For work-related clothes, I think I can manage fine. It's pretty easy to just come up with some solid colored shirts and a few pairs of pants (black/charcoal/khaki/etc). I don't have to wear a tie to work, so it's not hard to keep it simple.

I struggle a lot more for going-out type clothes. I'm usually at regular bars, so I don't care so much for "club wear". However, I would like a few nicer outfits for dinners at nice restaurants and lounges/martini-type nights. I feel like those nicer outfits end up overlapping a lot with work clothes though. Am I wrong?

I gotta say that this Gilt Groupe sale on 7s seems pretty good. 99/pair of jeans is quite good - around the best prices I see on sales in B&M stores. I think I'm going to pass on buying anything just because I'm lazy, but yeah, looks good. Return policy, fwiw:

Quote:
Gilt Groupe accepts returns on apparel and footwear for store credit only. Gilt Groupe must receive the merchandise within 14 days from the date of purchase. Items must be unused, unworn, unwashed and undamaged. In order to facilitate the credit process, please return items in their original packaging, including: hangers, polybags, hang tags on garments, shoe boxes, dust bags, eye glass cases and gift boxes.
z28,

While bar/lounge/restaurant can overlap in type of clothes: shirt/pants/sportcoat type stuff being the norms, a lot of people make their distinction by going more "adventurous" with either the fit, the colors, the materials, or the patterns. Depending on the workplace and your personal aesthetic a lot of this might not hold for you, but a lot of people wear slimmer, more eye catching shirts and such.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread

I'm kind of confused about shoes. I have bought some shoes that I think look good with jeans but don't know what looks good with shorts. I used to rock the New Balance 574 but want to upgrade to something nicer. I'm looking to spend around $100 and want something that is sport/casual. Or should I just be rocking some chucks and/or adidas stan smiths?

Thanks for any help.

All the options you mentioned are standard. Please wear ankle socks or no socks if you wear them with shorts, though.

You could try to do the boat shoes thing as well. They are popular now.

I like perforated leather for hotter weather. I think Stan Smiths, Rod Lavers, etc. all come in perfed leather, as well as some less well-known Nikes.

Or you could step up and buy some Common Projects sneakers.

Thanks! Looks like some good stuff on there this week, although I need to slow down. I tend to buy more stuff than I need.

Milo, or anyone- I just bought some killer white Stan Smith 2 perforated leathers in 9.5 that don't fit. PM me if you're interested. You can't find them anymore online, which sucks. They are brand new in the box.

wow. unbelievably crappy site. everything sells out the minute it opens and the website can't handle the traffic so everything is slow as balls or doesn't work at all. highly not recommended.

yeah i'm pretty sad. kors shirts are some of my favorite and i was looking forward to cashing in. for about 30 seconds the site was working flawlessly, now nothing loads =( hopefully there will be something left when traffic dies down a bit. it's understandable that things sell out quickly, though.

I didn't go there today, but I haven't had a problem with the site going down or anything before. I think they got a writeup in Forbes recently, or something. They may be getting more traffic than they can handle lately.

Re: EDF Fashion (and Fashion Deals) Thread

Gilt got slammed the past few days because they had some Tori Burch sale or some ****... I don't know, I guess it's some awesome popular womens brand.

The trick is to get on at 9AM Eastern, filter by size, and add everything you might be remotely interested in into your cart. It'll save that item for 10 minutes in your cart before it releases it for someone else to buy. Also, try waitlisting items you want.

I recently update my wardrobe with 2 pullover shirts and two pairs of cords by John Varvatos. Expensive, but I don't think anyone makes cooler, "casually nice" clothes for males over 35.

What kind of shoes am I supposed to wear with boot-cut jeans? I feel like I don't see a lot of good-looking boots, and don't like how they look with sandals. I'm 22 at UCLA fwiw.

Really? I see so many boots I want that I have to remind myself that I don't need any more.

How big is the boot cut? Some boot cuts are subtle enough to work with any shoes you would wear with normal jeans. My 5EPs are just a slight boot cut and they are extremely versatile. I really like the Clark's Touareg in brown. They look a lot better in person. FYI they run a half size big (If you're a 10, get a 9.5.)

If the opening is wide enough to not look good with normal shoes then you might want to consider getting some different jeans (unless you love them otherwise for some reason.)
