SS, jeans look way too long.

SS,

In general, good fit is about flattering or interesting proportions that emphasize the good things about your body type while de-emphasizing the bad ones.

The shirt is pretty slim through the body, but in comparison your sleeves look a little baggy. The shirt is hemmed to the proper length to wear casually untucked, but your jeans are so long and they're practically pooling at your heels, which makes your legs look super long and crops your torso making it look too short. Not only that, the jeans are too baggy through the leg, especially below the knee. Oddly enough, baggy jeans tend to make legs look wimpy, especially when they flare below the knee.

If you're going to wear bootcut jeans, make sure they're hemmed to the correct length (which is near your heel and not dragging on the floor). I dislike the look of faded/worn jeans with dark, dressy shirts. The shirt requires darker, dressier denim that doesn't have that faded wash. And you may want to slim up the jeans fit through the legs.

Jeans are way too baggy below the knee and it looks like they are 5cm too long.
It just looks odd with those jeans combined with those shoes when that baggy. You should be wearing some skater Vans shoes or something.

button down collar = yuck.

but other than that, the most important thing about the shirts is how they fit.. and it's kinda hard to tell when they're hanging from hangers.

Its a casual linen shirt. Button down collars are typically yuck, but in this case its fine.

Button downs give such a nice collar roll.

Manque, I really like that yellow shirt. Were did you get it? Also, it looks like you have an impressive wardrobe and are knowledgeable about clothing and shoes. You should post in here more often.

No. Virtually all hard and fast rules are terrible. Though Manque whiffs what a button down collar is good for and I feel like I'm posting in SE and GREEAR immediately agrees with me.

Thanks. I got it at shopthefinest.com. Just know that you will need get the sleeves altered.

I tend not to post much because I don't think much of what I'm interested in clothes-wise appeals to most people here (and vice-versa). But hey some people liked the shirts and shoe so maybe I'm wrong.

I think button down collars are good when you're trying to look more casual. If you aren't wearing flip flops, don't think about a button down collar.

Your way of applying button down collars is weird. Collar roll wtf?

I own a ton of button-down collared shirts. Saying they suck is like saying you don't like spread collar shirts, or french cuff shirts. They're so standard that it's impossible for them to universally suck.

I think your definiton of casual is too narrow. In the photo I'm wearing a linen jacket and a knit tie, which has to be one of the most informal jacket and tie combinations. IMO it is more likely to look silly with anything other than a soft collar. Being that the button down is a soft collar, I think it's appropriate. If you hate the look of button downs with jackets that's fine, but I think it has to be for a reason other than the shirts are too casual.

I'm going to make an appointment with Geneva in NY to have some custom shirts made. If anyone has ever had custom shirts made, any advice about what to expect, what to ask for would be appreciated.

Have an idea how many shirts and some basic things (i.e. one dressy white, three patterned blue, etc) beforehand. Otherwise you'll get lost going through swatches. If you have what seems like a ******ed question, go ahead and ask. If you want something specific, go ahead and ask.

Thanks. I'm planning on having them make 4 shirts. 2 White, 2 blue. One of the white ones with french cuffs. No fancy material, just broadcloth. If all goes well I hope to slowly replace all my dress shirts with bespoke.
