMO feel like if you do the full leather coating you might as well just go buy some clunky Cole Haans. I put plastic tips on the toes and have the heelpiece replaced at a local shoe place for like $15. But I want leather on the majority of the sole. As long as I do this the leather doesn't develop holes to need a resoling for a long time.

well, disagree. there is a big aesthetic difference between a clunky rubber sole and a leather sole with a thin well done topy on it. from most angles a leather sole and a leather sole w/ topy look the same. and if you are doing any significant amount of winter walking in snow/ice, the topy has big functional advantages.
I guess I understand why you would disagree, but to me it's close enough that the 'advantages' of leather don't come close to justifying the need to resole that much
if you don't walk much or live in a warm climate, I think the argument for non topy is much better. but I walk 25 minutes a day or so in a northern climate, so a pure leather sole doesn't make a whole lot of sense for me
also, I'm a 215lb guy who wears out leather soles fast...different story if you're a 140 pound asian guy

Agree it is a huge difference than clunky rubber sole, more a stupid thing of principal for me.
Might have to try a topy on one of my cheaper pairs sometime, but I normally just have the rubber booties I pull over my shoes when weather is poor.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
Anyone else discover Bonobos Pants? I did a few months ago, and I think they're fabulous. Great selection of basics, plus some pretty out there colors and fabrics too. Plus free shipping, and no questions asked returns and exchanges.
PM me if you want a referral that'll save you $30 (and net me some credit).
And if you're seeking some EV.... participate in their Superbowl Pick'em. Pick your team and send them $20. If your team looses...you get $20 in credit. If your team wins...you get a pair of The Sierras, sandstone washed khaki, a $88 value.
I've got 3 pairs now, The Ganache is my favorite.

Love 'em.
Their return policy is so relaxed (any pants, for any reason, any time), why not give them a shot?

Thoughts? Never gotten anything at Jos. A Bank before. I want a Duffle Coat (preferably navy) and am having a ton of trouble finding one I like.
Also, not 100% sure what size to get. I'm a 44. At the store they told me the M was made for someone who was a 40-42 and the L was 44-46. They only had a S on hand and I could actually get it on and it almost fit in the shoulders and the sleeves were basically the right length. Never really worn a medium in anything before but seems like that would be ideal in this case (and fit the whole SF get your peacoat a size smaller than you normally wear rule)

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
Looking to buy some dress shirts, and was going to go with Brooks Brothers, but came across Charles Tyrwhitt shirts which some people suggested are better than Brooks Brothers and are also cheaper, just wondering if anyone has an opinion on them?
Also, are Banana Republic dress shirts terrible in general or bad quality for the price they sell at?

Has anyone been to this? I saw it the other day off the freeway, but didn't know if its worth it. Is it good stuff, or like, excess stuff in bad sizes, etc
