If I am a size 8E in AE Delray (8 last) and want to cop a pair of the PA in black, what is the closest conversion for the 0 Last of the PA? I ask because 8E is unavailable, but 7.5EEE, 8.0EEE and 8.5E are available.

hard to say with definity, but I would go with 7.5 EEE

the 0 last runs long and narrow

true i wear alot of charcoal/gray/black which i was always wearing black shoes with but once i get my walnut PA's i'm going all brown with the gray.. the charcoal? i'm not so sure about wearing brown with it just seems like a very, very dark color much darker than the PA walnut... what do you think? anything except black = brown PA?

AE makes belts

I almost exclusively wear 3 styles of gray pants to work. ( light gray, medium/heather gray, darker charcoal ). I've just been wearing a cheap pair of black cap-toes with them.

With the dark charcoal, the black shoes are a must IMO.

For the other 2 though, I'm having a hard time deciding on an appropriate brown color. Should I go with something dark brown, or more of a walnut color? Burgundy seems to fit navy better.

Does anyone else hate khaki-colored pants for work?

Also,

Best alternative to Allen Edmonds for quality shoes that aren't too expensive? I know Alden is the most common, but they never go on sale like the AE's.

I wonder if I could find a way to make them more comfortable.

for shoe quality, that is basically an inverted pyramid from Allen Edmonds on up.

you basically have them and the lower lines of British shoes like Loake 1880 or Grenson Rushden. perhaps Martegani. look at pediwear for these British shoes.

then more expensive you have Alden, Grenson Rose, Crockett and Jones benchgrade.

then higher than that you have other brands

Ya, the big problem with this is that I can't easily try on those brands for size.

Maybe I'll try some kind of padded/orthotic inserts in the shoes to see if it helps.

Bah, shipping / duties makes this sale not so good for Canadians. Worked out to $350 after the smoke cleared, so I didn't buy them.

I know that most of you are AE fanatics and hate shoes like this, but for $69 are these that bad for going out/casual?

If your alternative is going barefoot and you're walking across fields of broken glass, sure.

But really, those have just about every heinous feature I can imagine. Maybe some really tasteless cheap broguing would be the final piece.

IMO black and loafers never mix.

I guess I'm repeating myself, but burgundy shell cordovan goes with absolutely everything, from cream to khakis to jeans to light grey to charcoal. if you want variety, ok, but I don't think any other color is a must at all except for black shoes in the most formal of occasion

here are a pair of I am wearing today with light pants. if anything, this is a stretch and are ideal with jeans and charcoal

Those are nice - I like that the brogueing is on the sides but not the toe.

i have a pair of black bruno magli slipons that i wear both with dark jeans for going out and with dressier clothing

they replaced a pair of black allen edmund slipons which i wore heavily before thinking i lost them (since been found thankfully)

shoes, belts and jeans are things i habitually only keep one or two until i randomly buy something else

but i guess a lot of that is a function of traveling a lot

A shoe doesn't become less ugly because it is cheap.

For instance this is a very expensive shoe

Would you wear it if it only cost $60?

Shoes colour with grey trousers. Because I'm a dork about such stuff, I thought I'd line up a bunch of different shoes against a pair of charcoal flannels.

L to R. Tan, chestnut, 3 different shades of brown, a reddish brown, chocolate suade, dark brown, black.

I picked up my first pair of AE's last week (thrifted off eBay, w00t)--burgundy shell cordovan MacNeils (exactly like what Kneel B4 Zod posted above). Wow, you guys weren't lying. They are SO much nicer than anything else I've ever had, it's not funny. I don't want to wear any of my other shoes now.

I just picked up a pair of AE Strand's in 9.5D if anyone is interested. (Brand new, firsts).

I realized that I really need a 9E. (The shoes run a bit narrow and I thought I could fit into the slightly longer length since I'm a 9.5-10 in most other shoes).

They also have shoe-trees.

$220 shipped in the CONUSA if anyone is interested.
