khakis are completely fine, you just want to make sure they fit. lots of popular brands like Dockers are sized for the lowest common denominator (fat people) so they hang off of you and make you look like you are wearing your older brothers clothes

I love my Bonobos as a Docker replacement. Fit great and they many styles. PM me your email address for a referral that'll get you $50 off your first order (and net me some credit too). I think I'm up to 5 pairs now.

And while I'm posting...any suggestions on where I can pick up some wool ties? I tried a few places (Macy's, Banana Republic, and H&M), but have come up empty so far.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what to look for in a relatively cheap suit? I have a wedding at the end of the month and need to get a new suit for it, and I don't really want to spend more than 2-300 bucks on it all told, including tailoring. Less is obviously better. I rarely wear a suit, a few times a year at the most. Anywhere to look other than the obvious department stores or men's stores like Men's Warehouse or Jos A Bank? Is it worth checking out any of the discount retailers that carry suits, or will it just be a waste of time? The only other suit I've owned was a nice Hickey Freeman suit, but after seven years and an unfortunate trip through the regular washing machine it's met its match, and I can't really afford to spend that much again atm. I'm a big guy too, so none of the slimmer fits will work at all.

if you know your size and are ok with used, ebay. its amazing the stuff you find there, also amazing is the deprecation even nice stuff takes after it's been worn once

I'd much rather spend $200 on a Brooks Brothers suit worn once than a new Mens Wearhouse suit

any recommendations on mens dress socks? Usually end up with gold toes because I like the height of them. Usually just black\blue and a few grey argyles when I'm feeling it.

Standard. You can use dress socks as more garish pieces if you so desire. But there is virtually nothing wrong with just being normal with your socks.

Note: Wearing loud socks in addition to loud everything else just makes you look like a clown. Pick and choose.

I basically am down to one sock - 15 pairs of dark blue gold toe's. I have some black for when I wear black shoes, which isn't much.

Do you order them by phone? Which ones do you like?

I've only dropped by Uniqlo twice: once in NYC, once in London. Each time I stocked up big time. Just the standard ones they have piled up along the wall -- particularly the heathered/marled fabric ones.

These are nice and will probably order a pair. Quesiton: anyone who's worn these - any difficulty getting into certain bars/clubs? I have a feeling some bouncers will mistake these for timberlands/boots and not let you in even though they are nice shoes

Nobody is going to mistake those for hiking boots, but it's not like they're dressy or anything. What kind of club checks your footwear anyway?

Really liking those shoes. The problem is, I don't know if they look good with skinny jeans, which is all I wear. Any suggestions for nice shoes to go with black/dark blue skinners?

Skinny jeans and desert boots is (at least, was) the Style Forum uniform.

I am willing to bet that even in NY, the clubs don't have a no-desert boot policy.

I have definitely been to several hard to get into places with nice dark calfskin desert boots.

What are the rules for colored undershirts?

I wore a blue polo with a green undershirt and my female friend told me this was a no-no. I had no clue. Whats the deal EDF?

The rule is that once you are over the age of 18, you shouldn't show an undershirt.

That being said, LOL about a green undershirt with a blue polo.
