It's the contrast between the polished look of the shoe and the rest of the outfit that never seems to work quite right. It only looks good after the shoes are old and broken in. On the other hand, I bought some Fiorentini and Baker oxfords that have a matte black finish and they are perfect for jeans. N.D.C. also makes casual looking dress shoes that work great with jeans right out of the box. This is an example of a less shiny dress shoe like I'm talking about : http://www.ssense.com/men/product/nd...ze_shoes/15737
If I find the time later, I might take some pics of my F&Bs.

I ended up not getting them. I agree with you and wasn't sold that they'd be casual enough for what I want. I need to think about it some more.
Went to NY. It was friggin' freezing and rained all day sunday. Oh well. Ended up getting five shirts from Geneva. Four of them are check and one is solid. Three of the shirts are 15% cashmere for extra warmth.
Got 2 pairs of moleskins at Paul Stuart. Dark blue and olive. These babies are incredibly warm. Definitely for cold days. I also picked up 2 pairs of gloves. Btw, if you ever do shop at Paul Stuart and you like tall, beautiful, Hungarian women, ask for Agnes and be prepared to spend more than you meant to.
I also picked up a scarf at Barneys. They really have a great selection, worth checking out.
Gloves. Left - brown suade, shearling lining. Right - black lambskin, cashmere lining
Scarf. Grey, chalkstriped. Cashmere.
Umbrella. Whangee Cane.

Thremp - They only have a 42 left, but Krane anorak is on sale at Context. Not sure what your budget is or what you're looking for...also final sale sucks. But it looks like an incredible piece.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
Cardshark- I've posted a couple of kinds of boots in this thread that I bought in that price range. The Paul Smith Ricards and Rachel Comey rugger boots. Those are both examples of really amazing boots that are in a different league than those Ralph Laurens. Also, the pic of me in the Flathead jeans with the oxblood boots a few pages back. Those are Filippa K and I got them for around $225 shipped from Gilt. They're incredible. If I'm spending that much money on shoes, I'm going to keep an eye out for something that I fall in love with. Don't settle.
For the style you're looking for, maybe Alden Indy's might be the best bet. Gorgeous shoes. Compare these at $350 to the RLs at $250 and the extra hundy is a no-brainer.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
Could someone helpo me out a bit here.
I'm on a students budget, trying to step up my game a bit lately. As far as sports jackets go I can't afford to be paying $600-$1000 for them. So I'm thinking a 2nd hand store + some tailoring could be a way to go for SJ's for now.
I need to know some brands that I should be keeping an eye out for though. Coppley, Zegna, Canali, Hugo, Burberry. Any other names?

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
If you're on a student budget there's been a bunch of places named. J-Crew, H&M, Macy's are a few.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
I've tried sportsjackets from the ones I mentioned, and from some of the places you mentioned. And think I'de prefer the former. Atleast can't hurt to take a look around, and see what kind of shape they're in. Any higher quality brand recomendations to look for?

Sly,
appreciate all the links and suggestions in here. I see you link to many sites I have never heard of, would you be able to compile a list of sites you frequent so I may browse them and order some things also?

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
nevermind. I went to a couple to look, and 95% of them looked pretty worn, and the other 5% didn't fit right or looked horrible. Suprise.

Just go to Styleforum and click on the banner ads at the top. There may be a thread on the site too dedicated to linking them. Stels, Matches, Ssense, Opening Ceremony, Odin, and South Willard are a few not on SF.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
Sly,
Thanks, but I need something that actually provides warmth. And pref is windproof. Quite primer... everything windproof is waterproof. Water resistant is like the equivalent of hitting something with scotchgard, not the same thing. lol outdooraments. Mostly since, if I feel like going to do some sort of outdoor sport, I don't want to have to purchase another coat. Though I have a softshell that would work quite nicely if it was 20 degrees warmer.
Most of the ones I've spotted are filled with down or some synthetic down, the only issue I have with these is that any color other than black quickly leads to me just imagining I'm going to be wearing a starter bubble jacket and the option of freezing to death seems like a pleasant alternative to 5 months in a bubble jacket in public.

North Face is pretty h0m0. I know. But whatever. I want some with a clean simple look, that doesn't remind me of:
<edit: hotlinking noob> http://www.topstreetwear.com/data/pr...4856680208.jpg
While still actually being warm. I have considered the option of wearing one of those Himalayan onesies. And the only real thing holding me back is cost, if I found one. I would wear it. But only in the yellow.
My search is going quite poorly because I get distracted by asinine digressions like this:
http://www.mountainhardwear.com/Prod...&viewAll=False
Why am I looking at this? Is it really cold enough? Would I ever pay this much for this item for what I'd use it for? Would I wear it? Would it preclude me from having sex if I had it on under my regular clothing (preclude as in someone would see me with this on and leave while I was undressing cause I'd be a h0m0). Etc etc.
That last part is just epic rage/tilt/qq. Whatever. I'm doing a terribad job at this. The weather for the next 5 days here includes a stunning high of -8C and a low windchill of -26C, for coldness reference.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
Anyone have any brown shoe recommendations for wearing mostly with jeans. I would normally wear brown boots, boot cut jeans but feel I need some new shoes. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Anything up to or around $150.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
Also I know the Gilt PSA was made but the hickey sale today is really good. Other than the good-but-not-great Trovata sale recently I haven't been that pumped about any of their sales for a while now.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread
Its lol cold. I had the pleasure of having both my hands go numb enough I couldn't tell if I was pressing the button on the electronic key down except by seeing the light (I realized there was a light after pressing all over it and seeing something light up).
Regardless, there are stores that sell stuff, but I can't bring myself to peruse through them like some sort of freak. Not to mention I really like the mountain hardware softshell I have currently.
Fyte,
The first are hyachahchachahchahchahcah bubble jackets, which make me rage. But I may have to get over it, since I'm unsure freezing to death is an option unless they have an NFL team on them. The final one isn't really a cold weather jacket. I actually have a very similar jacket that works really well in subtropical/rainy climates (like the one I came from). I'd recommend everyone have a waterproof softshell if they intend to live in climates like that.
